and he picks up a shovel full one more time
gotta sandwich in the sack but lunch is over

Hey Leon, &mdash 01/29/08 - 12:34:06 PM
thanks I'm glad you liked it. Every time I mess with the loops seems some
sort of song develops......this one is far from finished, just thought
I would go ahead and post it for now cause I was gettin burnt out on it.
thanks for commenting

You say these are loops? &mdash 01/29/08 - 05:52:04 AM
Wow- that's impressive! What a great little song- I agree with Leon in that it's way too short- I look forward to you adding other parts to ths. Perfect soulful vocal and excellent use of horns. [ Reply to This ]
Yeah it's looped &mdash 01/29/08 - 12:57:16 PM
in the verses over an old r&b bass line that started the whole thing. The middle section only has one loop. I've been wanting to use those horns in something...I think they are just the GB and L8 funky horns. I did put a synth under them to beef em up a little. Thanks also for the vocal compliment although I wasn't happy with it....I'll redo it whenever I finish this thing. You know I'm not happy with my mic....it's audio technica 3035 I think, but the bottom end is not compact enough for me singing in that low register. I rolled the bottom off with the filter switch but didn't help. One of the best mic's for this kinda thing is an old sm57 but I don't have one here right now.
uh oh I started rambling.....thanks again [ Reply to This ]
loopalicious &mdash 01/29/08 - 09:28:49 AM
Yeah, the horns sound great in this, and your voice is just right. Loop on! :-) [ Reply to This ]
Roxy you are &mdash 01/29/08 - 01:05:17 PM
probably laughing at me and my loops by now. I'm really trying to learn more
about what I can and can't do with em. They can be a blast but also a headache.
I'm not all that confident normally, using horns but I do have an idea of how to use them in the old New Orleans style like this middle section.
Roxy thanks so much for listening to my stuff [ Reply to This ]
delight &mdash 01/29/08 - 09:35:01 AM
Smirky... I like it, quite catchy. You have a great main section and a super chorus... ready to hang a few more stanzas on. It's funny, I was reading along, NOT reading ahead, and when you got to the line 'You know where he can be found...', my mind said "yup, at the bar..." and you switched gears on me and got all mushy and instead said 'with his baby' and I was completely hooked... love it! Some of the loops don't quiiiiite sound right together early on, but overall this is a very well-crafted bit of tuneage.

Have you lost your mind! &mdash 01/29/08 - 01:47:16 PM
What do you mean the loops don't sound right, they are only playing in different keys! (they really are) Kidding aside it bout drove me crazy, it's like when the band starts on two different songs. They sounded even worse when in the right key Ha! I think its got something to do with them playing those little r&b licks with a 4th in em.
Anyhow I'll have to fix em when I feel like getting back into this.
Oh and I could change it to him going to the bar, then the title would be.....
His Buddies.

'drooping' here Droop... It stands up very well indeed and I just love that precise funkiness in the production and those excellent, excellent (yes double excellent) vocals. Good lyrics too, but I wanted it to go on longer....just love it and did I say I love your voice on this?, regards M [ Reply to This ]

Well you are &mdash 02/08/08 - 04:24:20 AM
overly kind with your comments. Thanks so much and I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner, just been kinda busy. Well to be honest I just recently got interested in music again because of logic and also finding MJ's. I wish the singing thing came easier but, not doing it for years and getting older.....I get very frustrated.
But hey I'm gonna keep trying.
Again thanks so much [ Reply to This ]

Thanks Saymme &mdash 02/08/08 - 04:32:14 AM
I'm glad you like the lyrics. Just got to finish them now. Music is so funny....I never dreamed when I started piddling with the bass line I'd wind up writing
about a guy in a coal mine Ha! Now Mr. Drak up there might drop by the bar after a day in the hole......myself...I would be home fast as I could and laid up in the arms of my baby!
thanks for listening

first class &mdash 02/04/08 - 08:15:48 PM
Love it to bits, can you get it on a 45rpm ? It reminds me of everything I like. No droop here.
Cant think of anything that could improve it and above all to me - a really well crafted and ultra catchy song. A keeper I think. Thank you. I want to be your fan but at the moment I'm not sure how to do that as it's my first day here, - jeez - new boys ay !!! [ Reply to This ]
Well first of all &mdash 02/08/08 - 04:38:26 AM
Welcome Mr Woofer. I was kinda drooping after fighting with those loops for a
spell. Well there's probably one thing that could have improved it.....and that would be some of that wonderful piano you play. Come to think of it, you would have probably fit right in and made it shine.
thanks woof [ Reply to This ]
Nice groove! &mdash 02/07/08 - 10:23:23 PM
I really like the groove. The vocals work perfect. My kind of R&B.
Really good!

Thanks Mr B &mdash 02/08/08 - 04:49:53 AM
It all started with the bass line, which I can't for the life of me remember what old r&b song it came from. Sounds like something Booker T and the mg's would play. Actually every time I do a groove drum track I always think of their drummer Al Jackson. What a great player and I don't know if he had any tom's.....if he did he seldom played them. He sure knew how to lay it in the pocket though.
Thanks again B and I'll check your stuff [ Reply to This ]
well &mdash 02/09/08 - 08:19:43 AM
crafted song.....u have it together in the songwriting department....and the arrangement is top notch......nice and tight......u have "it".....now people need to be exposed to "it".....musicians like gretchen wilson pop up all the time in the right circumstances.....i hope u get those right circumstances and some great songwriting will be what does it......best to you!!!! That means a whole lot to me, coming from such an exceptional talent as yourself Mcboy. I never have written a lot of songs but, I tend to put a lot of time and effort into the one's I think are valid. Yes, you are correct about the right circumstance and timing.....it can make all the difference in the world.
Oh by the way in case you missed my comment on the chestnuts roasting Christmas song.......I nearly wore it out and am still listening to it Ha! What a great version.

you'll have to finish this... this could be construed as just another loopy offering, until you sing... you nail it, with such an authenticity... I'm lovin' the meter and soul in the vox... you've had your ears all over everything... this is seasoned [ Reply to This ]
