Keywords:
Whales (9)piano (605)scuba (1)
Description:
Mavis slipped over the side of the dive boat and into the water. She was at once struck by how different diving in the ocean was than the SCUBA lessons in the Oshkosh YMCA pool. Strangely, she had a feeling of claustrophobia in the freedom of the ocean that she never had experienced in the walls of the pool.

She soon began to feel more relaxed and was enjoying the beauty of the ocean, the color of the filtered sunlight above, then the first Humpback appeared. Mavis almost choked on her air supply mouthpiece. It was enormous ... nearly as big as the truck her ex-husband drove for a living back in Wisconsin. She marveled at the grace and ease with which the giant mammal moved in the water. It's smoothness almost made her embarrassed because of her own clumsy efforts at moving in the water. Then it sang ... its beautiful song. Mavis just wished she could understand what the Whale was saying. Was she calling to some unseen lover ... warning of a clumsy stranger in the area ... or calling to her child?

After 30 minutes, Mavis was short of air in the tanks and had to surface.

She had never thought that such a short dive could have changed her life forever.

Very nice, atmospheric &mdash 12/21/07 - 11:14:45 PM
piece of music. Lovely sounds and nice touch on the keyboards. The backstory and image send the song in a certain direction for sure, but to my mind, it seems open to many interpretations. Very nice work. Peace.

Thanks for the comment &mdash 12/21/07 - 11:26:16 PM
You're right ... it is open to many interpretations and you can feel free to enjoy the song in any context you please. I have fun with a little story that goes along with some of my songs just because that is how the song strikes me. But the fact that the listener brings a lot to the music, has always been one of the reasons I have enjoyed music.

Thanks again.

Nice combination &mdash 12/22/07 - 10:29:15 AM
of that punchy bass and the beautiful haunting piano. The choir fits in as well. Like those orca type sounds.

Very unusually done. A treat in sea depth creativity.

Like that haunting theme. Really has the nautic feel.

Enjoyable

I'm glad you like this song. Sometimes a good melody line is hard for me to come up with considering my limited skills. I like the way this worked out and I'm honored that you like it too.

You're injecting some synths here I have yet to hear before. The voice like pads are astonishing. Your subtle progression and heartfelt performance adds to the depth. A perfect sonic backdrop for watching whales. Majestic is what come to mind.
