On the way (w/Z293)

Description
I couldn't hope to classify this one, so apologies to the Genre police. It developed from a re worked MIDI file circa 1988. I got it somewhat presentable and then asked Z293 to see if he could work some of his magic and man, that he did. I really dig his interpretation of the jam.

I am thrilled to chills when things get going.

Two great Musicians!
Great music , pianos roll and wind down endlessly and Z what can I say...such a dynamic hard rock guitarist, just amazing stuff here...

Cool
Like the track. Some interesting rock, jazz fusion going on here. Fast with lots of finesse.

Thanks

This has a great opening
The first few bars seem to hint at one thing, and then it changes into something else completely. I love the bass on this, and the bass is out of this world. This is terrific musicianship. As for the genre - I think Rockin' Prog Jazz Funk would maybe do it justice. And isn't "Genre Police" a good name for a song? Awesome track. Kudos. Nice work. Peace. And a Merry Christmas.

Needs no Genre...
...unless you could call it:
"Tight, mindblowing canyons of sound".
Yeah...that would do it...

Great playing
I dig the driving drums giving this a pummeling jazz fusion groove, a la 'Return to forever' .Imagine Stanley clark pushing and Billy Cobham ripping the skins and Chic doing what he does on you song..
anyway that was so-pose to be a complement...
great playing and fine musicianship
keep em coming
this was a great listen and a keeper for sure
peace

drums
Tim, the drums are actually MIDI (Beatboy). They put out a series a way back from Roger Morganstein (sp?) of the Dixie Dregs. Complete song files you could use to incorporate into your own tracks. Thx for stopping by

GREAT BASS!
Lovely stuff - love the drumming (and everything really) - keep waiting for Wayne Shorter to chime in to take it up another notch! Bass seems to disappear a bit in the mix during the solo, but a minor nit only.
Excellent guitar - piano as good as anticipated! Touch of Carlos on the lead. Love this!
Happy 2008!

Thanks to KTB
For the amazing musical bed to get things started and your keyboard work is flawless. I've been stuggling with my own work lately and this one really gave me some much needed inspiration. Came together pretty easy really, I think only abount 120 takes.

80's
I pick up a scent from the 80's, especially from the drums and the keys that starts this song. Excellent performance on those keys. That guitar ain't to shabby either:)

Damn, you guys...
I'd been slipping in behind the scenes while randomly selecting a listen here every now and then when I can, but I haven't commented on anything because real life stuff hasn't afforded me much in the world of leisure lately - But this little ditty has yanked me right on outta the shadows to bestow upon you my utter sense of awe - As my nephew would say, this stuff is freaken tight! Liked everything about it - As always John, your synth action never fails to do me quite well - I like! I like! - Really nice work on the percs and drumming too! It sounded like a bit of focused effort went into both of them - Well... and how could one not dig the bass - Z293 string stretchn' is so awfully, "right on" - Dig the unexpected change-ups -- What a great track!

A most impressive collab gents!

Thanks for this! Dion

big fusion
Oooh yes, this works fine for me. Big fusion of all kind of genres. Splendid guitar work! My only little nit is the ending of the song: perhaps it could have been a bit more complex like the rest of the song. But that that's just a minor quibble. Great work, guys...

like the movement of this
the helter skelter of the piano and the way the bass goes all over the place especially in the beginning. Nice guitar licks.

Z293 said 694 days ago (December 28th, 2007)
Guitar Rig 2
Coming from the King of Tone I take that as the highest compliment. The tone comes from an Ibenez JS1200 guitar and a Presonus Blue Tube preamp into Guitar Rig 2, pretty basic, but I believe the recent addition of Logic's Pro 8 Space Designer reverb really rounds the tone out.

Props to MIDI!!
In it's own way, it's 'easy to do', I know; but it sure beats spending all those years learning how to play a real instrument.... until Z293 comes around to make a compelling case for putting in those years!

Really smokin tune, this. Top flight performances all around.

I'm picky
and this is fantastic. I'm a big fan of the driving bass line a la Jeff Berlin, and this does it for me.

Also, your guitar playing and sound are perfect for the song.

And just to prove that I'm not a 10-bomber, I think the last guitar note goes a little sour, and maybe ... just maybe ... there could be a bigger finish. My $.02.

Do you mike your guitar amp? I'm still trying to get my guitar to sound decent in LE7, and it doesn't yet. I'm running through a Boss GT-8 processor right into a Firebox. Do you think that will turn out to be workable, or do I need to buy a mic and piss off the neighbors?
Z293 said 642 days ago (February 18th, 2008)
Sour Note?
I'm always good for a least a couple per song, but really thanks for the listen. On this song I used Guitar Rig2 through Logic Studio but before that I was using LE7 and probably the all difference on this one is the addition of Logic Pro's reverb which I find outstanding. I don't have much luck with a mic on an amp but I also never pissed off the neighbors. On my song Solar Flare I used a Boss GT-8 which I think is a great piece of equipment, a little fizzy sometimes but I think you can make it work. Chris of MacJams' PickQuick Records uses a GT-8 with amazing results, unfortunately he pulled all his music. Good Luck.

That's the sound...
that I want. I listened to Solar Flare. Damn, man. Balls to spare. If I could get THAT sound, I would be a happy man. Even better if I could play like that, too. I'll keep working on it. Thanks for the inspiration.

Nice picture of the corona, too.

Muchas merci for the reply.
