Description:
This song was basically a dare :)

I was paired up with an 'unlikely collaborator' and invited to work on a song.
And since I was up to the challenge....

...You get to hear something a little different :)

Tons of thanks goes to Jay "Ignoramus" (http://www.icompositions.com/artists/Ignoramus) for laying out the blistering instrumental track and doing all the production and final mix.

I came up with some lyrics and did a lot of singing :)

This was a fun departure, and great challenge for me.
(Thanks again, Jay!)

Lyrics:
Erase your sins--Reclaim the Past
And douse the flames of sorrow.
Time was your enemy, but now a friend
A twist of fate--something you'll borrow

(You'll) Travel in time to salvage the future
Gazing deep into the hour glass
And each grain of sand, it holds an eternity
But what will you be tomorrow?

Echoes bring a strange kind of solace
Things you had and want once more
Your memories...themes of tomorrow
If you can find your way back home

(So) Travel in time to salvage the future
Shattering the hour glass
And each grain of sand, it holds an eternity
But where will you be tomorrow?

Time Traveller....travel in time...reclaim the past
Time Traveller, etc.

You've travelled in time to salvage the future
Shattering the hour glass
And each grain of sand it holds your eternity
But how can you see tomorrow?

Half-expected Tina Carrere to start singing at the beginning. ^_^

Really sharp enunciation on the lyrics. One of the crispest sounds you've had this far.

A welcome beat after the first two verses really changes this one up to something less etheral... but that hot rock beat in the middle... SLAMMIN'!

Silly as this sounds, I was playing a racing game as I listened to this-- fit pretty well there. Better than the soundrack of game, that's for sure.

Rock Opera, Mystified is here.

This is a very accomplished rock track...you seem very comfortable with this style (is there no style you cannot master??)

Cheers

Finally- the debut of Metal Mysti! I've been waiting for you to try this for almost three years!

Way to keep them all guessing.... what could be next? Polka Mysti? :o)

Great track!

Hearing you &mdash 12/16/07 - 08:56:43 AM
do a more 'normal' sounding song gives me a chance to compare your voice and you are definitely head and shoulders above the 'normal'.
This is very, very well done in all aspects and an extremely enjoyable listen.
Can't help but think that this would fit amazingly well above a particularly poignant Walt Disney scene. I mean that in in very complimentary way, they always pick amazing songs.
Cheers
Len

Mysti - Play the Movie for me... &mdash 12/16/07 - 10:35:00 AM
I swear I saw the movie trailer for this recently :-) The music, lyrics and singing sound like they're right out of a thriller time-travel movie.

In some ways this is "very different", but in others, you have "Mystified" it and it sounds rather characteristically yours now. Good musical track & guitar-work, and a lot of careful crafting by you to create evocative lyrics and very nice singing and harmonizing throughout. The coupling of ethereal singing with crunchy metal guitar-work reminds me a bit of Evanescence (e.g. "Bring Me To Life".)

Great work here!

Nice work here &mdash 12/16/07 - 12:40:52 PM
The build-up is lovely and so is the smooth finish. It's a delicious song anyway but it's the combination of extremes that really brings it into its own ... with the shredding guitars and ethereal voice weaving in and out of each other.

Let's hear it for unlikely collaborations! :)

... about the dreams and the wishing well... deep.

liked the slow build up. Actually you sounded very comfortable singing on this. really liked the backing vocals as well. Really brought a drifting quality of floating through time. nice!

Very nice collaboration &mdash 12/16/07 - 07:43:22 PM
The contrast between your vocal and the guitar-driven instrumentation works really well. Kudos to your collab partner - it is a great track. And nicely done on the vocal. Goes to show you what can happen when two talented individuals (whichever style they come from!) get together with open minds! Very nice work. Peace.

Really enjoyed ... &mdash 12/17/07 - 03:04:29 AM
... hearing you sing words and a regular melody Mysti. I also enjoy the ethereal stuff, but this is a little more special to me. Nice beats too. Good bed.

From separate stylistic threads &mdash 12/22/07 - 11:08:51 PM
you've woven something wonderful and new. Do I drift and swirl with the vocals or stomp with the backing instrumentals - well, this somehow magically brings up both responses. Very cool Mysti. Thanks for sharing!
All the best,
Doug

It's ethereal and yet it also has energy. A unique combination. The music move fluidly throughout the whole song and accentuates you vocal without overpowering it. An excellent mix. Outstanding vocal and lyrics Cat and all together a very enjoyable listen. Bravo to you and you collaborator.

Epic movements &mdash 04/24/08 - 01:36:52 PM
I love how this track moves from very airy ambient ethereal soundscapes to driving rock and comes back but with the rock edge. The vocals are entrancing. Thanks for sharing this.

Nice collaboration &mdash 07/21/08 - 09:39:14 PM
For a pair who hasn't worked together before, this collaboration marks an excellent entrance, the ethereal voice a nice counterpoint to the sizzling instrumentals. More to come?
