Has a medievial feel to this, I wish you would more in this vein,

It's time for a new genre don't you think? &mdash 12/30/07 - 01:11:57 PM
I vote for Smokeyphonic. I've heard many fine examples of the genre lately and would be proud to work in that vein.

i have unfortunately been using Other quite often, and it feels like a cheat. for the really strange stuff, there is always Experimental.

someone here mentioned the idea of "genre clouds" where you could claim a song has for example 35% Medieval and 65% Trance. that would suit me fine.

thanks

Never before I heard a song that starts out madrigal and becomes disco somehow. I sense a core sadness here. Don't worry. It will all work out.

gee, i thought this was rather upbeat actually.

thank you

Wow! &mdash 12/30/07 - 03:29:12 PM
I love the way you move styles in this.

Medieval to trance.

Excellent :-)

Cheers

while was developing this at one point i had a stack of layers with the medieval and trance stuff all playing together all at once. in the process of mixing/arranging they got mostly separated again - the oboe part never actually plays over most of the trance components in the final mix.

thanks

Love the &mdash 12/30/07 - 06:15:56 PM
way this builds so skillfully as you say from desperation to ecstasy.
Cheers

it also falls back to desperation at the end.

maybe this is a story:

1. early Saturday evening. lonely person alone at home.
2. friends drop by. they all go out to party at the disco.
3. early Sunday morning. lonely person alone at home.

thanks

from the dark ages to the bright strobing disco lights. nice reprise at the end. really cool idea to blend two different musical styles. works for me!

one minute I'm with my maiden faire on a white horse in a moor, the next: I'm tearing off my shirt and getting sweaty in a club. i love how you just make up your own rules. this sounds great.

so cool - that we can each expose a bit of our souls - in this medium called music

this tune is my current auto-fave (is that immoral?)

i just really really needed to hear this thing - that is what is great, so great about GB - you can create your aural fantasies with it

thanks

Dude are you &mdash 12/31/07 - 08:44:08 PM
Cutin some records in here or is that a loop . Very interesting and fascinating journey you take us on Smoke V-Dub . I really like the bass and the way the sounds are all playing together . Great choir sound as well ! How did you get the choir sound to sound so good ? ...Nice !

happy new year

this is one of the most loop-free things i've done. just two GB loops in here i think - a drum loop and a guitar loop. i have been slowly but surely getting away from the loops and doing my own thing...

all my best for the new year

Well &mdash 12/31/07 - 10:50:09 PM
are you scratchin a record in there ? Sounds cool man!

[ Reply to This ]
. &mdash 01/03/08 - 09:32:13 PM
no, no. no scratching by me. one of the drum kits in the GB remix jampack has a bunch of scratching samples and vocals in it. i used that. it's kinda funny what it sounds like he's saying in there - but it's only the mix of "Oh" and a cymbal and a click sound :-)

thanks

This is what I called an awesome tune! So much creativity going on. You did an excellent job bringing it all together. Really enjoyed this.

i had lots of fun mixing this one - especially when everything just sort of snapped into place while i was working on the final pacing of when to bring in each part.

thank you

This is NOT 'Other'... &mdash 01/06/08 - 12:36:52 PM
...and it's NOT strange or anything like strange...

What it is, is simple, with a very pretty and singable melody... If it had words, it could be anything it wanted to be, from a folk song to a choral piece...

Okay, I raise an eyebrow when the handclaps come in, but I really like the way the bass arrives, and a like the arpeggiating piano there toward the middle...

Has a bit of that Pachelbel Canon-ish "hey, we could play this forever" sort of feeling, which places it squarely on the musical map between 'classical' and 'jam band'...

Nice to come back to the melody at the end...

This would be fun to play guitar over...

Ed

i don't think this particular song is strange (it would have gone to Experimental in that case)

however, what genre do you suppose it is? i couldn't decide, so it got Other.

thanks for dropping by!
