Description:
I have a friend - Mikalaj Boron from Wroclaw,Poland who works as a night porter - the same job I used to do at the same hotel, and he writes poetry.I love different languages so I persuaded him to record some of his stuff and he liked the idea that I might be able to put some music to it.Its hard to meet up because of the hours he works, but I met him and his friend one night back in october and we started recording.Mikalaj insisted on attempting to translate into english - the language was ok but trying to get what he was artistically visualising was slow.2 bottles of wine and a bottle of vodka later I managed to get 5 of his poems and 2 translations but I dont have the polish version which is a shame - I wagered to get the other 5 later this year so I will get the translations then.
Any way - he is a massive Doors fan - so,what with me not being the doors I tried to get that feel but with a dancey/ambient feel to it all.
If anyone out there understands Polish,I'd be interested to know if this english translation is close
The photo is from the daily mail from an article about the 'phenomenon' of female binge drinking in the uk.
Thanks - RG
Lyrics:
Bezgwiezdna
(english translation)
They are not angels
Even though they have wings
They spread shadows in the moonlight
They hover above the ruins
Of derelict buildings
Just to find a spot to rest
Somwhere on the ruins of time
This is the place
They see themselves every night
After every midnight
This place is branded with their emotions
After sunset their hearts begin to burn
And their breath is frozen,unified,solidified
And the wind who blows through this place
Is the only witness of this scene
Who reveals the secret of this sweet affair
And who reverberates around the ruins.
The history of love and of starless deaf night

I think one sees it all from the perspective of working nights. I certainly felt that way during some periods I did. Certainly have been where this young lass has been. An excellent track. Trippy, hippy, and chilled. Your piano playing is hypnotically cool. The strings have a 70's surge in them. Well produced and delicious. [ Reply to This ]
Tasty track &mdash 12/28/07 - 11:20:03 PM
I like this a lot. I think you really succeeded in getting something of that Doors keyboard vibe going. Really excellent playing. Love the slightly trippy feel of the whole track. I just listened to River of Life and this really shows your versatility. You have no boundaries, which is very cool. I don't know Polish, but I know someone who does. In fact, they work at translating English into Polish and vice versa. If you get the Polish, send it to me and I'll see if he can have a look. Nice work. Peace, and a Happy New Year. Always had a soft spot for the mysterious, incomprehensible vocal. It doesn't matter that you can't understand it - it just adds to the atmosphere of the piece. It's good - reminds me of loads of things that I can't think of at the moment. None of them Polish.....

Regards to your friend, Mikali. Nice voice and cadence... [ Reply to This ]
There's something about ... &mdash 01/02/08 - 06:20:52 PM
... poetry in a language you don't understand. Maybe it's that there's no expectation of following what it means, and just listening to the sounds?
Great bed here - very cool, very German movie soundtrack feel.
Like it a lot!

HI
love the driving beat and it really draws you in. The poem in a different language also makes this feel very sensuous . The different effects and the pulsating beat , the piano sounds really melodic too.
Thanks for sharing

Love the loping organ sound of this one. Reminds me of a techno artist called Robert Hood - very understated. The poem fits right in nicely. Good work. [ Reply to This ]

Wow - I'm totally late to the party here, but this is an AMAZING project, very successfully pulled off. Thanks for giving the info - the words are so cool, however accurate they are re: translation - who cares? - it all goes together seamlessly. You're really talented - I need to go hear more of your music RIGHT NOW! Thanks [ Reply to This ]
