Description:
This is an invitation for collaboration. I used Arlo Guthrie's story about the history of the song as the basis of these lyrics. The melody is not quite the standard one, having a more bluesy feeling. Welcome are additional voices, counterpoint, etc.

In my singing I tried to cut back on the operatic style, though perhaps not 100 perfcent successfully. Advice from those who sing in more than one style appreciated here.

I did this in an interesting way. Since my main music computer is over by the Yamaha keyboard and I was testing my canon DV20 HD video camera for some other purpose on the office computer, I plugged an AT 228 stero mic into the CAMERA and video-recorded it. I do not have a mic interface with this computer; that is why I used the camera. ( I use Firepod on the music computer.)

I transferred the video to the computer and extracted the audio using Metro (Cakewalk) after adding some reverb. (I would have used GB but it opened up slowly on this computer for some reason--corrupted file?).

I have the original aiff file with and without the reverb just in case.

Not sure how these collabs are done, but interested in anyone tryinmg something if you feel like it.

Lyrics:
New words by me

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now am found
Was blind but now I see

A ship of slaves my job was to sail
Across the shining sea
Was Grace that turned my ship around
And set those people free

Oh you who blindly sail your ships
Of sin and greed and hate
Oh turn your ships around again
I swear it's not too late

G5 Desktop (PPC), Canon MV20 HD mini DV camera, AT822 microphone

I think...
that if you're classically trained and operatic, then that's the way you should sing. It seems that when you try not to be who you are musically, the music suffers for it. In fact it sounds like your holding it back in the track.... I think that this song would be pretty groovy if it had some bold operatic vibrato on it.

I'm new here too, and I don't know how to do collaborations, but for those who do electronic and ambient music. I think it would be fun to contrast your operatic voice with some techno beats.
That would be cool

Good rich voice by the way...
