Description:
This is a love song I did in 1989 in my studio back then. I've just finished bringing it into the digital age with Garage band to add some tracks to it, fill it out some and tweak the mix.
So really, it's kind of a mix of old technology and new. Whether the combination works or not is for all of you to decide.

Enjoy the mix, and thanks in advance for listening.

Ed

Hard To Let Myself Go (My Heart Has A Mind of It's Own)
Words, Music and Arrangement By Edward C. Wemmerus Sr.

Intro
It's been a long time since I've let myself care
And feel the way you make me want to feel
So I falter and stumble when I'm with you
Your closeness makes my heart want to reel
Please try to understand, it's not anything you've done
That keeps me holding back
It's just that I'm scared to give

Verse
It's so hard for me to let myself go
I'm afraid that I just could not stand the pain
Of letting my heart love you, to have you turn away
And getting my heart broken once again
And getting my heart broken once again

Chorus
But every time I look into your eyes
I know that it is useless for me to fight
Cause when it comes to you girl, I lose all control
My heart has a mind of its own
My heart has a mind of its own

Instrumental Bridge

Verse 2
If it wasn't for the love that I feel
When your lying next to me in the night
I wouldn't have the courage to let my heart be free
To love you with all the feeling thats in me
To love you with all the feeling thats in me.

Chorus
But every time I look into your eyes
I know that it is useless for me to fight
Cause when it comes to you girl I lose all control
My heart has a mind of its own
My heart has a mind of its own.
My mind has a mind of it's (own) - - - - - - - -( hold to finali)

I've Thought Of This
...goosing an old tape track with some modern touches. Some of my old 'basement tapes' have been experimented on like that, but I ended up posting them 'bare' for the Analogapalooza project. You know, you keep pretending you're an old guy but you're more experimental that half the yoots out there!

Very interesting here... I thought about slow dancing with a girl at a high school senior prom... your guitars have such a sweet, smooth sound. I like this!

Well Rik, it was an experiment after all !
I knew when I posted it it wasn't up to snuff like it could be if I redid the whole song again. But sometime you gotta try things out to see how they're gonna work.
It's not a bad song, but it suffers from terminal newbeitis since it was one of the first ones I did back when I got the Tascam stuff in 1990. I've learned since then that you can't go back, only forward. Maybe one of these days I'll redo the whole thing and try to make it shine.

Thanks for the honesty in the ratings and your comments Rik. Believe it or not they really are appreciated a lot.

Be well my friend

Great title Ed
Quite downbeat and it would have been interesting to hear the original.

I like the tremelo on the guitar and how you've made this a big production number.

Cheers

Dick

Thanks Dick
This was one of the first songs I did in 91 right after I bought the then new Tascam recorded and mixer. Unfortunately I had a lot to learn about arranging and mixing back then. (still do for that matter) Anyway, because of that it wasn't what I would call a great arrangement or mix so I've never posted it online.

Last week I tried to do something with it for the first time in almost 20 years and what you heard here is the results. It's still not great, but it's a whole lot better now that I've augmented the original with some additional tracks.

Thanks again Dick for you ears and your comments. They are always encouraging and helpful. Be well my good friend.

Enjoy your style of writing
it seems that all the tunes I've heard you sing, I am entertained by the words because I guess the lyrics seem so real. Enjoy the lead, and unusual sound that seems refreshing in an electric sense.
Nice texture in the voice!!

Thanks for sharing

Thanks Bill
I guess that's because I'm still living in the 60's and 70's when you had to craft the lyrics to get them heard. But mostly it's because I had a friend named Charlie Red who worked with me for several years helping me learn a little about song writing. I still have a lot to learn, but my songs are as good as they are (however good that is) because of Charlie's demanding instruction and help. Charlie helped me in the mixing department too, but I'm still learning in the area.

Since I've been on MacJams I've received a lot of good advice and help here from some of the incredible musicians on this site. There are some very talented and knowledgeable people on this site who are always ready and willing to help a person learn how to make it better, and I appreciate that a lot.

Thanks again Bill for the kind words and for stopping in to listen. Be well my friend

Nice transistion..
to the digital age...I dig the honest lyrics and background voices...

and the simple solo propels the song nicely

Thanks Tom
It's another one of my early attempts at producing my own music. Sometimes it worked pretty well and other times it didn't. This one wasn't too bad, and is even better now that I've tweaked it a bit. But it could be a lot better if I redid the whole thing from scratch again now, I think.

Thanks again Tom for stopping and listening to it. Your kind words are much appreciated.

hey Ed
I was trying to decide what tracks were new ones done in GB.
Strings?
Bass?
Harmony Guitar lead?
This sounds great. I love the mix.
I have messed around with some old mixes with GB enhancement.
Its kool what you can do.
great tune

Thanks Timothy
Well this one is mostly all the original. The only thing I did to it in GB, other than some EQ and Comp/Limiter was add some new Bass and Drums parts to supplement the original Bass and Drums which were pretty thin sounding. Everything else is from the original Demo master.

GB has a lot of potential and I seem to find something else I can do with it almost every time I do another song. I'm going to get a new iMac soon, I hope, and either Logic Express 8 or Logic Studio. Which I get will depend on how much I feel I can afford. Being retired is nice, except when it comes to some of the extra things I'd like to have, but such is life.

Thanks for stopping in and listening Tim. I'm glad you liked it and appreciate the comments and kind words.

Be well my friend.

i like the lyrics. this song really says a lot. like the electric little solo type piece at about 2 minutes in. the great song carries it past any small issues on the production side of changing from old to new.

Thanks Chance
Happy to see you drop in on some of the earlier songs I've posted. There are some pretty fair Country songs in the lot of them, but of course you would need to judge for yourself on that score.

This was written when I was about to fall in love with the woman who would become my wife and I, like most of us at some time or another, was still smarting from a romance that had gone bad. I'm happy to say that she was the right one for me.

Glad you enjoyed the song Chance, and sent along some kind words.

Thanks again, and be well

Ed
