Description:
A complete remake of a song I created about two years ago. Not exactly my typical down-tempo genre... It was fun and I hope you enjoy it as such.
I'm not sure about the genre 'gothic rock' (the closest I could come up with). I suppose it's something more 'gothic-electro-dance-pop'... Whatever, it's danceable... mmm... I think so... partially:-)

Nice one &mdash 12/26/07 - 03:47:31 PM
Great sound and production. Sounded great in the headphones. I particularly like the abrupt piano riffs and the "brass" riff on the break. Vocal performance is terrific - reminded me somewhat of Gary Numan (which in my book is a good thing btw!) Nice rolling, sense of motion feel to the music, and good beats. Nice work. Peace. the piano riff and the brass melody in the bridge where two of the elements I really wanted to keep unchanged. They are kind of the hook of the song. Thanks for the sweet compliments and most of all for listening. Much appreciated.

use of fx &mdash 12/26/07 - 04:00:42 PM
Lots of interesting fx use in here. Very clever use of the echo's both on the keys and on your vox.
The repeating piano figure going up and down was a neat hook-line.
As I tend to be a soul/blues guy, I can't quite get into the groove of this genre with total devotion, but I can recognize that you must have enjoyed making it and that it is a well craftet piece of music:)

Thanks again so much for popping in and taking the time to listen and comment. Even more appreciated knowing you as indeed the soul&blues guy you are;-) This is indeed a bit a new experience for me as well, but I like to broaden my musical horizons from time to time. And sure, it was tons of fun!

Although I purchased Logic recently, I think I'm still glued to GB for quite a while. Perhaps just out of laziness:-) So I'm glad you liked the production performance. Thanks so much again for passing by. And you know that the appreciation is absolutely mutual.

Loud and clear &mdash 12/27/07 - 08:33:33 AM
This sounds very good. Lots of sounds going on, and everything clearly audible. Nice job.
The whole arrangement is very good, with the treatmnt of the vocals, and that piano riff. That one actually makes the song.
Cool. [ Reply to This ]

Piano Hooked Me &mdash 12/27/07 - 02:37:58 PM
Super original treatment to the piano and the staccato vocals. You have such a cool voice and you use it well in this rather unusual gothic song. The horns were interesting.
I've downloaded this one.
Thanks for posting a really good song.

at the intro riff/I'm dancing &mdash 12/27/07 - 09:49:14 PM
You have exhibited your vocal can fit anywhere. You have one of the most identifiable voices on the planet.
along with Neil young, Bob Dylan, and Jiguma.
You are in good company for sure... The exactness in you vocal performance is impressive...
This tune is very creative in its full bodied production. You have such good ideas when it comes to creating a sound to enhance your great song-writing. I really dig the drum pics, they give the tune great strenth. You conjure up a sense of invincibility wit this cut.
I could dig some kind of chordal change up with a cutting guitar solo from maybe mcboy or a rocker like PickQuick Records or even a subtle slippery ziti solo....
I am a guitar solo type o guy...
anothe suggestion...
I'm full of em tonight...
Some harmonies against you vocal to sweetin the pot would be cool...
You voice sounds so cool on' the same herd' with the clean and clear Lisa(ledebutant) vocal accompaniment.
Just IMHO

great great sound

you're way too kind, man... Thanks so much for the lovely compliments. And I'm really considering your suggestions. On the other side, I don't want to make the song too 'lovely'(cfr. the vocal harmonies). It's a very cold, almost robotic-like song, and that's something I definitely want to keep.
Neil Young, Bob Dylan and Jiguma. Indeed, veeeery great company:-) Thanks so much again, Tim!

...that you can't do?
Wow. And when that horn part comes in, it just gets better and better!
If it is possible, I am an even bigger fan than I was!
Fantastic job in trying something new--that means you are a true artist: more interested in change than you are afraid of change. Admirable. [ Reply to This ]

Remarkable.. &mdash 12/30/07 - 05:39:35 AM
.. aced the production Walter. Solid tune and nicely different and fresh. The beats and work on the vocal playing off the delay are worth special mention .. though I'm not keen on the Paul Hardcastle "19" 'l l l l l lies' stuttering myself to be perfectly honest.
I liked all the parts and how they interplay with each other - it does have the electropop thing and as David mentioned, with your (excellent) voice, leads me to think of Gary Numan too, as closest kin. Having said that, I would have been tempted to try the piano as a deep analog synth, something sawy, bit of bite to it.
Cool song, enjoyeable listen, brilliant production/mix. [ Reply to This ]
alan &mdash 12/30/07 - 06:26:53 AM
You might be right about the stuttering on 'lies'. I think I'd rather finetune it for the CD version or just leave it out. About replacing the piano by a deep synth: I just did the opposite at the time. IMHO the piano (and perhaps also the brass part) give the song this unusual edge. But I guess any song is like a portion of french fries: I like them with mayonnaise and perhaps you prefer ketchup:-)
Thanks so much again for popping in, mate! And have a spledid year ahead!

Very effective driving, tension level throughout. This is one of your best. I enjoyed it much. This tune also lends itself to add some rapping in the background. This is really bold stuff.

I like the beat.... &mdash 01/06/08 - 03:54:20 PM
...and I like the staccato synth and the starting-and-stopping piano...
The mix and the arrangement work well together in terms of accentuating the hooks in the rhythm and lyrics...
This IS different from what I've heard from you before, but nicely so. A great change, and one that would give new life to slower tunes if it was on a CD among them...
