Description:
Portishead meets Built to Spill by way of I Want You (She's So Heavy). sort of. a chorus-less song about trying to quit anything that isn't good for you. sort of. it's really just an excuse to play wah wah guitar!
Lyrics:
it's automatic - and out of control - purrs like a kitten but without a soulautomated meager demands - you want to hold it but it's out of your hands
happiness is happenstance - and when it walks it does a nasty dance
it's tongue is twisted - so hard to tweak - you want to chase it but you don't have the cheek
you don't have the cheek - and it's so hard to speak
percolating - won't come to a boil - feeling dirty but without the soil
oscillating - unable to quit - you want to change it but you're scared to commit
you're scared to commit - it's so hard to quit......

This is an incredible tune. I didn't miss not having a bridge at all! The vocal is so slinky and sneaky sounding, it really hit the spot. The guitar harmonies are killer and the wah guitar lead was awesome. Production flawless as usual. Fav'd and D/L'd. Thanks.

Tight mix, great lyrics, great guitar, 10's all the way my friend, and I don't give them out lightly either.
Direct download, but of course all I got when I downloaded it was about 27 bytes of nothing. I'll try that again later.
Kudos Brian for a song the touches a nerve and take you along for the ride. This could get addictive man.

Primal screams and all. lol
Lots of Beatles feels and touches in here on the harmony guitar parts, with the wah lead adding an interesting touch.
Thematically, it reminded me a bit of *I'm So Tired* of the White Album.
Nicely done on all levels. ;)

I love I'm So Tired _ I'm flattered by the comparison, for sure. thanks for listening

i picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.
love this freaking song!
stellar performance on every level and it just kept getting better and better as it went on. love the bass slides in the outro jam especially. Fantasic!!!
Brian D
that's a good one! don't sniff glue! I was hooked on Elmer's for years - just kidding.
I was emulating I Want You (She's So Heavy) on the bass slides. thanks for listening

My God, Brian! Unbelievable song. This song has a swagger to it that is amazing. . .when you break into the "so hard to quit" for the first time it is magical---magical I tell you! :-)

Lovely sound, and great playing. The guitar sounds great, and the lyrics are smart, provocative, and humorous. Vocal sound is good, and the performance is very good. Love the lead! Very nice work. Kudos. Peace.

Brian D

I can't help myself with the Beatle bits! It's in me blood. thanks for listening!

Nice thumpy bass. Like the darkness at the start, followed by a way cool break (The guitar!)
Brian you're really good.

Built to Spill.. most excellent band. So you had my attention before the song started playing.
Excellent groove- so much to like and me without a clue where to begin. Ah hell, great song in every regard! Make more!
Brian D
yes, I love Built To Spill. no one plays gnarly wah wah like Doug Martsch (these days, anyway) thanks for listening!

wasn't working yesterday and I knew you had a new song. I was having really bad withdrawal symptoms from that.
I didn't think it was possible for your songs/production to get any better - and then there is this.
Just listened three times straight - Brian this is gorgeous, I am in love with it. Someone said above 'magical' - I think that sums it up.
Cheers
Len
Brian D
thanks, Len. I'm glad you like it. it's sort of different for me. I pretended to be a guitar hero (with lots of mugging in the mirror)!
cheers!

I like the keyboards in my right ear. Great set of chords going on in there.
Personally would have liked your vocals a bit more up in the mix but apart from that it's great. A slight Mott the Hoople vibe going on at the end..or is it just me?? Good work
Brian D
I could make them louder. I usually ride them high, but I wanted to be murky here. I love Mott The Hoople, but it wasn't my intention here. I guess it all comes out whether we know it or not! thanks for listening!

...why do I want a cigarette, now? Been so long...
Wah sounds great....excuses or none...
Brian D
mmm. cigarettes.......no, I gave them up!
thanks for listening!

a lot of tug and pull that adds drama. I am hearing some white album reference in style at times. excellent piece!
echoroom
This is a musical oddity - but a killer track. Truely original but catchy and polished - when the guitar kicks in, it REALLY kicks. Most excellent.
rsorensen
glad i clicked on this one. awesome track! the structure reminds me a little of one of my favorite bands, muse. great singing, guitar playing, writing... everything! Nice work man!
drakonis
sssweeeet, sultry, seductive, just plain sibilant. Intriguing overall sound here, reminds me a teeny bit of a downtempo David Bowie almost... with a hint of a Beatles-like powerful pop-tune underneath (on the order of "Hey Jude")... and some chewy enigmatic lyrics, great singing, just about PERFECT orchestration. This is a really great piece of music all around.
Nasty nice, gets under your skin, bores into your skull... just my style.

this is amazing.Just a perfect song.Great guitar playing.Awesome vocals.Does remind me of "I Want You"- the riff is so good I could listen to it repeat for another 5 minutes!

I am sooo a fan of yours now!! This also has a Bowie flavor to it. I love this tune!!!
Bob6stringer
Hey - I finally found someone else who used "happenstance" in a song! (Now you have to use "hyrdostatic" and we'll be even!) Seriously, another fine one I can't help but compliment you on. Brian May meets Terry Kath (and 10cc?!) on those electric leads?! Well, maybe or not, a great, dynamic touch. And your vocal just doesn't get better. Damn, I need to DL this one too!
