Description:
Have you ever eaten ice cream too fast, got that headache and then you spilled the words out all wrong. Well that’s me.
I decided to dig my old Peavey Fury (bass) out of the closet several months ago. It’s been about 15 years since I had played it last. I plugged it into my FirePod, booted up Logic Express picked a bass setting and to my surprise I was extremely happy with what I heard. The tone sounded great! I recently acquired a copy of Logic Studio and since I haven’t posted this yet on macjams I decided to remix and upload.
I’m dedicating this song to William Moore who passed away last August. Way back when we use to bounce off of tape, play a few gigs and have a blast!
William was one of the few people who helped build my confidence and launch me forward in my music. He was a very intelligent person who cared about the people who surrounded him. I’m blessed to have had the opportunity to spend that time with him.
May you rest in peace my friend.

Lyrics:
Hear the beat Sound bounces through
The ground and up my feet
Spin around
Hair cuts the air
My soles cut away the street
Tear a lead
Out busts the sound
It knocks me on my knees.
Show the way
Play a tune
And my body will follow
Clap along
Finger stretched string
On a guitar that is hallow
Yeah hollow…
Tear a lead
Out burst the sound
Knocks me on my Knees…
It’s the cry of the music
Rhythms playing
Finger painting
Sound from all around…

thanks for checking out my tune. It's very encouraging that you like it.
ktb
as in the group. that bass has such a nice round punchy sound. aka rickenbacher sp?. The synth work was ala wakeman. fine tribute. its great that william nurtured when he did. the vocal was cool and a pleasant surprise. didn't sound like you ??. it went hand in glove with the feel of the tune..nice
TEXASFEEL
Rick has always been one of my favorite bass players among the likes of Marcus and Stan, Rick has always had his fusion style that I grew up listening too. As far as the Keys they kind of fell together by mistake. After taking a good listen they seem to carry a nice melody and it pleased me that it worked out that way. Any reference to my favorite rock/progressive band is very encouraging. It's always a pleasure to hear your comments.
fantastic lyrics, silky keys and sharp guitars, reminding me of Phish and Yes at the same time...You hit the mark with this one!
TEXASFEEL
I'm glad you liked it. Everything seem to fall in place on this one. Running it through Logic Studio helped this to stand out a bit more. Always a pleasure to hear from you.
Jim Bouchard
great bass sound! Gee! makes me think I should get my bass out into LE8. This song reminded me a little of Phish, and is very cool. I like the impressionism of the lyrics.
TEXASFEEL
Don't hesitate any longer...Do yourself a favor and stop procrastinating. Finally I pulled that old bass out of the closet, she actually felt pretty good in my hands. Even with those old strings she didn't sound so bad. As far as the the vocals I panned the main vox with the backup vocals, I used a Pitch Correction plug in on the backup vox to give it that Cher effect and lowered the level to where you could just hear it. I used the Space Designer in Logic Studio to create the space for the two. Thanks for dropping by, it's always a pleasure to hear your input.

you know how you touch something so cold it burns? this is hot.
Somewhat a bit of Yes, true. But, something more. everything sounds great some vintage synth, great bass sound and cool guitar work. The effected voice was very slick, kinda sounds like it's going through a autofilter. i think.
excellent work and a really nice tribute.
TEXASFEEL
Yeah... the vocals have some heavy tweaking. I tried to blend them in with the synth. This was a fun one to do. I'm glad you like it. Thanks for the encouragement as always.
perceptualvortex
This is really great, from the moseying strut of a groove and the guitar to the vocals and synthy touches. This is awesome, John.
TEXASFEEL
The synth kind of fell into place. I believe it really added to the melody. Thanks for your comments and encouragement.
dajama
Such great playing. The vibe is very groovy, with a slick rhythmic feel. The singing is great - I think someone else mentioned Jo Anderson, and I'd second that. The sound of the bass is just incredible - so fat and tasty! This is a great track. Loved the mix and production, too - great sound. (One tiny thing is that the hi-hat on the left seemed a little prominent in my phones - possibly just my ears...) This is excellent. Great way to start the day, and a fitting tribute to your buddy. Nice one. Peace.
TEXASFEEL
that high hat was bothering me a bit as well, I should have fixed it. It's a real pleasure having you drop by and thanks for your comments and encouragement.

wow this track is like its made of rubber and I love the crescendo effect on the guitar solo sound - I dont know what its officially called but it makes me think of stev howe anyway.Beautiful chords - lovely keyboards. At the end I'd have liked to hear the hihat switch to ride but thats me and my brain switched onto journey mode.
Great journey - sparkly chords - proffesional sound.
makes me feel about 16 aqgain - lovely psychedelic vibe

TEXASFEEL
switching to a ride is a great idea. If your taking a journey you might as well have a nice ride. I'm glad you enjoyed this, I feel that I managed to achieve my goal with this one and there's always room for improvement. Thanks for your input.
Moviz
for all this is so new, it takes me back sound-wise with the treatment (excellent treatment) you've given it. I love the bass of course and the overlapping synth sounds. The vocal fits very well in this and is a great tribute to your friend's faith in you; I'm sure he's pleased, regards M
TEXASFEEL
I'm glad you enjoyed this. It would have been nice if William could have heard this. I hope your right and maybe somewhere he is listening.
You got that texas-feel on those guitars. Great vocals, too!

I would have to love the comparison... Now if I could mix a little Page in there I could cover my 3 favorite bands. Thanks for dropping by. Always a pleasure to hear you input.
davisamerica
something a bit different for you. wonderful sounds all around... you did your buddy proud partner!
TEXASFEEL
Thanks for your input and motivation.
Godchaser
Very fresh sounding and yet a Steve Vaish vibe pokes through.Really nice production and wonderful imagery with all the various sounds and the lyrical content.Very original and much enjoyed.Instant fav!
Blessings,
TEXASFEEL
I appreciate the comments they are very encouraging. Steve Howe is my favorite guitarist and I feel there is much that I would have to learn to achieve his status. I'm encouraged if it's only to sound a bit like him.
rtcooper
HEARD This at RN but didn't know it was here.
Easier to comment on here.
Top Production values, but I'm most impressed by the gestalt of the Package. The coordination of the sound groups to the same ends.
Kit sounds real and is very solid. It covers the Vocal in a couple of places, but that is a small fix if it were a problem.
Nice work here, John, both relaxed and confident.
appreciation and regards,
Cooper
TEXASFEEL
your right, it's more of an instrumental, the vocals are there to intensify the composition. The synth dropped into place somewhat composing itself. Always a pleasure to hear your input.
TEXASFEEL
That's EZ drummer's Vintage kit.
jiguma
That bass works just fine John. Like the fx on your voice, which is sounding strong. Guitars and synth sounds all work beautifully. What's not to like? Nicely conceived and recorded - I'm getting a new iMac and Logic Studio soon ... can't wait!
Great post!

I was ecstatic when I received my copy of Logic Studio. It's a big leap forward after playing with Logic Express... I'll have to wait to find out what it's like to use it on a new machine. Thanks for dropping by and for your comments.
This is SO you, yes it'tis....
Man that bass line is just really cool, like you know what you're doing or something :D
love ya, bro

thanks for taking a listen. I should have taken that bass out of the closet a long time ago. Always a pleasure to hear your comments.

the chordal arpeggios at the beginning, the texture of it was very pleasing to the ear. Loved the synth, nice sweet style,. The voice fits as well. Especially idea behind. LIke the Paperback Rider feel iin the guitar riff. Nice Z feel in the holding back of the lead.
I used names indicate the feeling, no copy insinuating just something to describe.
Nice stuff
TEXASFEEL
I'm glad you liked this... the Z comparison caught me off guard a bit, Paper Back Rider is a really cool tune so many thanks there. Always a pleasure to hear your input and encouragement.
Dj French Toast
is such a cool head trip ....loved the way you delived your vocal and i really just loved the way you played with the listener and what a great tribute to such a cool friend : )
TEXASFEEL
I'm glad this played with your listening experience. There was a lot of sound I was trying to move around. I think it would be cool in 5:1 surround sound but there's no way to deliver that here. Space Designer does a great job strategically locating the sounds in stereo. Thanks so much for the confidence.
bud
cool bounce - kinda Touch of Grey Dead zone - which is cool by me. Tasty bass and guitar licks. This really gets under your skin. Love it.
TEXASFEEL
I guess I get under peoples skin every once in a while. I'm glad I did it in a good way this time. Always a pleasure to have your presence.
zallaz01

One of the best things I have heard on Macjams so far...
Nothing like a real bass to give it that feel. Nice "line writing"...linear lines. Excellent Vibe-age.
