Description:
A collab- my classical/folky instrumental combined with Feter's mandolin and us singing Barbara Allen, the traditional folk song. What is so cool about MacJams is that we can combine classical and folk and (hopefully) get away with it. :-)

Lovely &mdash 01/17/08 - 11:31:01 PM
Beautiful piece - what were those detuned notes in the first half? So unexpected, but so right. I suspect there's more cool about this song (and MacJams) than just folk meets classical Roxylee :) What chance would you have to collaborate with Feter (and Mr Sanchez) in Syria without it?

Roxylee, your vocals provide a really nice counter for Feter's unique, rich voice, and the instrumentation is fantastic.

Excellent post!
Neil

The twangy notes were from an electric guitar loop that I slowed way down to 44 and changed to classical guitar. Weird, but fun. Thanks for listening, and yes, thanks to MacJams, the other side of the world is not far away anymore. Thanks. MJ!

BTW- your CD is great! :-)

For some reason &mdash 01/17/08 - 11:48:10 PM
the picture really puts me in a good mood. Love the sounds here, really like the classical synth sounds and how it takes part in this delightful orchestration. I am finding this has a very airy renaissance sound, then the folk with Roxy and you.

The style is refreshing cause it adds a contrast especially to the modern sound and give the ears a rest from the busyness of modern music.

Nice low nature voice you have Feter, amazing with you we never know were your going to take us. What musical rd.

Very cool juxtaposition of sounds &mdash 01/18/08 - 06:25:26 AM
The music is really well done - you have such a great musical sense, and what an arrangement. Then the voices come, and the whole thing kicks into another gear - the mandolin carrying everything beneath your voices. Very nicely done. This made me smile this morning. Great collab. Well done to both of you. Peace.

What's funny/cool is that I had been working on the instrumental for awhile, and didn't know what to do with it. Then Feter sent me his rendition of Barbara Allen, and I got the idea to put the 2 songs together. I didn't know if they would blend, but apparently they did, because of the smile factor. Thank you. :-)

Roxylee, your little classical interlude at the beginning was genious, beautifully composed.. and Feter's playing as always was a delight, but your harmonies really sent this soaring. Wow wow wow, I'm speechless! Awesome work! Now I know why you've been doing off in the corner there!

Such a compliment from you means a lot because your compositions are so well crafted. I really love to sing harmony with others, and Feter and his mandolin are such a great combination to sing with! :-) Now I'm glad my internet connection didn't work for 3 days, because I was able to work on this. Thank you so much for commenting. :-) Your condor video is amazing, by the way. :-)

I just love what you have done, Roxylee. A real gem, as Feter would say. Your singing compliments Feter perfectly. Your many instruments so tastefully set the stage in the long intro, that I really enjoyed... and your lead out to the end via the flute.... great choice; the song, it all works well, sounds like a whole, one composition of two fine artists.

Feter seems to be a never ending source of inspiration and song sketches/demos for the MacJam family. Kudos to you both.

A RARE BIRD &mdash 01/19/08 - 09:42:19 AM
What a Rare Bird this one is.
The weep of the Holla' and the sweep concert hall.

A country tale with the overtone of the Ole Opry as well as the first violin, oboe and flute.

Sweet, pensive and experimental success.

I wasn't sure .. &mdash 01/19/08 - 06:52:33 PM

.. what the combining of these talents would bring ..
and I was very impressed. Roxanne - as Eduard said .. the
interlude/intro serves very well in combo with Feter's mandolin section .. and your harmonies are spot on .. and your voice does indeed work very well with Feter's too .. enriching the whole piece... uplifting.

Always love Feter's mando playing in particular.. so 'at one' with Mr.Sanchez.

Great collab you two- has a timeless quality to it as well, hard thing to capture.

Thank you for having a listen, especially since you hadn't planned on it. <G> I just checked out your songs- very nice! It is interesting that this song and many others in MacJams) get many hits, but far fewer actual listens. This is a shame, since in this song, the singing and mandolin come in at the end. Thank you for listening to the whole song. :-)

Terrific to hear the female voices in both ears. Roxy has is a perfect fit for folk music. This has a way back when kindo feel, full of folk nostalgia.

Which seems like good for the soul to hear a yesteryear yarn. Enjoyed feters low, low voice, He really does get quite low indeed. Maybe majams lowest voiced vocalist.

Thanks for sharing

Classical folk &mdash 01/23/08 - 08:11:06 PM
Classical and folk go together very well here, Roxy.

Beautiful section about one minute in, with the string tremulos and the rich acoustic guitar.

The clarinet is pretty convincing overall. This is, I am guessing, Apple Jam Pack Symphony Orchestra?

Your voices complement each other well. Your harmonies are rich, but not distracting.

A pleasure.

from the title, to the lovely graphic, to the gorgeous gentle intro with its delicate with a hint of asia , to the transition at 1:00 - achingly good, to the flute solo and wind instruments and the sweet distance the harmonic stairsteps had between them - this is so very nice.

roxylee - just perfect full of light harmonious vocals mixed beautifully around sir feter of the dark lush voice - supporting him and shining quietly behind his presence. you can be proud of this one! anne
