Description:
Last night I had a few hours to muck about with my guitars, and tonight I had some time to lay down some vocals and mix. This one is all me with some loops from Drums on Demand.
Lyrics:
grind my bones for mortarbuild a tower to heaven
take my heart and burn it for fuel
light the dark with my love
feed my soul to the hungry
give my eyes to the blind
grind my bones for mortar
build a tower to heaven

this was fun - the real work was trying not to make my umpteenth version of Tomorrow Never Knows. It's my default setting when I'm too tired to work on melody. Real nice of you to stop by.
bud
This was fun - but the real work was avoiding making my umpteenth version of Tomorrow Never Knows - my default mode when I'm too tired to work on melody. Real glad you stopped by.

this was a lot of fun - but it was a challenge avoiding my umpteenth version Tomorrow Never Knows - my default mode when I'm too tired to work on melody. Glad you stopped by.

at first with the acoustics i didn't get the cinematic soundtrack reference.
But then it built up into a monster wall of sound then it all made sense.
Too special for words. Excellent guitar work and manipulation. And the reverse guitar lines came out perfect.
bud
made the change. Glad you could dig it - whatever it is Vic. You're the psychedelic guitar master in my book.
everything flows so nicely its like your voice floats atop the music, nice indeed!
bud
and thanks for commenting.

Great lyrics - simple but poet. A swirling tower of song ... a shoe gazing Television. If you were 21 and in an english band, you'd be on the cover of the NME with this.
Great track, bud.
bud
I like shoe gazing Television - funny image.

song Bud. Very infectious. Beautifully played, written and sung with superb production.
I think I will be listening to this for some time to come - downloaded. Thanks.

build up on this after the subdued start. Sounds like a U2 type backing in the built up crescendo part and the vocal is good too with that nice sentiment. I could have listened to more of this, regards M

...a new heart, O Lord." Your lyric is an echo of this powerful line from the Psalms. I can feel the power of your music turning the hearts of people at a liturgical assembly...This song is insistent while gentle, full of power while peaceful...a mantra-like composition that sinks into one's bones. Nice, Bud.
Peace.

I was thinking about a description I had read of a charnel site on a mountain top in Tibet where bodies and bones were broken to be carried off by birds.
like the whole composition, the build up is nice! great song
bud
that and a little remix jampack. Thanks for stopping by.

I really like this one alot man ...Cool guitars and your bass is kick ass as always .
bud
you are welcome.
Peter Bauckham
build up on this and that backward guitar sounds excellent - I like the way it then drops back to the recurring guitar melody. A psychedelic masterpiece!

Nice of you to drop in for a listen. Looking forward to you r next offering.
Good listen, if a bit too short.
Your voice sounds great on this.
bud
Nice of you to stop by.

It has a hypnotic, cyclical quality that draws one in, and steps outside of time, and isn't boring... I really like your vocal on this one...
I was just looking at The Tower card in the Aquarian Tarot deck the other day, and this has some of that "radical change" vibe to it...
Ed

steps out of time and isn't boring - thanks - that's high praise in my book.

Some of the best music is here. Liked how the drums came in. Saw what you said 'bout Tomorrow Never Knows, it does have that feel.
Chanty.
Bud, I do like this much.
Saw your forum the other day. Did you ever find out who wrote that nasty message?
I truly think some of the best is here at Macjams.

bud
Nope - and I'm glad it blew over. Sorry for airing it - but it was weird and upsetting at the time. Thanks for dropping by - this is what it's about.

I just wanted to watch out for a Buddy.
Once again. Good song.

it's like walking through a doorway in to a very weird room full of colours and shapes and sensations...and then exiting out through another door very much changed by the experience. Nice one Bud
bud
it was meant to have a peak and relax effect - glad it worked for you.

this composition builds... it gives me goose bumps. Really relaxing lead, a whole bunch of space on this, Nice! A George Harrison feel with the backwards stuff and all.

Big, robust, wandering and flower-picky....I closed my eyes and just.....listened as it washed over me. very nice.

bud
I like "flower-picky" - a new genre.
bud
so I'm gonna take the opportunity for a group hug. Thanks to all who have taken the time to listen and comment. Also - time is really tight these days so I hope you don't mind.

I really liked this .. I would just suggest bring the very, very good vocal up just a fraction.... even perhaps
the little psychedelic riff that comes in so nicely with the acoustic ..
Have you tried the Boldt sitar before? I forget ..
I love this blend. Less is more, hooky lyrics too.
bud
I appreciate your comments and tend to agree with the first vocal bit - but I like where it sits after that. I 'm very familiar with the Boldt Sitar and purposely avoided it because I've used it so much in the past. I 2went with a little circuit dialog synth for a similar effect here.
Ibstrat
well put together.I listened to it 3 times in a row.Great song!
bud
Thanks!

i just heard this. this is amazing. giving me chills. love the gritty guitar in there, it's almost like a Spiritualized song when the tremolo comes in. really impressive, love the horns going into the breakdown with that great bass part. wish i wrote this one.
bud
with regularity. You nailed it with Spiritualized - I was thinking the same thing. After I built the rhythm guitar tracks (not the acoustic though) - I mixed them to iTunes and brought it back in to manipulate and blend into the originals. One combo track got a heavy flange effect and the other got the tremolo. Good ears. Thanks.
dajama
I love the guitar work on this. The acoustic sounds terrific, and the electric has a great tone. The percussion and bass sounds work perfectly to get that drone effect. This has a wonderful hypnotic power to it, and I'm gobsmacked that you could come up with this in just a few hours! Nicely done. Peace.
bud
by the speed of this - the secret is I take shortcuts when time is tight and create pieces like this by looping my own playing. I'll lay down jams on a bunch of tracks and then select what I like and build and loop. In this case there are four guitar tracks put together from about twelve passes. The acoustic was an add on after I thought I was done.
Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment.

Kinda got a feel of u2 on this though it's your own style. But like that u2 type of energy. Enjoy the that type of singing. Like that almost backwords beatles sound.
Interesting words, makes ya kind stop and think about em.
Thanks for sharing
bud
It's nice that the lyrics resonated with you. I don't mind the U2 comparison and who doesn't love The Beatles?

This one is awesome! Wish I could muck around like that!!!
