Description:
As a singer, a chance like this, you don't get every day... Casper Van Vulpen, one of the most gifted guitar players I ever came across (I met him on Sellaband), composed an instrumental track to be vocalised. I jumped on it like a hungry wolf... Hoping the result will please you.

Casper: composition and guitar
me: lyrics and vocals

-Walt

Lyrics:
By this river
lovers were loving and laying
on the grass and were saying
that love never dies
under white stained blue skies
where the sun never hides
shining love rays so bright

There were white roses growing
like a cover of snow in July
There were bees, there were birds
they were filling a perfect day's sky

There was you, there was I
there was plenty of pleasure and

Days without sorrow
days without rain
welcome tomorrow
days without pain

By this river
soldiers and angels were drinking
getting drunk and were thinking
about the right and the wrong
putting words in a song
and they all sang along

About the loss and the winning
the black and the white days in life
About the men and the women
who were thinking that love never dies

About you, about I
about love that mutated in

Days filled with sorrow
days filled with rain
there's no tomorrow
days filled with pain

Like there's no place to run
when you walk in the rain
Like the river has gone
I guess we're feeling the same

There's no you, there's no I
just a fairytale without
a prince or a princess
no magic, no end
but the river keeps flowing
and the flowers keep growing
in my heart it keeps snowing
no end

Lovely Tune... &mdash 01/27/08 - 02:07:12 PM
... and a lovely lyrical interpretation.

Casper has a very nice touch on that acoustic.

Nice slice-of-life reflection, contrasting the permanency of the Elements against the transitory emotions of Man.

Good job, Walter. ;)

This is a fantastic example &mdash 01/28/08 - 06:10:34 AM
of two talents combining to create something great. The guitar playing is beautiful, full of sweet melodic touches, and the sound is so crystal clear and ringing. Then your voice on top of that is perfect. You sing with great expressiveness, and the lyrics are very evocative, filled with memorable images, and very nicely done. A perfect storm! This is outstanding. Kudos to you both. Peace.

Wonderful! &mdash 01/28/08 - 03:30:13 PM
What a distinctive and powerful voice you have. The imagery of your lyric is very evocative. And the guitar . . . just great! I am particularly impressed with a peice of work that just stands on its own, just voice, guitar and just takes up so much room. Great tallent making itself felt here!
Very impressive,

Yes, I was surprised myself about the richness of the instrumental track when I first heard it. I just added vocals on one single track over it, nicely centered.
Thanks for all the compliments, Stephen, and for the time listening and commenting. Really appreciated.

Hi Walter &mdash 01/28/08 - 11:55:50 PM
This is very nice.
The guitar is a very different accompaniment behind your voice. It evokes the singer in you to be different, just a singer.
You sing wonderfully in this piece.
The emotion in your voice equals the emotion in the guitar for a sweet balance.
The guitar is recorded so beautifully.
And you have got a great vocal delivery.
nice writing/playing/singing/mixing/etc.......

The fingerstyle &mdash 01/29/08 - 09:18:17 AM
tonality is a delight, and the the strum at the first was a cool sound.
This almost reminds me of Garth Brooks but of course your style.
Great job in the recording here, the fingestyle has a lot of nice structure.

Way to go!

of thoughts and of sounds and of feelings and of hopes, and of dreams you have painted here. The vocal is rich in feeling and the guitar playing literally fills this song up with emotion. It's hard to believe this was one guitar in the hands of one person. Absolutely amazing.
