Description:
This is a few years old. My first song recorded with GB.
I like the song but I'm not completely happy with the mix. The guitar is slightly out of tune and the solo was just made up on the spot and just haven't got around to re doing it.
Thought I would let you guys here it anyway as I'm interested to hear what you all think.

Lyrics:
The lyrics are not great and I'm not sure what the song is about. Needed some words so just wrote them down in about 10 minutes...

You keep your secrets up your sleeve, I see through,
How do you breathe the air you breathe, With what you do to
play around with your life like it's a toy, and then hold out your hand
You keep your secrets up your sleeve, I see through...

All your games and all your pitiful lies,
It gets you nothing
Take your prisoners then ignore their cries,
You take it too far
Breaking down doors and breaking down walls.
Turn the key ignore their calls.
All your games and all your pitiful lies,

You keep your secrets up your sleeve, I see through,
How do you breathe the air you breathe,
I can't see how you place yourself into someone elses head,
and then they take a fall.
You keep your secrets up your sleeve, I see through...

(Chorus)

You keep your secrets up your sleeve,
You keep your secrets up your sleeve, I see through,

actually pretty nice &mdash 01/10/08 - 08:52:53 PM
the song has all the potential of great tune.

If you are going to redo it. If you don't mind I would suggest doubling the rhythm guitars hard right and hard left. center the bass a bit more, and maybe double vocals on the chorus. Really like the tune!

Nice pop/rock tune .. &mdash 01/11/08 - 06:52:17 AM
..well put together/arranged. Guitar and bass are well played and sound good .. and I think your singing was good too. I think like Vic that the post production lets this down a little: not mix level wise though (solo could be brought out a little), not keen on the bass in the R countering delayed guitar in L - I'd try the duplicating and even panning but at different places in the stereo field from other voices. Vocals sounding very home room recorded/ambience on these phones to be honest... the verses are very well sung good (more comfortable range), the chorus 'jump' might need a touch more compression etc or some different treating... perhaps also some harmonies. Go on, lets have the lyrics then .. :o)

Hey AJ Love your sound &mdash 01/11/08 - 10:21:18 AM
The best songs are written in 10 minutes. I think John Lennon said something like that. Love your sound. Yeah, there may be some production issues here. I actually liked the lyrics and the solo.
I'll be looking out for more from you, mate.

Saw you in a forum, that's how I saw your name.

Cheers,
Dave

Another really strong song... &mdash 01/12/08 - 10:25:30 AM
And I persist in hearing a Neil Young and, yes, an REM influence in the structure and guitar work...

You can take this as far as you want to go with it, really.

I love the clean guitar in the left channel that comes back in after the chorus...

I think that once again I would love to have a higher overall level on the mix. I think the distorted chording guitar that comes in from time to time would benefit from a different distortion setting...

I think your singing is great, and would benefit from just messing around with different compression and reverb settings....

But with all that said, you have strong songs, strong guitar abilities, and a strong voice, so the basics are all there...

I'll bet it would be interesting to re-do this as best you can and then have another MacJammer such as Vic Holman or jiguma try a mix from their perspective... Just to see what the possibilities are...

Ya! &mdash 01/14/08 - 02:30:27 PM
Every time I hear this the words "Radio Play" keeps poppin it my head. I agree with Apb and Ejh. VERY strong song here. Just some mixing and production issues.

My advice for the guitars would be to PLAY an identical take of each guitar track with a SLIGHTLY different sound or tone, possibly a stereo track. It will help achieve that "lack of volume issue" that you have been working on. It also will add, what I call a "widening" effect to the guitars and add to the overall production of the piece.

This is a GREAT song. Your talent and abilities are to be reckoned with.
Chris

I think &mdash 01/17/08 - 10:50:44 AM
this is a good song and your lyrics are fine; sometimes what comes in a flash is 'inspired' and maybe that happened here. Again I think your playing is excellent, along with your nice clear vocals, but I'd take the advice of others too regarding the technical side i.e. mixing etc, regards M
