Description
This is a song about lovers and their need to fall into each others arms.

It's a duet that TurquoiseRose (Olivia Francis) from iCompositions and I have been working on for about a month. It's based on an old song of mine, but one that never sounded this good. Thank T R for the help with the lyrics and your beautiful vocals. Your Aces kid.

Verse
Whenever I'm angry, and hurting inside,
And my troubles are getting me down ( oh yeah )
When the pain’s so heavy, I feel I could die, ( Ah huh )
I turn to my baby and say, ( what da ya say )

Chorus:
Baby lie down beside me, and love me once again
Your lovin' , helps me hang on, ( Oh Yeah )
Lie down beside me, hold me in your arms, ( oo oo )
You're the shelter I need from the storm. ( Oh yeah )
Yeah shelter from the storm - Baby

Verse
( Ooo Ooo )
You are the strong one when my heart is blue
If I'm weak your strength sees me through
When I feel burdened and nothin'- seems real
I turn to my baby and say

Chorus:
Baby lie down beside me, and love me again
Cause your lovin' , helps me hang on
Baby lie down beside me, and hold me in your arms
You're the shelter I need from the storm.
Shelter from the storm - Baby

Bridge:
I don't know what I'd do without you Babe
When life makes no sense, at all
Where ever you are is where I belong
With you beside me, my heart is home

Chorus
Baby Lie down beside me, love me once again
Your lovin' , helps me hang on, ( Oh Yeah )
Yeah lie down beside me, hold me in your arms
You're the shelter I need from the storm.

Chorus
Yeah lie down beside me, love me once again
Your lovin' , helps me hang on
Yeah lie down beside me, and hold me in your arms
You're the shelter I need from the storm.

Hey there Charlie
So good to see you here my friend.

For those of you wondering who this is, this is the man I owe all of my recording and song writing skills to. I wrote a song about some of his escapades when he was a working musician a long time ago, and posted it here last year. It's call "Undiscovered Hero" The song doesn't do him justice because it was a very early attempt at producing my own stuff. But my heart was in the right place.

So thanks for everything Charlie, your the best friend I've ever had. Glad we finally reconnected after all these years.

Be well my good and dear friend.

Welcome to MacJams BridgeCreek
I used to live in the Portland area up until April of 2005, in Tillamook as a matter of fact. And before that I lived in Forest Grove where I did some gigs in a duo act called Scott and Walker around that area. I wish all of you great success with you upcoming season and you recording sessions you have planned.

Thank you from both of us for the kind words, they are appreciated. We worked hard on this one and the encouragement of you words spurs us on to do more and hopefully better works in the future.

Thanks again and be well my new found friends.

Well Maurice there's a reason this is my best yet. I had Olivia there to add to the song in a big way. She is such a great singer, I didn't want to do anything that would take away from her reputation, so we pulled out all the stops and went for it.
I found a kindred spirit in Olivia while we were in the process of working on this and I hope to do many more songs with her as time goes on.

Thanks for being here to give us encouragement Maurice. Be well my friend.

No problem Tom
but I was wondering exactly what you meant. Olivia is a terrific singer with a lot of soul in her voice and she really can belt them out when she wants or needs to. I'm happy that you agree with me on it, and thank you for the compliment on my voice as well. This was a fun project for both of us that I think we can be proud of, and we are. But it's always nice to have someone else pass along their impressions and comments on your work.
Thanks for taking the time to straighten us out on what you meant Tom. Your a good man and a hell of a musician and we appreciate you input.

I Love This Bar
Both voices seem to bring out a real timbre of classic country yearnin'. I feel like I'm in a chilly rural gas station in the middle of nowhere as a cold grey wind is blowing wisps of snow off the highway outside. A mechanic works underneath a pickup truck in the service bay as a beat-up plastic radio plays this tune on a cluttered shelf, while a wood stove in the corner is throwing some heat and it seems to match the song's feel as I warm my hands near the grate.

You two sound great together! This should have been on a 45 from another era...
sloparts said 3602 days ago (January 13th, 2008)
Thank you Rik
That's quite a picture you paint there Rik. But I'm not too sure this would have received any airplay back in the era of the 45. But then again maybe it would. After all it's really is a song about love.

Thanks for listening and taking time to pass along the kind words Rik. They are the fuel that keeps the engine of creativity moving along, and they are much appreciated.

And I'm glad you think we sound great together, cause I have to agree with that.

Be well my friend and enjoy the music every chance you get.

We're glad you liked the song. We've been working on it for a while now and decided to go ahead and post it. But I keep feeling there's more to do to make it even better. Maybe at some time in the future I'll work on a remix of it, but for now I'll just let it be.

Olivia is a real professional when it comes to music. She has such a dynamic voice and so much feeling in her singing that it's hard for a song she sings on not to sound great. It's been a real pleasure working with her too.

Anyway, thanks for the kind words Joseph, the encouragement is greatly appreciated.

Enjoy
this country type of sound, your writing is enjoyable to read and to listen to. I don't hear enough of this stye of writing, and I think it should be used more cause it's understandable, and not too avant gar-de were you don't have a clue what is being said. So it's great to have your added talents here. What a sweeeeet voice Oliva has here, a great addition, maybe we can get her to cross over to the other side and stay here at MJ :^)

Thank you Bill
There's an old saying, "Why beat around the bush when you can get straight to the point" That's what good country songs do, they tell a story that gets to the point. But they try to do it in a way that is real, makes sense, and is something that will stick in your head.
Most of the songs written now days don't do that, they try to be tricky or fancy about saying what it is they want to say and in so doing lose a big part of the reason they wrote the song in the first place. To communicate a message to their audience.
My mind doesn't work that way. I want no doubt in the listeners mind as to what I wanted to get across, but I also want the listener to enjoy the story I'm telling. I don't always get it right but I keep trying. So does Olivia. She a very good song writer in her own right, and a fantastic singer to boot.

Anyway, thanks again for listening Bill and for the kind words. Olivia and I are glad you enjoyed the song and let us know.

Thanks Thomas.
You can really tell when the old guys post some of their original music here cause it sounds like old time country most of the time. No getting away from it, I'm and oldster of the first order. My sons tell me I'm 2 years older than dirt, I'm so old.
But good country music is sorely lacking these days so we try our best to fill the gap. Sometimes we get it right and sometimes we don't.

Thanks for stopping by and listening to this song Thomas, and for taking time to give us words of encouragement, it is appreciated. Be well and keep on playin'

Hello Jack, how are you?
Glad to see you drop in for a cold one and share a little old timers music with us.
I think in reality Olivia gets the real credit here on several levels. She came up with the idea to do a duet, and she re-wrote the second verse to make it work. On top of that she's a great singer so how could I go wrong here, I ask you? But we'll take some of that Nashville action if anyone out there is listening.

Thanks for the kind words Jack, they really help to keep us going. I'm really happy you took a shine to this song and to the effort we put into it.

Cozy Little Tune
Pure, simple and to the point is right, Ed.

This tune has a real cozy feel to it and you've both done a nice job on the duet, with timely interplay between the two vocal parts.

Had a little bluesy feel to it with some of those sweet licks, as well. ;)

Man I'm glad you enjoyed our colab on "Shelter". We worked on it for about a month doing and re-doing tracks to try and get it right. I give credit to Olivia for the vocal interplay because she did that, and she's very good at it.

But it was a team effort and I think maybe we'll be doing more of these kinds of songs in the future. I personally think we make a great team, especially since this is out first attempt together. As time goes on I can only hope we get even better.

Thanks for the kind words Joe and the encouragement, it is greatly appreciated.

I appreciate you stopping in to listening to "Shelter" and also taking time to comment on the song and our performances on it. It is encouraging to hear kind words like yours, they make me want to try even harder to finally write and produce the "Perfect Song". Mind you I don't ever expect to do that, but in life sometimes its the journey and not the destination that matters.

Mostly, by "washed up" I mean that I'm no longer a playing/working musician. And because of that my skills, such as they were, have declined in the years since I was a working musician. But I still like to put out a good song when I find one and this, I think, was one of the better that I've done over the years.

The fact that I had Olivia working on this song with me added greatly to the quality of the final product. She is such a great singer and a damn fine songwriter in her own right that I feel blessed to have her at my side on this song. It was she who suggested we do this song as a duet and she who re-wrote the second verse for a female lead.

Anyway, thanks again for the kind words Norman, they are greatly appreciate.

Peace to you as well

Gimme Shelter
Classic duet straight out of 197x ... nice meshing of the vocals. Interesting choice on that compressed rhythm shimmer on the guitar (right track). Nice fat tone on the left rhythm/lead side. O's feline harmony and your rode-hard ol' man delivery work very well, though her vox track 'might' be just a little hot. Long story short: fine, fine tune.
