Description:
A love song.

Lyrics:
If The Stars Fall

Where do you go from here?
How do you know what’s real
When your reality suddenly disappears
Like a dream in the morning light?

How do you face the day?
How do you fight your own invisibility
Where do you find the way
When the road is as dark as night?

You’ve convinced yourself there’s nobody else to blame
Convinced yourself there’s nobody else
Nobody else

But If the stars fall from your eyes
Before you sink into despair
Let me be your morning light
Let this love song fill the air
You can rest your weary heart
And when you open your eyes I’ll be there

Why do you turn away?
How can the answer not be in the heart of you?
Maybe you’ll never change the world
But honey you just might

Convince yourself there’s nobody else the same
Convince yourself you’re nobody else
You’re nobody else

You don’t know what the hell is wrong
But it’s been going on way too long

Hey there! &mdash 12/21/07 - 11:11:30 PM
Thanks for the kind words, dude. Like the horse metaphor (even if my only time on a horse left me walking bandy-legged for days...) and, yes, I will endeavor to stay in the saddle. Glad you liked the bridge and chorus. Interesting that you picked up on those aspects of the song, since I started the track with the verse chords and melody, and now I find the parts you mention more interesting. Huh. Hey, if it were a straightforward process, it wouldn't be any fun, right? Thanks again. Peace.

Hi Peter &mdash 12/21/07 - 11:18:39 PM
Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Glad you like the song, and thanks for the nice words about the recording. I'm trying to get closer to making the songs I record sound more like what I hear in my head when I start. Harder, of course, than it sounds! Anyway, thanks again for taking the time. I always appreciate your feedback. Loved your holiday song by the way. Peace.

Thank you, friend &mdash 12/22/07 - 11:29:03 AM
Glad you found the song uplifting, since that was one of my goals, and thanks for the nice words about the guitar sound. I love the acoustic sound - I think because that's the instrument I learned to make music on. Most of the music I listen to is based around electric instruments or keyboards, but when I sit down to put a song together, I tend to drift towards the battered old acoustic 6-string. Next song I'm working on is a collab with DJ French Toast, which is nudging me in a different direction, but even there I've managed to work in an acoustic! I think I may ban it from my next track, though, just to freshen things up. Thanks again for your comment. I have immense respect for your talent, and i respect your opinion. Cheers. Peace.

Nice beat to go with &mdash 12/22/07 - 10:46:02 AM
the very well done singing. A very introspective sound, like that chorus sound strums that drone in the right places. Lots of neat soft rock stuff here.

Way to go

[ Reply to This ]
I like the &mdash 12/22/07 - 01:19:32 PM
introspective idea, and thanks for the nice words about the sound. The chorus strums were something I put in and took out a few times before I decided to keep them at a lower volume, and less forward after the first bar of the chorus. Glad you noticed them, and happy you think they worked. Thanks for taking the time - I appreciate it. Peace.

Very kind words, indeed. You flatter me with your comment on my voice; it's an area I do not feel is my strongest. But I enjoy it, and no small animals get hurt in the process, so why not, eh? Thanks again for stopping by. I appreciate your input. Peace.

Cool stuff &mdash 12/22/07 - 07:52:09 PM
Until the guitar solo at the end this tune is clearly about the lyrics. Of which there is quite a bit, and it all flows very nicely. I like how you keep the arrangement interesting while still serving the vocals. Good job keeping those intelligible without just cranking them up. Everything blends very nicely in the mix.

Thanks for your comment &mdash 12/22/07 - 11:16:10 PM
I appreciate your comment about the lyrics. Yeah, it's very much a song of words. Glad you think the mix worked. I spend a ludicrous amount of time mixing and remixing, bouncing to my iPod, listening again and again, tweaking and retouching. As soon I post any song, I immediately think "Ouch, maybe I should just bring the guitar down a bit..." or something like that. Nice to hear that it sounds good to your ears. Appreciate it. Peace.

I appreciate your stopping by and taking the time. I always appreciate your comments. Glad you liked the song, and happy you enjoyed the lyrics. As someone else mentioned, this is a "lyrics" song. Really enjoyed your contribution to thoddi's Christmas collab, by the way. I hope you have a great Christmas and a peaceful, and creative New Year. All the best to you and yours. Peace.

I too like the build in this song &mdash 12/24/07 - 09:49:06 AM
You build the song nicely up to the guitar solo. That keeps it very interesting to listen too.

To my ear this has a lot of Al Stewart feel to it ... and to my ear that is good because he was one of my favorites.

Thank you, dude &mdash 12/24/07 - 02:49:06 PM
I was intrigued to hear the Al Stewart idea. He's somebody I used to hear a lot back in the day, but I haven't even thought about him for a long while. He has a great voice. I'm flattered by the comparison. Glad you like the build up in the song, too. Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. I appreciate it. Peace.

Very nice &mdash 12/24/07 - 11:10:37 AM
.. something reminds me a little of Bryan Ferry & Roxy Music .. perhaps in some vocal phrasing, but quite subtle. A fine tune David, great laid back feel, singing and nice percussive acoustic strumming- acoustic kinda like earlier Bowie classics in sound. All in all a
solid, pleasant result. Kudos.

Thank you kindly &mdash 12/24/07 - 02:59:28 PM
for your comment. I'm very flattered. I'll take Bryan Ferry as a comparison any day! Glad you enjoyed the guitar work and the song in general. Thanks for taking the time (especially at this busy time of year!) - I appreciate it. Merry Chistmas (and a Happy Hogmanay...) Peace.

very cool &mdash 12/24/07 - 01:28:24 PM
I really like the way your voice just seems to flow and fill the track with heartfelt warmth. Oh..to be able to sing like this... just great song writing. Excellent production extras the way you handle the transitions (Chorus is amazing), the backing vox rock. I esp like the way it builds thru till the solo.

I really enjoyed your latest - a really, fresh, catchy song - and I'm delighted you like this. I get a sense from some of the comments that the chorus perhaps works better than the verse on some level - just the kind of useful feedback that makes this place so valuable. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment. I appreciate it, and i look forward to checking out some more of your stuff in the near future. Peace.

I'm glad you liked the combination of acoustic and electric. I'm a big fan of that sound, too. Having said that, I think I have kind of fallen into a rut of doing that all the time. The next track has no acoustic on it (yet....) Thanks for your kind words about my singing. You are an outstanding musician, and I appreciate your taking the time. Peace.

great &mdash 12/27/07 - 03:41:24 PM
A very catchy composition, greatly arranged and performed. The vocals grabbed me from the first moment, and I think it was a bright idea to bring them in at the very start of the song. The chorus lingers on in my head and I'm especially keen on the harmonies with the lower range of your voice.

One little remark: I would have liked the drums to sound a bit clearer/cleaner and more panned L/R to give the song more 'headroom'. Besides this, great song, and I'm glad I stopped by.

Thank you, indeed &mdash 12/27/07 - 04:56:26 PM
for your flattering comments. I'm really glad you liked the vocals, and the idea of kicking in with the first line (i spent a lot of time chopping and changing until I came back to that!) Your comment on the drums was thought-provoking. Until very recently I never put effects on the drum loops I used (scared I'd mess up the sound) but on this one I did a bit of "thickening". I really wasn't sure if it had worked - it kind of seemed like the sound had less clarity or something. Now you make me think that perhaps I was right in the first place! Good ear, friend. Thanks for the detailed comment. I appreciate it. Happy New Year to you and yours. Peace.

I am glad I came to listen to this song. This is pure enjoyment. Such a clear sound. You have a tender and mellow voice that is wrapped perfectly in that acoustic guitar and music background. I am really in awe of your talent on display here. One of the best acoustic guitar/vocal songs I have heard on MJ. Thanks.

I think this is really a song about the words first, and the music second, so it means a lot that you notice the lyrics. Having said that, I have been thinking about this song again recently, and envisaging a new arrangement. You never know, I may even get round to doing it! Many thanks for taking the time to go back and check this out. I appreciate it. Cheers. Peace.

I'm delighted you went back and checked this one out. This song is one that I constantly want to revisit and perhaps do again. I can't help but think I didn't quite get the approach right - something about the verses seems a little forced to me or something. I certainly think I need to change the intro. But it's a meaningful song for me, and I like most of it, and I'm very happy you enjoyed it. Thanks for the nod on structure' although I have to say I think you do a damned good job in that area yourself! Thanks again, man. Much appreciated. Peace.
