Lyrics:
Rain of Love by Feter key of G

autumn is our air
ancient psychy bell
make the eye see
and hold the love sake
love was a gem
kept in a shell
if it make the heart bleed
and cry for rain
could be with muddly sky
wisdom of pain
scream of truth
way to make you ease
and wept for more
never to ease
and ever to grow
hold the rose seeds
and cherish the rain
could be with muddly sky
love ain’t no lie
then hurt is to wait
kept the wise bleed
and try to seek
dawn was the air
ever to embrace
kiss was the word
and the word is the rain
could be with muddly sky

What a great family we have here! &mdash 01/29/08 - 04:38:55 PM
This is a delightful tune, because of all the people who have come together to put this whole thing together! Feter, great song here, and to have Roxylee add her sweet harmony to this, then Mike's great drums, Jack's perfectly-fitting harmonica, and Vic's groovy guitar-work...

Gets me all mushy and teary, but Feter, you deserve it. Thanks to everyone for making MY day too, what a glorious collaborative gift, to everyone.

ttfn,
Drakonis

What a wonderful collaboration &mdash 01/29/08 - 04:39:13 PM
Feter's words, Roxy's harmonies, Jack on the harp, Mike and Neil holding the bottom end together as only they can, and Vic filling in the rest of the story on slide and guitar. You are all a credit to musicianship and the art.

Bravo to all of you for a wonderful song. Thanks you for doing this together.

Oops! Neil! &mdash 01/29/08 - 04:41:05 PM
Hiding in the background there, Neil gave this some strong bass backbone and did the herculean effort of mixing all this (I cannot imagine mixing any of these big multi-collab projects, makes my brain spin!) Kudos Neil!

Ammending my comments above, &mdash 01/29/08 - 05:01:32 PM
I wrote, "This song, Rain Of Love, should be a hit, and it would be, if it were produced and released by a recording label. Thanks Feter, for letting me play studio man on your song." Well, that was before Neil jumped in to "the mix" as the real studio man. He has done a great job, not only on his bass but by bringing the best sound out in this song. All you need now, Feter, is a record label.

My thanks and kudos to Roxylee, Mike, Vic, and Neil for responding and joining the "McBlues Band." And special thanks to you Feter for being so patient (he sent this demo to me October 2007) and allowing me to work on this song.

You rock, Feter!

Everyone &mdash 01/29/08 - 05:37:57 PM
involved here should be extremely proud. You know every time something neat like the internet comes along, there are those who choose to use it for ugliness, greed, evil, and so on. I think this is a perfect example of goodness being created by good people for a good purpose and it shows in this touching piece of music. It's times like this that I actually see the power of the Web and site's like MacJam's to share good things with us all. Thanks too Mr Feter and all of his wonderful friend's for sharing this one.....and Roxy your voice is like icing on the top of this big ole cake of goodness.

Thank Yall

I had no idea that Roxylee, Vic, and Neil were in on this too! Excellent performances everyone!

Feter, this is a wonderful song and I can't even begin to tell you how honored I feel to be part of this collaboration!

And Jack, thanks for asking me to be part of this, and for being patient with me and my crazy schedule.

This was a nice learning experience for me. Normally I'm most comfortable working with drum loops, but this one had to be played straight through on the keyboard.

CAST OF THOUSANDS &mdash 01/29/08 - 05:53:09 PM
Nice tune.
Good Heart.
The Lead vocal is a tad cavernous while most everything else seems further forward on the Soundstage, but it comes together by the midpoint.

What a piece of coordination!
Congratulations all around.

When I first heard this, I really liked the song - simple, folksy and deep as it is.

really sounds nice!!!! &mdash 01/29/08 - 09:15:45 PM
I feel like I'm in a revival meeting.

I was wondering how this was going to sound in the end.
Roxy's vocal is absolutely fabulous.
Neil's bass is the glue
Mike's drumming on the keyboard, keeping it steady as she goes.
Jack just a wailing away on that harmonia. Just an old blues man waiting to break out.
And of course Feter excellent vocals.

I was about to retire the slide for awhile but Jack asked to me dust it off and give it a go. Glad I was of service.

Now, who is pasing the collection plate around? :)

I fell in love with this poem song. The imagery was powerful, and Feter's rich voice sings with emotion. I was honored when asked if I wanted to add some harmony. As I listen to this finished product over and over, I pick out each persons' part and it is all wonderful to my ears. You guys sure know how to make a great song even greater! It really touches my heart how music can bring people from all over the globe together. We are truly family here. Thank you for all your wonderful comments, and thank you for letting me sing with you. ps- sorry if I ruined the surprise, Jack- I didn't realize it was a surprise!

I can't believe it! &mdash 01/30/08 - 11:33:06 AM
Feter,
These guys are amazing. I am so glad that people are taking your music and putting their art around it. It just enhances the poetry and style that you bring to folk music. The slide guitar almost sounds like a fiddle part. I really like it. Roxy's angel voice is a great contrast to your earthy baritone. I do have a technical question though. On these colaborations, how does one synch up the timing of the instruments, particularly drums? On stuff done with loops its automatic, but for musician based stuff it seems impossible, yet you guys do it all the time.
Thanks everyone,
Stephen

[ Reply to This ]
Timing :) &mdash 01/30/08 - 02:24:55 PM
You ask a very interesting question Stephen! The normal way that drums (and everything else for that matter) are synched is for the initial performance - call it the draft track perhaps - to be done using either a metronome (use the built-in one in GB or Logic) or a dummy drum loop track. This ensures that the timing of the draft track is set to a specific beat. The beats per minute (bpm) is adjustable in the program. In my case, the draft track is usually guitar. Once this is done, you can add the other tracks (bass, vocals, keyboards etc etc) using the draft track and the bpm as the foundation for "building" the song.

In THIS song though, Feter's original track didn't sound like it had been done to a metronome (although remarkably consistent in timing, not quite consistent enough), so timing became a real issue which caused me to have to cut and slide various parts of Mike's drum track and my bass track to fit as well as possible with the original.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, make sure you record using at least a metronome track - my preference is a drum loop track as it's easier to hear.

Timing issues aside, this was a really good example of what MJ is about - a great song recorded in the Middle East with backing from around the world.

Peace,
Neil

Lovely .. &mdash 01/31/08 - 06:55:25 AM
.. to hear this gathering. Solid performances all round .. gave me hints of a slowed down "brown eyed girl" in
the verses at times. I particularly liked how Vic made the slide guitar sound fiddle-esque... fitted in splendidly with the harmonica .. and it has a spiritual/inspirational quality to it too.

My only nits are the amount of reverb on Feter's voice (a bed source issue?) .. it seems
a little incongruous with all the other instruments/voices in and reverbed a little lighter.. and the emphasis placed (repeats) on the only line of the lyrics I can't fathom "could be with muddly sky" ..
I'm all muddlied up! ;o)

Minor things needless to say, that didn't marr my overall enjoyment of this rather dandy collaboration.

My interpretation... &mdash 01/31/08 - 08:44:45 AM
