stormchasing (by the hamlet machines)

Description
As a present for christmas time as well as a desperate attempt to resist Mcjams' inexorable drift towards professional-quality recording and musical competence, here's a song by the Hamlet Machines. It has been done a few months ago, but some remarks on storm chasing in the recent "who are you" thread made it an oppotunity to post it. it's a rough weather mix , with some static involved, but what can you expect ?

Lyrics
STORMCHASING

This road
‘s a fallen lighting rod
that’s pointed towards nowhere
I drive
And drive to feel alive
Wishing it could last forever

Once like you
I had a life
I had a wife
Or maybe two
For some reasons I don’t know of
It was too much and not enough

I am stormchasing
And it’s like
I’m waiting
It's like
I'm waiting
For the lightning
To strike

Up and down Tornado Alley
Like there was no other way
I know I’ll never end this ride
Till I’mso close I’ll see inside

This cloud
That’s rumbling loud
It has the voice of a father
This flash
That’s gonna crash
It smiles at me like a mother

Setting cameras
and tripod
For the wrath
of a minor God
For some reasons I don’t know of
It’s beautiful but not enough
I’d like to see it wreaking havoc
I ‘d like to feel the fear and shock

Rough Weather Mix
It's always great to see another Hamlet Machines has posted. You and BK Sound have another fine product. To describe the guitar sounds, I'll have to quote the song itself:

This cloud
That%u2019s rumbling loud
It has the voice of a father
This flash
That%u2019s gonna crash
It smiles at me like a mother

I like the way the chorus is sung and think the whole thing is mixed well. The bass sounds solid and sits good in the phones. The rhythm guitar reminds me of the dude that plays for the Monngz. It has a dirty garage sound that compliments BK's ever experimental leads. Some of those leads are from beyond the clouds.

Thanks for the download cj.

brainstorming
This was one of the songs that did not make it to Harlequin. I found it was a bit too "classical" for my comfort, whatever that meant. Michael2's remark in the forum that he would like to go storm chasing made me think to open the drawer where I had forgotten it. It's kind if dedicated to him, then.

The rythm's guitars is Brentford's: I don't allow myself to fuck up hamlet machines' songs. But if you have ideas about how it could sound better, you're very warmly welcome.

Hi
I love the overall sound...

Five Extra Arms is right... the leads are from beyond the clouds...

I get a distinct Eno/Magazine feel from these... and that's a compliment...

look back in flanger
I'll transmit to the lead guitar player. I don't think he has ever heard Magazine (which I did, thanks to 5Xa), but I think he knows the McGeoch sound from the early Banshees.

thanks for listening.

...Miss this? I probably just right by it, I am glad I came across it.

Wow this is sleek raw yet subdued with a steady pulse... I will get to know your stuff a bit better soon, but for starters I love this. Your vocals are amazing!

Reminds me...
Bring back memories of driving around on a Friday night back in the late 80's when I was teenager, but I don't know why.
Good stuff.

white line fever
For some reasons "I don't know of", the music has always had a "cruising" feel to it. I wrote the words from this feeling.
