Description
A few years ago, I saw Richard Thompson perform live. His CDs are impressive, but live is where he really shines, as any true RT fan will tell you. I was so taken with watching his fingers across the fretboard (I had a really good seat) that I told my wife, "I have to learn how he's doing that." Fortunately, he has written a few books on his guitar method and my loving wife bought me one of these books for my birthday that year. Dargai is a traditional Scottish bagpipe tune rearranged for a guitar in drop-D tuning. RT recorded it on "Pour Down Like Silver." In introducing the song, he tells his students that it's an easy song to learn. Having spent already several months trying to learn RT's version of Davey Graham's arrangement of "Banish Misfortune," I switched to Dargai. I've been playing it for about a year or two now, trying to make it my own. It has become my piece to play whenever someone hands me a guitar and says, "Play something," and I don't have anything else in mind. Since it's looking like I won't finish 52 songs by the end of this month, as per my original goal, I'll end the set with this one. http//web.mac.com/...
