Description:
Something I'm working on with banjo influenced by Feist, maybe. My venture into Logic Express 8. There's some cool drum kit stuff. The main drum track on this is actually EZ Drummer Nashville "fingers" Kit and then every once in a while I add some Ultrabeat. Pretty fun stuff. This might turn into a Fritters tune, but it remains to be seen if Kelli comes up with some sort of melody and lyrics for it, so for now I added some silly treated pump organ thing and some other weird synth stuff.
I just got some Big Boots for the snow. hence the title.

Hardware:
banjo, Fender Esquire, Peavey Delta Blues amp

Software:
LE8

be nice to hear Kelli's voice, but wanted to add this stands very well on its own. The chord progression is wonderful and the mix/selection of instruments weaves an interesting blend. The percussion and fx are stellar

I hope that guy in the picture is drinking ginger ale :-)

maybe with some rye &mdash 12/18/07 - 08:56:47 AM
Holiday cheer, that's what it is! Big boots for all the white christmas stuff we've got around here. I was stuck in the traffic near the mall on Route 9 and realized I could use some good boots and figured a break from sitting in traffic wouldn't hurt either.
Thanks for the affirmation on the chord progression, since I was wondering if that would be the weak link in this song. It's probably a little too busy and will be pared down for the vocal version.

BIG SOUND &mdash 12/18/07 - 09:01:48 AM
Not Obvious.
Meditative.
Hear Chimes and Bells even if they're not there.

appreciation and regards,
Cooper

meditative, yes &mdash 12/18/07 - 10:49:27 AM
That one line the banjo repeats sounds like something I listened to back when I had insomnia. Your song did not put me to sleep, though.

Not your typical banjo piece. This is something very special. I'd say it is meditative/electro/folk/jazz. Not that I'd want to label it or anything ;)

A lovely composition. Stands alone as an instrumental, but could be an amazing vocal piece as well.

beautiful. i really like all of the elements that you've pulled together. stands alone for sure, but i think it will be a great vocal song as well. it's got some really beautiful tones going on (love the sound of the banjo - recorded so well I can hear the skin on it). great job.

thanks! &mdash 12/18/07 - 07:25:02 PM
The banjo is recorded with a Rode NT1000 mic through an ART Tube PAC preamp, which is my usual setup. The guitar amp is recorded with a Nady Ribbon Microphone with the same preamp. The rest of the instruments are Logic Express instruments except the pump organ, which is a soundfont I found on the internet. It doesn't sound much like a pump organ here because I used a tone of effects

Great bed Jim &mdash 12/18/07 - 11:00:42 PM
I can hear Kelli doing a standout job on this. a very moody piece - good soundtrack for the start of a cowboy movie.

Have a great Christmas and an enjoyable 2008!

Thanks for the help you've given me regarding mixing and mastering - I'm a willing student :)

Yeah... &mdash 12/20/07 - 04:45:24 AM
...it's the chord progression that does it. It just makes you smile in a dreamy way. I love it.

You have the knack for the off-beat arrangement and the production is stellar. Blips and beeps are always a winner....

Merry Christmas :-)

Cool backdrop for? &mdash 12/24/07 - 01:34:11 PM
As a backing track this is cool stuff. As standalone I'd say it needs something more. That banjo lick is not quite individualistic enough to cary the track. But it's a cool sound and the whole thing has a smooth groove. Yes, by all means try to get a melody on it.
