Description:
a newer one--been away a while--it's good to be back

Lyrics:

today, they say it's over:
there's nothing left behind...
just paper cups and hopefull goodbyes...

to cladrabine, dacarbazine
floating in my bloodstream...
won't you carry me
beneath the trees outside,

september sky's so blue and so bright
and these silver birches are only wielding light
against the loss that we are not prepared
for all the implications everywhere...

but they're still holding on:
small flashes on the water...
then they're gone...

i see it all so clear now...
but i had no idea: how green...
and how bright...

and nothing like those sweet songs
that i believed were so wrong:
the way that we are found and lost
at such a cost...

just to be a body set in motion
that nothing stops at last,
i walk out through the glass
into the whole world...

september sky's so blue, so bright
and these silver birches are only wielding light
against the loss that we are not prepared
for all the implications everywhere...

but i'm still holding on...
they say some pain will remain,
but the virus is gone...

then i'll say it again:
turn it into a song
that i sing all day long:

i'm in remission/i'm in remission...

and i'll sing all day long...

Enjoy &mdash 01/23/08 - 08:50:09 PM
how the intro starts with one guitar and then the next, singing has that trademark terrific folk rock jonx singing. Very nice texture in your vocals and I can see how lots of people enjoy your music. Great lyrics, very serious stuff it seems in the song. Hope who ever that is about has lots of happy things happen to them.

Thanks for sharing

Quite a song, jonx. Eye-opening celebration of Life.

Wonderfully written and performed.

Be well and sing on my friend. ;)

supa dupa, but &mdash 01/23/08 - 10:17:08 PM
Sort of bump in the bass tones that blankets the low end. Not sure if that's working for me. Maybe that's just my ears, and the bass sounds mighty woody like it might be an upright, alright, but it's a little too fat and needs to go on a diet. It's sort of a relief when the bass drops out at "the virus is gone" part, because I can hear your voice without straining. I'm a picky one, I admit, but that's what I hear.

GREAT TO SEE/HEAR YOU &mdash 01/24/08 - 02:10:10 PM
Your songs are always like a meal for me... I've had one eye open for you, and an ear cocked your way... the wait was worth it... If I walked through a mall or airport or anywhere, and heard this... I'd stop and say "JONX" one of my fav artists... such a tender recognizable voice and sound..

beautiful work... and your guitars are sounding excellent... any change in your approach?

happy day

Love it &mdash 01/24/08 - 03:56:37 PM

..the vocals: singing, lyrics and phrasing and the songs general feel is what makes this a cut above. Guitar is very tight. The mix is great, just the bass and bass drums are a little on the heavy side to my ears and for the vibe. Welcome back .. loved your "Decor v2" as well, makes me think a little more harmony here and there might also worth considering. Ending a wee bit sudden .. a slightly late cymbal crash left to ring out might have sufficed. Keep 'em coming.

Great &mdash 01/24/08 - 04:25:15 PM
vocals and great musicianship on this tune. Very impressive! I'm glad dacarbazine was worked in to the lyrics. Not for any other reason other than you NEVER see that!

Top song .. &mdash 01/25/08 - 06:08:45 AM
.. beautiful, touching song indeed. Guitars are clear as a bell, drums sound real. Like Jim, for me the bass and maybe also the kick drum are a little big for the song, and interfere with the rest of the instrumentation, but most importantly gets in the way of your voice (which to me could come up a few notches on the loud pedal). Needs to rumble less and be a little more precise to my ears.

However, that doesn't take away from your amazing voice and powerful words. Brilliant to have you back - more please!!

Neil

gracias! &mdash 01/26/08 - 05:03:40 PM
thanks to you all for the kind comments and especially the criticisms about the low end: yeah, i don't really crank it up much, so i didn't notice it-live and learn...
drums are real-played a few songs w/ this guy in the woods of maine-a nice change from loops, but different challenges-ever spend 2 hours moving kick drum hits around? fun!
i've been recording vox and gtrs w/ the basic tracks turned up in the background-the more "air" i can push around, the better it sounds(to me)
thanks again!

This is a great song. Lots of depth and emotion. I am hoping that you or the person in the song is truly in remission. You did a great job here telling the story. You sing and play very well. Thanks for sharing this!

nice composition. &mdash 01/26/08 - 10:26:25 PM
I love the two acoustic guitars strumming differently just enough to feed on each-other...they blend as if played by brothers sitting together.
Great tune...
well done.
So many real great comments here.
There is something to all this,
more than what meets the ear....
so much more.

Glad I found this! &mdash 01/29/08 - 06:31:55 PM
I was just randomly clicking, just listening to whatever I happened to find, but this song just stopped my in my tracks. Love the guitars, love the vocals, love the song. Just great, all around.

I could listen to you sing all day long.

~Brian

PS- OK, I will say there was one thing which distracted me, and that's the cymbal chokes at the very end. If you like them, cool, but I was wishing the cymbals would just decay naturally.
