Description:
I was looking for an uplifting subject and thought of the Sleeping Knights of Alderly Edge (http://www.alderleyedge.org/Wizard.htm) who will supposedly awake one day and save us from well.. ourselves I suppose.Or certain death by way of the absence of root vegtables for example.

I made a video too - the qualitys not too great and the sound is in mono for some unknown reason. Its actually pretty crisp on imovie.

video (youtube)

Many thanks to Rebsie and Racerat for their talents.

rebsie - vocals/indianesque
racerat - vocals/electric guitar
paddler - accoustic git and beats etc

Merry Christmas and a Happy New 2008 to everyone at macjams.
Now then - time for sherry.

Lyrics:
The Vison Of Angels / River Of Life

For a 1000 years we have lain below
In the fires of the mountain of fear
But theres a whisper of change
In the turning tide
Could it be - our time is near?

Running into the sun
With the vision of angels
Theres a reason to live
A reason to die
And we must go on
Fighting for the river of life

Theres a beast in men and a restless dream
With a heart that beats but we can't be seen
For the cries of war we will refuse
In a race of truth we have nothing to lose

Running into the sun
With the vision of angels
Theres a reason to live
A reason to die
And we must go on
Fighting for the river of life

You could be the reason we're drowning in the water
Time has got you spinning better save your sons and daughters
The stars are burning brighter than we have ever known
Its time we got together - time this bird was flown

ah ah ah ah
ah ah ah ah
ah ah ah ah - the river of life

the river of life X 6

Running into the STORM - lightning may strike - and nations may fall
Only time can tell - If we can survive - dont know heaven from hell
Just keep fighting for the river of life

nice composition. &mdash 12/19/07 - 12:54:54 AM
what a great bass sound.
I love the piano in sync with the vox in the start.
The vocal harmonies are real sweet...'into the sun'...
great production and the vocal performances are right on the money.
Theres that rebsie again/she keeps poping up
Dig the jammin piano in the tune, it really brings back some old "Stuff"(Original Saturday night Live Band/NBC.TV)
the keyboard player was Richard Tee(I think)/he hasalso worked with Paul Simon amongst many others
eough
great collab and recording
peace

Just make sure you get ready,... in the right mood, first.

Its a bit off the wall. try to find the early years, the '70s...are best...

great collab

What a &mdash 12/19/07 - 02:07:38 AM
big song and production. Great collaboration, everyones part fits so perfectly (what is an indianesque?).
This sounds like one of those songs that will be around forever and could be covered in any genre. Just brilliant songwriting. The choice of instruments and their masterful playing is also superb. Your vocals all blend so well too.
All-in-all a perfect production.
Cheers
Len

Thanks len.An indianesque is the word I chose to describe the eastern type singing at the beginning.I dont know if its a real word, and I also dont know if rebsie is of indian descent.

Its a nice concept to think of a song bouncing around forever. Then again - is there such a thing as forever? I dunno.Probably best if I just stuff a mince pie in my face and stop wondering.

Cheers Len

Indianesque &mdash 12/19/07 - 10:16:08 AM
Yeah, actually I'm one-sixteenth Indian, thanks to a colonial liaison in 19th century Madras. It still manifests in a love of warbly vocals.

Cheers God.

I never heard the term 'song crating' before - interesting. Thanks very much

Webster's Ways &mdash 12/20/07 - 11:27:39 AM
Crate (krat), n., v.,crated, crat-ing. -n. 1. a slatted wooden box for packing,shipping,or storing fruit,furniture,etc.3.informal. something rickety and dilapidated,esp. an automobile.5. to pack in a crate.

Craft (kraft), n.,pl.crafts v., craft-ed,craft-ing 1. an art, trade or occuopation requiring special skill.2.skill;dexterity 9.to make or manufacture with great skill and care.
My apologies,I'm pretty sure I meant 'crafting' and not crating!

Great collab this is. I do like this folky-jazz style, the performances all round are excellent along with the arrangement. I like how it really moves along gathering to itself as it goes.... As does life, regards and all the best for the season to all here, M

Not to sound funny &mdash 12/19/07 - 11:36:53 PM
but i hear a bit of a few late '60's influences. but that's the true psychedelia garden to grow from. trippy with both feet on the ground.

Rich and Rebs &mdash 12/20/07 - 01:38:29 AM
Thanks for asking me to participate on this little beauty. I had so much fun. It came out really open airy and lush. Certainly a 60's trippiness to it, what with the "indianesque" singing (perfect term if you ask me, great work Rebsie!). Plus, the added bonus of the video which is VERY cool.
Peace,
Philip

Retro prog folk &mdash 12/20/07 - 08:30:35 AM
I really dig the retro prog folk feel, combining electro-bass and sparse electro piano (my fav sound on the track), the cross-genre nature of every layer. Very cool.

Go &mdash 12/20/07 - 08:43:15 AM
Good outlay. I like the lead vox and flanking chorus bits judiciously applied. That's a funky juice harp keyboard sound. Excellent lyrics. The songs needs just a tad more "presence". It needs just one thin layer of gauze peeled back. The limitations of non-analog mixing on a shoestring budget, no doubt.

wow &mdash 12/21/07 - 06:34:05 PM
Paddler, racerat and Rebsie

This has a terrific rock catchiness to it. The backround singing really fits in and the lyrics are fun to listen to.

This is a pop radio hit tune, When I hear tunes like this I feel like pleading to radios that be and tell then hey this has the ability to go big on the radio.

Way to go. This should be a money tune on the radio.

That backround singing is so nice to hear.
Very impressed!

Paddler, this is great........ &mdash 12/22/07 - 03:48:07 PM
Love all the vocals, nicely blended. The keys are killer, and the song has a ear friendly structure that is no work at all to listen to, unconciously keeping the beat with my feet/hands. I also like the acoustic strumming which is done superbly. Nothing to lose in a race for truth, so true.
PS: that video is tres cool.
Cheers,
Joe

Lovely bit of psychedelic... &mdash 12/22/07 - 10:22:31 PM
...Let's see...great arrangement and production, with stuff stopping and starting intelligently and creatively...Great blend of voices, great Sixties piano and great strumming acoustic... Great dulcimerish sound in there, too...

I figure along about the fifth listen, which is surely coming, I'll get some inkling what it's all about, which is about par for me and my favorite psychedelic songs...

The thing just sounds cool...

Real nice keyboards - Garth Hudson playful.
Love the changes going into the "vision of angels" change up.
Nice Talent Pool, here. Mixed so everyone has the right space.

As a guitarist, of course would like more definition in the outtro guitar part!

appreciation and best regards,
Merry Christmas

what a blend &mdash 12/23/07 - 07:15:07 PM
of sonics and talent. Wonderful smorgasborg of vocals. The synth and piano are my favorite. It just seems to strike such an original thread with me. Yet it also seems to keep on a familiar plain. Kudo's to Rebsie and Philip for outstanding contributions.
