Description:
Another early one.

I wrote this song about 4 or 5 years ago. It was one of the first I did on GB (October 2006). Just a song about awareness of the world around us.........you know.

The last part of the song was taken from a song I did back in the 90's called "Make a List of the Things that you left in the Rain". Long title, huh? And that song was done in a totally different style (Punk-Funk)..I guess. Anyway, it just needed something at the end. So, I stole from myself. I will be filing a lawsuit on Monday.
Until then, enjoy.
Would appreciate criticism and praise. Or both.

Lyrics:
Just Look Around

You’d better hide all those tears
Cause’ if anybody hears you cry
You’ll feel weak, resist to speak
No matter how hard you try

And you’ll come to an end
And then you’ll find your only friend,
Who thinks the weakest link
Is loneliness not happiness

Just look around
And listen to the sound
That feels so good
Like everything should

If you have a doubt and no way out
And nobody hears you when you shout
You gotta’ get out of bed
Forget about those things and raise your head

When something is not right
You can’t lose sight and wait all night
You gotta’ believe in you dreams
Nothing’s impossible although it seems

Just look around
And listen to the sound
That feels so good
Like everything should

You’re making a wish, you’re breaking a dish
In another way, in another day
Make a stand, misunderstand
Try to try, but don’t try to try
Fill a hole, steal a soul
Do a dance, take a chance
People walk, not making small talk
Take a break for goodness sake
Buy a gun just for fun
Build a chair, don’t comb your hair
Butterflies and dragonflies
Lazy flies all around this guy
Jealousy and agony
Modesty, not racially
Atomic bomb, sing a song
Haunted house, electric mouse
Think of you, think of me
Think of her, think of he
Think of me, eventually
Eventually, eventually

I really like this! &mdash 01/27/08 - 07:45:38 AM
Very cool musically with lots of nice, little changes and pauses.

I like the harmonies and would have preferred them a little higher in the mix (personally preference, not necessarily a recommendation). Very cool how you changed the vocal effect on the last part. Cool fade out- seemed like the music was fading just slightly faster than the vocal.... I never would have thought of that! Nice creative approach!

Nice mix - drums cut across very well. Vox is really fine, and the chorus melody good - the track has a kinda military feel to it. I like the stops, but some of them sound a bit cut off. The reggae break is a surprise, but work when it comes - sounds kinda Clash! s

I knew those little discrepancies would never pass you by. I think I'll buy you some crappy speakers for you birthday.

Thanks Echo

Atomic bomb - sing a song &mdash 01/27/08 - 11:21:42 AM
Very well constructed song Dave. Although I do feel that the end part could be lengthened and made into a separate song. Very catchy. Enjoyable listen. Thanks.
Cheers

It was....... &mdash 01/28/08 - 02:43:34 AM
The last part was in fact a separate song. I just put it on there because I felt it neede a little change up at the end. George Martin, I am not.

Thanks Len and have a nice week.

You're always...... &mdash 01/28/08 - 02:52:37 AM
Thanks for complimenting my vocals. I wish I had that confidence 10 years ago, than I wouldn't have had to depend on singers singing my words.
Really glad you liked it.

Enjoyed this David &mdash 01/27/08 - 03:07:37 PM

.. does have some influences on sleeves- I sense The Clash first, The Specials, The Stranglers, The Doors .. and some of The Lavalamp .. and I like that... I wasn't surprised by the reggae break at all .. was expecting it...I read echoroom's comment .. lol. Solid arranging.

Great chorus too.. would bring the bass up a little .. or just try to bring out some of those nice little runs... and perhaps the 'ah' b.vox there at the beginning too.

Thanks for listening &mdash 01/28/08 - 02:46:43 AM
I did a little eq-ing before I put this up. I'm always afraid it will be too bassy, so I'm quite conservative in that regard.
Next time will be better. Oh, glad you enjoyed it, too.

Surprise a plenty &mdash 01/27/08 - 04:31:27 PM
You gotta put out more of the oldies, because to me they are fresh! YA know when you have the break I expect to hear an audience screamin, dont know why! The reggae break sounded a little like the subhumans call me crazy ! Man that was just toooo good!

nice one Dave &mdash 01/27/08 - 05:39:23 PM
sounds totally L.L. to me.

real catchy. liked the turn around at the end. True backing voclas could come up a tad.

So as your acting attorney I would advise that you not talk to yourself until all issues can be handled in court.

...find that the vox are a bit too far in the background for my taste...had trouble making them out over the instruments, a couple of times.
Otherwise, I think it's a really cool piece. Agree with aclarke: the vocal effect/fadeout are a nice touch.

My taste in music is not my greatest attribute. It got me in a lot of "Musical Trouble", in the past, if you know what I mean. I'm glad you dug this, though. Thanks for the support GP.

I dig it! I like the abrupt pauses, the sweet guitar lead and your original lyrical stylings.

The ending was great!

great idea to change the style (never have been big on the punk/fuk genre). great touches everywhere (backups, solo, the acoustic, that change into reggae,...). nice one LL.

such a good sound here. You voice is great too, a bit Lou Reed maybe? You put so much into your recordings but they never sound too much, like it a lot.

Nice one, Dave. Very catchy. I love the stops and starts, and the reggae change up is really, really cool too. I like the way it fades out actually. I'd leave the end as is. One of your best!

Okay, this was a total breath of fresh air... I really enjoy your unique approach and obvious enthusiasm. This song echoes shades of so many other songs and acts that I've loved in the past. You did a great job of pulling everything together and making a pleasurable listen.

The reggae ending really is the cherry on top- I love it!

This hooked me in and didn't let go. Love the lyrics, and your vocal on this is great. I hear Mick Jones (which is a good thing!) and the reggae break at the end is excellent. You're a creative force of nature! How many of these songs do you have floating around out there?! Nicely done. Really enjoyed this one. Peace.
