Hmm
I think you could lose that intro perc and horn to start off
with.
Behind this track is a rather interesting voice!
I would like to hear this a bit more up front!!. You have
used a strange mixture of loops in this but it kind of gels
together really well. I think you could get away with using
less loops ( in particular the swirly synth sound) and
clearing the mix a bit, whilst still keeping
the overall feel of the track. Its a bit too full.
Actually after the 3rd listen, I can hear you have a damn
good voice. as you mentioned.... very like Bowie..
Good Lyrics,
I'd like to hear more from you for sure....

thanks!
thanks for the detailed feedback and honesty! being my first time, I think I did got a little loopy (pun intended), but purposely wanted to get away from guitar-driven rock, which is my comfort zone. I think I do need to fine tune the mix a bit, and re-think the bridge (and perhaps some of the purposely hokey lyrics).

some good sound combos
You've got a good beat going in this song, and you put
together the various loops in an imaginative way. The
combination of sounds towards the end didn't quite fit,
though, and the texture was thick at that point. Make sure
the notes of your live guitar match up well with the key
the loops are playing in . Or eliminate that part altogether,
which will create a more transparent texture there.

Good vocals -- I wish they were a little more present in
the mix, since you've got so much going on in the
background. Also, it's always helpful (and appreciated) to
post your lyrics.

You have a good musical ear and just keep creating stuff!
You'll be constantly refining and improving your tracks
along the way. We are all learning as we create songs with
this great GarageBand software. You're off to a good start!

I agree...
your voice is a good one and this is Bowie like. I would adjust balance between voice and the instrumentals, as your voice is not up front enough. I like this song and it is a very good first submission.

Not to worry
Nice energy. I rather like the way the chunky guitar works
against the slick background. It didn't seem objectionably
out of tune to my ears anyway, but what do I
know.Maybe you can selectively thin the mix with
automation so that certain loops come to the forefront at
certain times, then drop back.

If you get a chance, please give my latest a listen. I fell of
the "new songs" list all too quickly!

thanks again!
and here I thought my voice was too present... ;) they say john lennon couldn't stand listening to playbacks of his own voice and neither could dusty springfield (if you can believe that). i think I suffer from the same. anyway, thanks for the words of encouragement... i get what you are saying and am going to try to peel back some of the loops for a cleaner mix... my idea is that they would punctuate certain parts of the song and add some variation/dynamics as a result. i like the suggestion of having them "take turns" rather than build on one another. i also think I'm going to redo the "bridge." wanted to intentionally make it a bit eastern/psychedelic, but without mucking up the entire song. oh, by the way, the vox was recorded using my eMac's built in mic! I think I'll use a SM57 on the next go around. thanks!

great guitar infills..
but the loops detract too much from your original stuff.
maybe try chopping up them up a bit so they are not so
recognizable (ie. make them more your own) your vox
could be louder, even tho i like how they have kind of a
muted feel to them. good tune

I'm 31 and have been playing guitar since I was 9. I really wanted to play the drums, but my mom wanted me to play church songs and Christmas songs, so I took guitar lessons. Didn't really like it at first. Then, in junior high, I discovered The R... [see more]
