Description:
Rough GB demo of a song I've wanted to write for a while -heavily influenced by my favorite band, Failure. Studio quality version coming in about a month.

Lyrics:
I'm floating high inside my mind
Waiting for the call
That tells me she'll be here in time
To catch me when I fall
But as I climb into the clouds
My fears begin to fade
Her gravity gives up on me
As it pushes me away

Suddenly I don't mind
Being alone
I look around and I feel like
I'm right at home
In this unknown

The burning stars illuminate
The pitchest dark I've ever seen
And she looks so small from up here
But it's good to be lonely
The satellites reflect the sun
And compromise my sight
The constellations laugh at me
As I fade into the night

Suddenly I don't mind
Being alone
I look around and I feel like
I'm right at home
In this unknown

I can't recall the frequency
All transmissions have stopped
A deafening silence surrounds me
But I don't care at all

Cool track &mdash 01/13/08 - 03:04:44 AM
I like the way the guitars work together and that solo is killer. I look forward to the studio version!

thanks &mdash 01/13/08 - 03:26:21 PM
Yeah it's my first shot at having a bunch of guitars play slightly diff parts. In some areas they conflict a little I think but I'll work that out in the next version. Thanks for the comment!

Great stuff &mdash 01/13/08 - 12:29:29 PM
Love the tempo and feel of this - the wonderful swamp of guitar fx and the impassioned vocals. I like the chorus and the kinda odd chord changes in it. Basically, everything fits and this feels like something I'd hear on radio, or end titles of a movie.

The studio version should be a stunner.

Yeah I've been stuck on slow ambient songs for a while now. I think the next one'll need to be a rocker. Thanks for the comment!

I probably could have spent more time in GB getting the mud out of this, but yeah it's just a demo to record to. The next version will be a lot more defined. Thanks for the comment.

ladies and gentlemen, &mdash 01/13/08 - 02:31:47 PM
we are floating in space. I like this cashmere flanger sound very much.

hah cashmere &mdash 01/16/08 - 10:25:30 PM
thanks. I must admit I was a little worried about phaser overkill with this one. When I was finished with the song and away from it I swear I heard everything phasing in my ears, even silence.

I am transported on a black velvety spaceship into the silky midnight of the cosmos. I like the shift to the minor key in the chorus, it catches you by surprise, and the bridge has a nice climb to it. I also has a flavor of the band Filter as well. Dueling milky guitar solos, phasers up the wazoo, what's not to like. Cant wait to hear the studio version.

Filter &mdash 01/16/08 - 10:20:56 PM
thanks! Hm it is a little Filter-y now that you mention it. Whatever happened to those fellas anyway?

your song, I really like the vocals and layered guitar during the outro, the add lib at the end was cool too.

thanks! yeah I found that little clip at the end on a NASA audio clip website. It's the astronaut Dave Scott's voice as he takes his first step on the moon.

holy crap... &mdash 01/15/08 - 10:41:56 PM
thought no one but me claiimed failure as an ALL-TIME favorite! nicely done ridd! you definitely got ken and greg's guitar sound, and the approach to the vocals is also a bit ken. being a HUGE failure fan, i can definiety see and hear the homage here...but you do add your own flavor to it, which in my opinion is the way to do it. that said, great tune...can't wait to hear the studio version!

sincerely,
age

failure &mdash 01/16/08 - 10:15:49 PM
Hey thanks! Failure just rules, period. 'Fantastic Planet' is my second favorite record of all time next to Weezer's 'Pinkerton'. Ken Andrews latest solo stuff and his other band 'Year of the Rabbit' is great as well. Anyway this particular song is definitely Failuresque and I cant wait to get into the studio and try a few neat things with the mix. Thanks for listening!

Really enjoyed this one. The singer was stellar here. Guitars and chords progressions are great here.
Really love your sound.

High quality... &mdash 01/21/08 - 11:05:22 AM
....low fi.

Very well done. Classic indie shoe-gazer vibe. Well put together - just the right amount of twinkling melody amongst the layers of sonicness. The Boo Radleys spring to mind, and Ash.

Top notch.

I like the vibe on this tune. Vocal effect is cool. What did u use? Solo fits the song perfectly. Good song

there's actually a newer, better mix of this if you check out 'SP-117/This Unknown'. I think I just used an amp simulation effect in garageband for the vocal.
Thanks for listening.
