Description:
This is a collaboration with Birdman Wayne (Yemen). He contributed some fantastic acoustic guitar work - with his trademark flamenco-flavored inflections, and meditative-atmospheric style. This selection is a mix of eastern and western modalities, major and minor- acoustic guitar, piano, and violin - with sparse evocative instrumentation. a mood piece, the meeting of two worlds, alternating moments of strong dissonance and vertical resolution, with undercurrent of blue and grey hues.

Been awhile... &mdash 12/13/07 - 10:35:59 PM
...since I've heard from you, dj...

This is a powerful return statement. Yeman sounds great and you've melded the sounds together very effectively and with lots of emotion.

Kudos. And welcome back.

you two can pull this off &mdash 12/14/07 - 07:28:50 AM
Good to see you two back... quite an evocative work. The orchestration of this theme is superb, as it tries to shine through some garish dissonance-clashes. That, along with the super guitar work of Yeman, really felt sad, touching, ominous, with a touch of hope at the end.

So, the instruments sounded real, did you have this performed live, or just do amazing things with samples? You didn't mention in the description.

So very good to see this, I remember you two discussing working on it. It turned out beautifully.

ttfn,
Drakonis

man, thank you for writing the nice words - and the nice welcome back. I created the instrumental bed- with piano and violin recorded live -- the woodwinds and orchestral strings are synthesized. Yeman then worked with this arrangement, adding his live guitar.

Meditation in music &mdash 12/25/07 - 11:04:49 AM
There is some superb music making going on here. Not in the 100 notes per second sense, but in the sense of heartfelt playing. The guitar is beautiful, and you do an excellent job of playing the piano and violin and making the whole mix work. The piece has a long arc that builds up the intensity, and the comes down again. I like how all the instruments contribute to that arc. Very well arranged.

Thanks Everyone .. &mdash 12/27/07 - 11:31:50 AM
Jose, i was really surprised to see this version uploaded and happy to see how the guitar melted nicely in the mix.

Your music composition in this is in the 1st class and the most thing i really liked it in this piece is the instruments, that they are real ones. Your music is so full of feelings and deep Jose, that it was hard for me to play over it in my limited skills .. I'm sorry if it wasn't good enough but i just had that feeling to play this in a moment. Loved the work here and I'm so proud to be worked with you .. You're a great musician and friend. Thanks so much for offering me the chance to play here .. Keep up your great work and wish to do more with you in the future. And thanks from me to all who commented ..

Take Care Buddy,
- Yeman A. Al-Rawi

So sorry I missed this when it was posted &mdash 12/29/07 - 10:12:03 PM
I turned off my email alerts when I took a break, and so....

This is really, really fine; very sensitive playing with a surprisingly big, muscular sound in the middle section. And Yemen's playing , especially at the opening, is exquisite.
Great collab, and thank you for posting this.

Moving and beautiful... &mdash 01/05/08 - 07:57:06 AM
Very well written and performed, and you did well blended in Yemen's guitar part, which is excellent also. This has a haunting feel to it... yet not exactly sad. Really very well done.

oooowwww &mdash 04/11/08 - 08:37:11 PM
this cuts my heart to pieces - my favorite way to go.
that raw violin - slashes me to bits.
piano is none too shabby, neither!
the guitar shines.
grand build at conclusion.
that ending measure did one helluva job of straddling resolution.
gentlemen, i bow.
respectfully,
anne

I don't &mdash 06/07/08 - 11:26:48 AM
know how I missed this wonderful piece, but I'm pleased I finally caught up with it thanks to Yeman's comment in the Forum. There's not a lot I can say that hasn't been said except that it's a wonderfully emotional piece, sympathetically played, by both yourself and Yeman, regards M

this is an excellent piece &mdash 06/07/08 - 02:12:01 PM
The guitars are so beautiful and the piece is very well written. I could definitely hear this in a film, albeit a rather sad one.
Excellence.

Thanks Yemen,

Dave

Thank you for the beautiful kind words my friend. I appreciate your visit and again I thank you for bringing the idea of "Regrets" in a forum. Jose deserve a lot of respect for his work and for letting me join with my guitar in this piece. I might have another take in the near future on this piece after my improved skills... we'll see!

Take Care
