Relationships (24)Drowning (7)Water (50)Diving (1) ()
Description:
This is one that's been brewing for a while and has undergone several major revisions. The chorus was written long before the rest and my original idea was for it to be much more pop with a much harder edge, but, as often happens, the tune had its own idea of where it wanted to go. A little of the edge is still there in parts, but nothing like it was.

I've been anxious to get this one done, so I finally got my cold under wraps enough to record the vocals and, actually, I think it helped me, especially on the harmony, because I had to really rethink those parts because I couldn't hit the notes I wanted.

Enjoy.

Lyrics:
The Deep End

©2007 Joseph Gurner

She takes her time again
As she walks across the room
knowing my eyes
are on her

She smiles and talks to him
looking back at me
hoping that I will
sit and slowly burn

You come and go in this world
holding on to your dream
Every smile takes you down
tears cuts you like a scream

You jump into the water
and try to swim away
but the undertow catches you
and you have to stay

in the deep end
(All this time we try to swim away)

in the deep end
(All this time we try to swim away)

She takes her time again
As she climbs into our bed
Waiting for my hands
to touch her skin

She smiles as she whispers
and we breathe the same breath
She knows I
slowly burn for her

You come and go in this wworld
with nothing but your dreams
Every kiss takes you higher
Every touch is like a dream

You jump into the water
and try to swim away
but the undertow catches you
and you have to stay

in the deep end
(All this time we try to swim away)

in the deep end
(All this time we try to swim away)

Think of all the days
you drown me in your eyes
Think of all the nights
We roll up in our lies

We tell each other
Love is just taht way
We love in the dark
And hate in the day

You jump into the water
and try to swim away
but the undertow catches you
and you have to stay

in the deep end
(All this time we try to swim away)

in the deep end
(All this time we try to swim away)

She takes her time again
as she walks away from me
‘knowing I’ll be here
when she comes home

Joseph, this really shows that you really worked on hard on this song.

Flows along very nicely. Composition and vocals are so well thought out.

Lyrics really tell a story.

What a beautiful song Joseph &mdash 12/17/07 - 10:20:14 PM
It's full of depth and meaning and anyone can relate to it. I like the way the song builds and then drops away on the ending verse. You music couldn't fit the song any better, it's perfection.

Very well done my friend, thank you for sharing.

Ed

Nice one Joe! &mdash 12/18/07 - 03:54:26 AM
Like the build, and especially like the Brian Wilson touch at the start of each verse. Lovely harmonies, and a rich full sound.
Have a happy holiday season and a brilliant 2008 my friend!
Best wishes from Oz,
Neil

melody and performance. You have a great voice; very clear and I like the way you've done this with the double track and harmonies. Good build up too. Nice guitar too and rhythm, regards M

Vulnerability &mdash 12/18/07 - 10:17:21 PM
This is not a one listen tune. The lyrics really give off a lot of emotion of mixed feelings, knowing your vulnerable and at the mercy of your love for someone.
A difficult thing to manage, for if you broadcast your fear, your afraid you might lose her. Some of this you sense this is insecurity, but at the same time you can feel that she know she's got you in the bag.

Well you got no choice. You got to live your life and if she moves on, well, thats life eh? Some consolation, geesh.

Like your singing a lot. very expressive. Good tune too.
