Jazz (385)French Quarter (1)
Description:
Here's a song I wrote when I was in New Orleans recently, got the idea while listening to bands in the french quarter. It started out dixieland style and somehow ended up like this.

It originally had lyrics, but the girl I wrote them for dumped me. So I tore the page out of my lyrics book and ripped it into tiny little pieces and threw them away.
Now it's an instrumental.

I'm having a hard time with GB Loops and percussion. That's why the track is just two guitars. They just don't seem to match up and my timing sometimes gets off while layering tracks. Am I supposed to be adjusting the timing after recording because of lag? Or do I just have bad timing?

Still getting buzz, but working on it...
I did use the tips i got on doubling guitar, AUequalizer, etc., to get a fuller sound. It works!

Lyrics:
In the local landfill

Hardware:
Fender Strat, Digitech RP350, Probably too-long guitar cable

Software:
GB '08

I think this sounds wonderful! &mdash 01/28/08 - 01:42:55 PM
If you're having latency problems and trying to play with that....it's nearly impossible. I find myself nudging stuff around in time a lot. Some samples or any sound with a late attack I sometimes move forward a few ticks till it sounds natural. Not sure what your timing problem is but this sounds great.

Love your guitar work &mdash 01/30/08 - 11:51:54 AM
What kind of computer are you using? You should not have latency with just two guitar tracks. However, one tip is to do the recording of the tracks with absolutely no internal effects at all (compressor, reverb, etc, that stuff uses more CPU). Once the bland tracks are down, then go to town on adding effects. Also, make sure that all other applications are closed (not just minimized) to maximize the available memory. Let me know how you fare.

Thanks for checking out mys stuff &mdash 01/30/08 - 12:05:19 PM
I think my timing was just off on this song. I haven't had the same problem with some of my other tracks. My computer is brand new w/3gb of ram so that's not the problem.

Despite any buzz you may be getting (I'm listening at low volume so the kids don't wake up so I don't hear anything) you are getting a great tone. The eq-ing is working!

I've noticed with my own recordings that there can be a little hiss no matter what I do when plugging into the macs line-in. I think it's just the weak link of the process. One of these days I'll cough up the dough for a Firewire or USB interface.

Either way, well done!

thanks for the input. I decided not to worry about the buzz till I can do something about it. I'll probably drop my 'Pres. Bush' rebate check on a new interface myself.
