Description:
After my last one. I thought I'd try for roughness!

Lyrics:
Well I'd tell you where I'm goin'
if I knew where I was goin'
Ain't a lot to be said.

Got a feelin' I'll be dead

Well I work all day
pay your service charges
I know I can't move ahead

Comfort in the fact I'll be dead

What I said to you
is real hard to take back
Hit the wall with my head

Well it won't be long, I'll be dead

Hardware:
Fender acoustic, mics and me

Well this &mdash 12/18/07 - 04:47:05 AM
is a very heartfelt song Doug and I like the understatement within it.
Cheers

Thanks for swingin' by Len! &mdash 12/18/07 - 01:01:30 PM
Yeah, this one's understated. But part of the charm, I think, is the final Word. There's a realization of the fleeting "inconvenience" of financial and interpersonal issues!

As if to say, "Ha!" to any negative issue that may occur...

Live On!

rough-n-ready &mdash 12/18/07 - 09:48:11 AM
Brings me back to some good old-time blues recordings... although your great vox need to be more up-front on this, you sang them blues reaaaal nice. The music for the line "Got a feelin I'll be dead" is interesting and a little quirky, unexpected meter, which is a good thing. The background recording hiss in this case just made it sound like an old 1950's recording :-)

Your comments are much appreciated. Yeah, I was looking for low tech, here. I also sang quietly. My daughter was trying to sleep down the hall. I felt I needed to record at that moment. I did the best I could!

I enjoyed vocally stretching across the underlying rhythms. FUN!

Thanks,
Doug

Thanks,

Great feeling &mdash 12/20/07 - 10:28:44 PM
to this one. I like the low-fi approach, but i would like to hear your voice a little more forward in the mix. I see you had good reason to sing quietly, though! I like this a lot. It sounds like it could have come from any time. Nice sentiment and groove. Cool. Peace.

Thanks for swingin' by.

Another difference here is it's a one take recording, no dubs. Just two mics, me and one cut.

It was good time!

way cool &mdash 12/22/07 - 10:56:56 AM
What an honest and near recording. I can dig this. You have an incredably cool voice. The rough sounding recording adds to the mood, and the way you treat that geetar is just right for such a piece of music.

You have a new fan:)

Great blues &mdash 12/22/07 - 12:42:46 PM
Doug this has a nice stripped-down lo-fi feel to it. Personally I like the vocals where they are in the mix. Your fender acoustic is sounding nice! This song is all about the feel. Reminds me of a local Portland swamp punk blues outfit called Hillstomp. Well done on this tune Doug.

Wow! &mdash 12/26/07 - 09:28:38 AM
Thanks for stopping!

This one had to be raw, by nature. If I sat on it too long, I'd be tempted to clean it up some...

Rough and raw is definitely blues &mdash 02/05/08 - 12:51:04 AM
and sounded great! I never really got what the deal is with high-production blues. You've got a great sound happening and without sounding like you're knocking off Robert Johnson. Seems like it got really fashionable to do that and the only one who really could has been dead for quite a long time! Anyway, great blues vibe and thanks!

you have an Elvis kind of sound with your soulful, almost whisper sound. Like the blues old time radio type sound as well.
Hope all goes well for you and that the lyrics are not as real in your personal life as it sounds on the player. But never the less, enjoyed listening and happy birthday when it comes around.

Thanks Bill &mdash 02/21/08 - 09:17:23 AM
It's great hearing from you! You were one of the first MacJammers to encourage my music all those years ago.

The lyrics are an exaggeration. But base on reality. It's more of an obscure version of "Don't worry, be happy" than despair. If that makes any sense. I try not to be dark... it just comes out that way.

Blues are fun. One thing about this tune is I played and sang in one take.

Although I tend to do this more in the living room, it was interesting trying it while recording.

Peace,
Doug

I could do more blues. It's fun and doesn't get tiring for me!

As far as my life is concerned, it has it's ups and downs. But I know that even the downs are temporary and life goes on.

Thanks for the thoughtful comments!

Live your best!

...& its in the downs when we feel nothin is happening that things actually ARE happening. . (!) it can be frustrating 'the downs'/ 'lows' but if we realize THIS - its easier to handle ! its that way for me anyhow & many I think lol ! TX AGAIN
