Description:
A funny old song, The Crawdad Song, has something to do with this song, but this is more about global warming than crawdads and so I took out the reference to crawdads. I had another version of this that I created in GB a while back but everything being replaced in LE8, so this qualifies as a new song. New vocal, new banjo, new mando, new Ultrabeat.

Lyrics:
"Boom"

It's time....and them boom
it's time....
Get up old man you slept too late honey
get up old man you slept too late baby
get up old man you slept too late
Last piece is on your plate
honey sugar baby mine

Get up old woman you slept too late honey
get up old woman you slept too late baby
get up old woman you slept too late
That man just passed your gate
honey sugar baby mine

Along come a man with a sack on his back, honey
'long come a man with a sack on his back, baby
'long come a man with a sack on his back
He's packin' all he can pack
honey sugar baby mine

What you gonna do when the lake goes dry, honey
What you gonna do when the lake goes dry, baby
What you gonna do when the lake goes dry
Sit on the bank and watch them die?
honey sugar baby mine

Hardware:
banjo, mandolin, computer, mic

Software:
LE8

.. first MJ track heard on my new Sennheiser HD280 Pro phones - and a fitting first it is too.

Your usual excellent sounds in a style I love listening to but could never pull off myself - due to accent factors :)

Top post!
Neil

Sounds like &mdash 01/11/08 - 01:25:37 AM
You have a pretty good handle on L8 yourself Jim. This is very well done!
I'm sticking to the crawdad theme though in my mind. They'll be in season before long and I will have a sack on my back. This song made my mouth water just thinking about it.

Excellent

If not mistaken &mdash 01/11/08 - 11:04:02 PM
I swear I remember the previous version of this. To me this is the quintessential example if the "Jim Bouchard Sound". Very down home sound and vibe and really an excellent recording and performance.

Jim- you do so much so well, but to me to this style really is your sweet spot. You hit it dead center and about 450 feet.

country folk &mdash 01/12/08 - 03:03:45 AM
bluesy and folksy.. reminds me of the rugged terrains and the buffaloes roaming free.. very western with a liberating atmosphere. Although the lyrics seem to suggest some love tension, i sense a different atmosphere in it .. I love the all-american male voice,, it has a tone that carries the western and country essence of being wild and free..

Lots of wonderful elements you've got cookin'here and especially like your vocal work and those silky banjo riffs. My pleasure and enjoyment from this post has not exceeded federally mandated carbon emission standards.

Blessings,

i like the banjo here, so perfect and so non-traditional. makes me want to get one. that burbling bass part is what's really holding the whole thing together for me. great job.

love it! &mdash 01/14/08 - 10:40:04 AM
I love the message, the arrangement is strange and inviting, and your vocals are gorgeous as always.

(I love that slurping sound at the end!!)

Wow.... &mdash 01/21/08 - 10:51:14 AM
.....Jim - that first low note nearly gave me a fit of the collywobbles. What a great sound. This is a super production. Everything is so clear and rich, and you create some great space - you always seem to. Love the banjo playing and a fine vocal performance.

Sheeesh, enough already! It's good Ok?

Nice feel to this...a bit of a Nick Cave/Triffids feel to it. I like the vocal performance a lot

I slept too late &mdash 01/28/08 - 01:36:20 PM
I'm a little late to this. Great sound. Pure and full. Deep and rich. Actually reminds me a little like Dylan lyrically, ya know?

Cool stuff, brother

great song jim! &mdash 02/04/08 - 08:32:00 AM
and as everyone had already said, your vocals are simply fan tas tic!
the entire sound of the song is brilliant. i love the banjo, it really works for me :)
but what i praise the most is the lightness of the sound. the... airiness. it doesn't sound like a heavy thick brick of sound hitting me in my head :)
listening to it again and... yes... the banjo is a caramel sweet with a hazelnut filling (my favorit candy of all times!!!!)
brilliant! :)

Traditional lyrics? &mdash 02/27/08 - 08:35:38 PM
This seems to be some kind of variation on an old traditional bluegrass/mountain theme, right? The Meat Purveyors' "Crawdad Song" uses "honey, baby, mine," talking about the well running dry, and similar verses. But I can't seem to find the origin. Anyway, nice twisted tribute to whatever thread you're pulling from who knows when.
