Description:
This is the first public mix of a classical/cinematic soundtrack piece of music.
The reason that I've uploaded this in such a rough state is to ask for feedback, from any angle, good or not so good.
The voices and instruments are ALL synthesized, using soundfonts for the voices and soft synth plugins for the instruments.
All was put together using energyXT2.

If it's not too obvious the 10cc mix reference is to 'I'm not in love' by the group, in either 1975/76.

Please let me know what you think. I value and respect all opinions.

The story of the movie is that this is the backign track for Act I Scene III. The movie is about young adults going to war, their call up, training (Scene I), the deployment and action (Scene II) and the effect on their loved one's back home (Scene III). This third scene is by a sea shore, one evening, as the tide comes in, and the waves continually moving the 'one left behind' further up the beach and as you can imagine, the news they are thinking about is not so good.

Impressive sound for these soundfonts ..
its very dreamy and yes it hold some spacy
feelings .some sunset colors here maybe if
I watched the scene it will be more clear
what its all about ..but as music its nice
thnx for sharin ...( I thought lil drums or
percussions would give more taste after the
middle part) ...!

i don't think it's too 10cc (washey yes, derivative no). i like the choices you made for instrumentation. halfway through is a really nice change, where things get a little more sparse and then pick up again. that's a really nice touch. this one is a little more melodic than some of your stuff, keep hearing a little hint of a melody coming in and out of the mix, is there something there or am i imagining it? the voices at the end are really appropriate. what kind of soundfonts are you using? i have been trying to find good .sf2 for the last week. i did find a mellotron choir and a boys choir (say the word know and i'll send them your way). anyways, another excellent post Paul.

You're correct about the 'melody'. The preset I chose as a base, on WOF-3, was called Morgana's Tears, and it struck me straight away that with the correct instruments playing the different parts, the highly melodic components would stand out more. This is a change from my more backdrop/ambient offerings, that tend to generally blend together into a 'wash' of sounds.
I have hundreds of sound fonts, collected/bought over 7 or 8 years. I'll drop you a note of where I obtain most of mine from. I have used them very often in my mixes over the last year or so. Some are extremely high quality.
This mix had 3 separate choir/voice sf's and a cello sf if I remember correctly.

The spacey effect was part of my post production mix. I just play around with settings until something steps out to me, and then go with that as the last mix. Sometimes it helps keep the original ambiance/idea of the piece and sometimes it adds other under-/overtones.

quality......reminds me a bit of the track"12:18" by global communication...but yours is much more sonically complex and has more movement.....!

I'll have to give global communications a listen. I have never heard of them, so I'll look forward to some new stimulation.

I'm glad that you appreciated what I tried to do with the mix.

Hopefully my next installment will be better, or at least different in a positive way.
