Description:
I'm not sure what genre this belongs under...

I *do* know that I'm too embarrassed to even say how long I've had Mcboy's original instrumental MP3 in one of my "someday" folders...
Even if I could remember....I'll just say that it's been a very long time in coming!

And it's not because the song didn't inspire me. I knew from the start it was going to be wistful and blue...it just needed to come about slowly.

So, now it's aged....hopefully, well.

Thanks so much, Mcboy, for being so generous with your talents. It's a great pleasure singing to your beautiful guitar work! :)

Guitar instrumental: Mcboy
Violins, 'Fitch Cello,' lyrics and vocals: Mystified

Lyrics:
You'll never know the things you'll miss...
A smile, a glance, a sigh.
You'll never hear those uttered words
As time moves swiftly by.

You'll never share the moments sweet
I planned for you and me.
And thoughts of you are shades of blue
And distant memories.

Another's kiss will spark my dreams,
As dreams begin anew
For thoughts of you are shades of blue
And now just memories....

Very Mediterranean. Now if you'll excuse me, I suddenly have an urge for a falafel to eat on a shoreline.

You played it for her, you can play it for me... &mdash 01/10/08 - 07:23:03 AM
Of all the music sites on all the servers in all the world, she has to walk into mine...

Of course, now someone out there in cyberspace is going to have to write the noir screenplay to frame this, and film it in black and white...

Now if you'll excuse ME, I suddenly have an urge to round up the usual suspects...

worth the wait &mdash 01/10/08 - 01:48:56 PM
When working on collabs I usually find myself working a little harder to deliver the goods. I guess that might have had something to do with you having this on hold for a while... waiting for the right moment and inspiration to arrive for being able to put your best into it. And you certainly have:) Beautiful work from the both of you!

Sweet collab &mdash 01/10/08 - 03:40:38 PM
It's so tastefully constructed, performed and written that it hits you like a ton of bricks. Such depth to the emotion that comes from the vocals and guitar. Fantastic!!

Time now to get into my Citroen and drive down the coast from Nice to Cannes with this on the stereo...

Many thanks,
Doug

You Know... &mdash 01/10/08 - 06:14:34 PM
The guitar has a mediteranean/Italian feel to it and so does the song, too bad you dont sing in italian, very nice nevertheless. Good job to both of you!

Great, seamless match &mdash 01/11/08 - 06:25:48 AM
between music and words. The guitar tone and playing is beautiful, and the singing works perfectly, adding to the mood of the music. Some nice lines in there ("another's kiss will spark my dreams" is a great line) and outstanding vocal performance. Nicely done. Congrats to both of you. Peace.

I always love soulful, floating &mdash 01/11/08 - 07:18:24 AM
songs...and this sweeps me away..low down and so sweetly torch & jazzy.
It also carried me away waiting for the titles to roll. If there is a movie that goes with this it will be a oscar winner.

Love this .. &mdash 01/11/08 - 03:25:22 PM

.. I really like how a touch of "The Call of Ktulu" drifted into a romantic bit in a Bond film.. complete with diva .. set in the Med., sunset, beach walks ..

This is all top quality: playing, singing in that timeless tradition.

Nice touch to end on E Major Sharp 11th Flat 9th Suspended 2nd ... 8oO ..some people say that's overly used but ..not me.. pfft ..lol ;o)

Excellent collab you two. Encore!

... of those lovely movies of the 60's and 70's where lovers frolicked on the beaches of Italy and then the next thing you knew ... they were somewhere in the south of france sipping coffee at a little outdoor cafe .... ok I started typing this before I read all the other comments ... just proves my point ... this could also be on a James Bond Movie .... beautiful vocals as usual Mysti and McBoys guitar needs no further comment from me ... fab!

wistful &mdash 01/13/08 - 01:52:01 AM
Cat and Mcboy, this is a haunting performance that complements both of your talents. It sounds like the vocal interpreting the sadness of the guitar, or perhaps the other way around. It creates a strong impression of memories, regret, yearning, melancholy. Well done

beautifully done &mdash 01/13/08 - 01:39:39 PM
comes together very nicely in all shades.

cellos always seem to work with slow acoustic tunes. Ah, come to think of it I just added one on a slow acoustic track last night. I might have to change that, so as not to appear as a johnny come lately

polished, with lots of heart &mdash 01/13/08 - 09:52:20 PM
It's hard to believe that McBoy's wonderful guitar part came long before you added the vocals and background instruments, because this sounds so INTEGRATED and spontaneous, as though everything came together at the same time.

No small feat, this.

Your voice is in fine form as it always is -- even finer, perhaps. The vocals are well-polished and you shape your phrases skillfully.

The lyrics match the guitar's sultry mood perfectly, and your handling of the strings and Fitch cello (the latter is definitely a challenge to make sound good!) is superb. Very nice balance and recording quality.

I would say that this has "aged" extremely well.

Beautiful song! Both of you did a wonderful job here. I imagine sitting with a crowd anticipating what the song will sound like. The guitar starts and suddenly everyone hushes. Then your voice comes across and the only noise in the room is this beauty! Really enjoyed this alot. Terrific job of collaberation! When is the tour starting?

reflective &mdash 01/14/08 - 01:43:57 PM
and sad. But not the sentimental kind. It's the painful kind. The kind of sad that wakes you at 4:26AM with tears in your eyes and an aching in your heart. Been there. I don't know, but I hope I'm not the only one who hears the ache in this. It's beautiful and serene, yes, but if you had a different image up there, these hints of sadness would probably be more apparent. That's what's great about you, Cat... Your music oozes with passion. (and big Kudos to Mcboy for his delicious finger-stylings.)

beautiful &mdash 01/15/08 - 08:28:25 AM
.................and sad. Hard to say goodbye to those possibilites.

Very touching and your voice adds so, so much to it's yearning and unwelcome departure of what had so much potential.

You helped me feel these lyrics, especially helpful with the background bed of delicate fingering of McBoy, on those nylon strings.

I will always be a sucker for Mysti's voice &mdash 01/15/08 - 09:23:33 PM
always !

What more could one want than mcboys beautiful guitar playing to back such a lovely, lovely voice!

Love the Antonio Carlos Jobim feel.

Love how this tune starts out, Those rich textured strings sounds.
Love how Mysti sings the word "me", has that Karen Carpenter sound. I am a nut for single notes and how incredibly powerful they can be.

Way to go!

Have to check your old stuff out, too. Beautiful voice. Really. I know this seems funny to say, it kind of reminds me of a James Bond theme song, that would break into a big production. But, I really like the way it is. Love the use of strings, gives it a romantic feel.
Your new fan.

Mysti meets Mcboy...
...how can that fail?

Judging by this - it can't.

Beautiful chords and progression and great singing. I also really like the subtle strings in the background.

Very beautiful.

wow what a wonderful combination.! a whole lot of moving feeling. I was disturbed by the post intro guitar. the intro was good with the lower sounds and the guitar is really hot all the way through, except right at first. I think because it was so abrupt.. anyway I think a gradual fade in of the extemely good picking might be a better transition with your voice intro as it seems to distract from it.

anyway my two bits for what they are worth.
