Description
Matt M. and I originally wrote and recorded this years and years ago, Matt: the lyrics, me: the music. I just decided to take a shot at re-recording it. It's a straight up rocker with lyrics that don't make you think too hard (sorry Matt), and at 2:30 not a huge time investment either. It's simple, with 2 guitars, bass, drums, a lead vocal and 2 backing vocals. I did everything on this one. Hope you like. Constructive criticism welcome, as always.

Nothing like striaght forward rockin. This sounds real live, like your jammin with a bunch of your buddies havin fun. I could just picture seeing this played in some small club. Funny that the lyrics keep repeating all alone

all alone
Hey Ego,

I actually did play this at a small club once in Manhattan---on acoustic at an open mic, all alone. Quite a different sound played that way I assure you.

Cheers

Pretty good
Hi Philip... I like it. Short and catchy. Maybe a bit dry in the mix? I know if you make electrics too wet they get all muddy... maybe more on the vocals side... just a thought :)

wet
Hey Aaron,
Thanks for poppin' in. Yeah I tried everything on the vox and if I made them wetter they got all sloppy sounding (no pun intended...really) It may be simple but I had a hard time mixing this one and when things get tough, the first thing to go is reverb.

great riff with a lot of adeneline surging. I would pretty much say what Z.H. says, a killer bar band opener.

This is amazing
Easy to characterize it as a straight ahead rocker, but let's face it, it's not that easy to do this as well as this! (Does that make sense?) Anyway, great track. Love the guitar sounds, and especially the solo. Drums have a good sound. (If I was going to nitpick on the recording, I'd say the cymbals sound a bit harsh, but like I say, just a nit...) This rocks. Outstanding. Great way to kick the new year into life. Nice one. Peace.

drums
I used BFD drums for this that a pal from the UK who shall remain nameless gave me. It has been an uphill battle learning how to use them well, they aren't too intuitive. Thanks for the comment on the cymbals. I actually had cut them back already, the crash was very harsh and sharp, maybe I need to go back and give it another listen.

YEAH!!!
I just had to give this 10's for "Writing"!

Great open, loose sound; plenty of energy; what's not to like?
Gonna be a big year, I think.

All together!
All killer, no filler - I freakin love this, it starts, gets its teeth into you, and doesnt let up til the very end. Guitar sounds ace, your vocal is excellent (Grrreat harmonies) and the whole mix really sparkles - a great rocker! First day back at work, and this really shook me awake this morning!

Hey Bob, Thanks for the listen as usual! Now that I have seen your ugly mug in person on video, I have a whole new appreciation for your avatar. Did you paint that one? It's great, and totally captures you....the real you that is....the twisted you.

Twisted
You've seen my ugly mug in person on video and now on canvas on the internet. Yes, it is the real me and yes, I'm rather twisted.

Funny how the expression "birds of a feather" suddenly comes to mind...

Yep...
...god start to the new year. Hopefully we'll have more stripped down rockers like this over the coming months. It's all well and good having a symphony orchestra in a box but if you can get creative with just the good old Guitar, Bass Drums & Vocals line up then you're onto a winner.

Solid song, well made.

You Could Slip This Into...
a *Best of GarageBand Rock* compilation and I'm not sure anyone would be any the wiser.

The only thing I might do differently is keep the vocal solo in the first part and then add harmonies as it progresses.

Cool, straight-ahead rocker. ;)

good one
Joe,
Thanks for the suggestion. I am not really satisfied yet with the vocals on this. It may be a simple tune, but it was a hard one to mix. I like the idea of bringing the harmonies in later and/or gradually. They are a little too ever-present. Thanks for the idea!

Thanks Mark. I really don't usually fiddle with timing changes, but that is how I wrote this tune many moons ago, so I had to go with it. Your new song "Alman/balld/Jig" is beautiful. Nice work. It's always nice to get a comment you.

Grinning
...stuff like this reminds me why we pick up guitars in the first place. Worth pulling over and cracking up the volume to shake the windows loose for!

Love the pulse and loose, exuberant energy just bouncing off the walls. Simple, clean rock is difficult to get to sound 'right' but this sounds like a cold beer, ashtrays shaking on the bar and a girl in a leather vest asking if I want another round. You betcha!

painting the picture
Man, your description makes me want to be 18 and do all those foggy nights in bar bands all over again. I've always said that playing distorted guitar is like driving a sports car reeeeeally fast, without the shattered glass, twisted steel and blood part.

Sweet
This song has a great raw live feel to it. I really like the bass sound. My only gripe is that the crash cymbals sound a little harsh. I shouldn't of listened to this song before I went to bed. I feel sort of revitalized now and feel like I should be working at a frantic pace or something. Great mix and production as always!

Thanx 8pis,
Sorry to have kept you up! Noted on the cymbals, I agree, there are a bunch of things I addressed in a remix after I posted this, but I haven't wanted to lose my comments to repost the new one. I also pulled back the backing vox a lot, they are way to prevalent. But, glad to hear your constructive crit as always.
