Description:
The sound of Glasgow on a rainy day - somewhere around 1982.

New wave and European sounds are wiping away the last remnants of punk.

Time to investigate....

Hey man, this was unexpected... I heard Gary Numan pushing his way past Sid Vicious and excusing himself politely. Then Midge Ure punched him in the nose and it turned into a rumble.

Nice style change for you. I hear the New Romantic sounds that took over the sound of the day.

Just a slight indulgence... &mdash 12/28/07 - 10:08:52 AM
I was listening to a mixed bag earlier and Ultravox's Alles Klar from the Vienna album came on, directly followed by Being Boiled by the Human League and I just thought, "What the hell...."

Instant made-up music! Love it!

Off for the week... &mdash 12/28/07 - 12:07:49 PM
Glad I was so I can catch these new tunes by my favorite artists on Mj as soon as they come. I always wanted to do Keys the right way but it always sounds like something is missing in my key work. Not the case here, this is full bodied and mesmerizing. Ok whats the setup? you knew the question had to come sooner or later...Thanks Jim for posting again!

The set up! &mdash 12/28/07 - 06:22:29 PM
Two finger tapping on the musical keyboard in GB. That's it.

Glad you tuned in. Any old lyrics lying around that might fit?

I love this and it's just the kind of mood I was wondering how I could go about making with my new Symphony Pack, but you beat me to it LOL, This is really great stuff and definitely a DL for my 'Moody Listening' album, 'Classy' is the word. Cheers and all the best M

Open season is here! &mdash 12/28/07 - 06:28:38 PM
Anyone with the words, the voice and the inclination can take this and run with it. Might prove tougher than first imagined.

Would be a fun thing to develop it further - however, I'll throw my own hat in the ring too and see what I can do...

Hope all is well in Brooklyn. Cheers for commenting.

lanarky &mdash 12/29/07 - 07:02:10 AM
I thought the sound of Glasgow in 82 was Orange Juice's jingle jangle and Josef K. itchy-scratchiness. That may have been on sunny days.

This sounds more like Lanark to me. and more to my taste.

Scotland's music in the 80s &mdash 12/29/07 - 11:21:40 AM
CJ - you know your Postcard Records stuff (don't forget Aztec Camera too).

Aside that scene there, was the electronic thing going on back in the day; early Simple Minds, Cocteau Twins, Associates, Blue Nile, Berlin Blondes to name a few.

Was an easy transition from punk, for those of us with wider tastes, but I do remember the battles between the last gasp punks and the 'new' new romantics. I saw blood.

People actually cared about their musical territory then, maybe it was a fashion thing, I dunno, but that passion seems to be amiss these days.

In the meantime, I'm happy to be able to cross over from one sound to another. It's all good. Maybe it IS better now, no need to argue about it (or is that 'cos at this age you just avoid the nonsense?) If I feel like hearing a style from any era I want, then hey - I can just go and make it, thank you very much. Back then, you had to wait for months for the next single...or you formed a band. I waited. And got Garageband!

Can't beat a wee trip down memory lane. Fabulous!

PS - I eventually moved from Glasgow to somewhere between there and Lanark. Both are 15 miles away. And also 25 years away....

Happy New Year - have a Hogmany drink on me!

this really sent me drifting off into outerspace. I'm glad I'm connected to a guide line so I can be pulled back in.
