Description:
This is my tribute to Queensland beaches.
Lyrics:
I look around, this is just like I remember
Never lets me down, I hope it's like this forever
There's something about the sun
There's something about the ocean
The tide will always run
And so will you if you run with me
The books write themselves, and we all live in the stories
Another magic day, I love the smell of the morning
I watch you go down, I feel the salt in your eyes
I muck around, I feel the heat from the skies
There's something about the sun
There's something about the ocean
The tide will always run
And so will you if you run with me
There's something about the sun
There's something about the ocean
The waves will always come
And so will you if you come with me

You make it all sound so easy... In one song, you're a
guitarist, singer, bassist, horn player, and drummer. And
it's all so outrageously good. I can hear so many
influences in this, but I won't try to compare because
you're in a class all your own. Great work. No--Brilliant
Work! (jumping on the SGF Brilliant Bandwagon) :)

OH...by the way... &mdash 09/19/04 - 09:36:54 PM
I don't think this fits well into the "Soft Rock/Adult" genre. There's nothing
soft about this! This is a jam! [ Reply to This ]
Niiice horns &mdash 09/20/04 - 08:43:34 AM
another cool track, and the horns lift it from being a litle
bit melancholy to being pretty sweet! Great to listen to.
You now have your own playlist on my ipod, and some
fans in those that have listened to it. Go nolan! [ Reply to This ]

Very smart, well-produced pop tune. Better than 3/4 of
the stuff that people actually pay to hear! Keep it up! [ Reply to This ]

Enjoyed this, kinda Widespread Panic w/ a pinch of Janes Addiction. Just a pinch. Probably get some arguments there, but oh well. Are those standard GB horn loops or from somewhere else? [ Reply to This ]
It gets better with every listen... &mdash 09/21/04 - 08:28:43 PM
Great drum choice! Nice use of horns. Love the guitar
solo. Couldn't be happier with the beginning of the
song...except still not too sure about the echoey effect of
the voice, but it's starting to grow on me with each listen.
I could almost have this song speed up a couple of
tempos (I think the gritty guitar could handle it,
sometimes it sounds a tad draggy).
I'm on my fourth listen now, and I'm loving it! You should
be really proud of this production. It's refreshing to hear
a non-sappy song that has such substance. This is going
on the iPod for sure. Well done Nolan. [ Reply to This ]
well done! &mdash 09/22/04 - 09:45:29 AM
Everything fits together amazingly well in this tune.
There's a lot going on but you've balanced the various
elements very tastefully. It would be very easy to
"overproduce" a track like this, but you have managed to
keep it simple and well-balanced.
Nice use of horns. I also like your little drum breaks and
guitar flourishes.
Excellent vocals, too. You have a unique style, very
pleasant to listen to. Your use of echo was also very
effective in its restraint (it can be easily over-used).
Very professional in every respect. Bravo! [ Reply to This ]

8-8-7-8. This song got me singing with you, man! It's
rock but it has pop appeal to it, and yeah, it has energy,
solar energy! Made me feel like I was in California. [ Reply to This ]

aah the beach... &mdash 11/28/04 - 03:15:44 PM
I love it...warmed up an otherwise cold English winter's
night. Then again...I'm remembering those HOT Brisbane
days too! [ Reply to This ]
Nolan, this rocks to heaven and back! &mdash 01/28/06 - 04:43:24 PM
Love the raw, chunky rhythm guitar against the horn stabs, and then
the clean guitar chords that break out of it...
Your vocals are spot perfect, again. Ronnie's right about the Bono
sound in the vocal, but putting this in context with your OTHER vocals,
and your other abilities, you really do have that Neil Finn/Paul
McCartney/Bono flair for melody and singing... you could also get into
that sort of wry Aimee Mann or Elvis Costello territory...
You're doing some amazing tunes with that itty bitty equipment list...
