Description:
This is a song about not falling into the trap.
One of my older songs written in 1989 and recoded 2 years later. I just brought it into the digital age and tweaked the mast a little, but essentially it is as recorded on the original master.
Hope you like it
Ed
Lyrics:
Love Somebody Badly
Words, Music and Arrangement By Edward C. Wemmerus Sr.

Verse
Baby you don't like my pick-up truck,
and you don't like my style
You want me to be your play thing
And hold you for a while
It doesn't seem to matter that
You think I'm not your kind
Your tired of sitting home alone
You'd rather waste my time
Chorus
I'd rather love somebody badly,
than listen to you squall
Baby you give love a bad name
cause you don't care at all
I'd rather love somebody badly
Than love no one at all
So when you come down from your high horse,
baby give me a call.
Verse
You don't like my cowboy hat
Or the kind of clothes I wear,
Bit if all you want's a one night stand
I not sure why you'd care
You think that as a lover
I must be second rate
Ah but what the hell, it's just a fling
just another date
Bridge
Well your wearing all you fancy clothes
And flashing diamond rings
Ya drive a brand new Cadillac
But it don't mean a thing
Cause when your cold and lonely
In the middle of the night
I know you gonna really need
For me to hold you tight
Repeat Chorus
Tag lines:
when you come down from your high horse
baby, give me a call

Thanks Feter &mdash 01/30/08 - 11:05:13 PM
Glad you dropped in to listen. It's another one of my earlier songs from the 91-92 period. It was one of the first songs I tried to produce for myself and it came out fairly well. It sounds a lot better now because of the tweaking I can do to it in Garage Band but it would probably sound even better if I just redid the whole song again.
Anyway, thank you for the kind words Feter and for listening. Be well my friend

Polly Pedestal, God I love it Bob &mdash 01/31/08 - 07:22:16 PM
There has to be a song in that title somewhere !
I figured a picture of a great looking older Cowboy Cadillac was just what the Doctor ordered for this song. I looked and looked for a really great picture like this one, but with some young stud cowboy standing next to in if his Friday night, I'm going out dancing best on but could not find one anywhere on the net. So I settled for the pic I have here. Great looking old 72 Chevy pickup.
Thanks for your kind words Bob they are truly appreciated and give endless encouragement for me to go on.
Be well my friend and keep putting out that music man

The Caddy... &mdash 02/01/08 - 10:49:14 AM
...would be nice...but I've got a special place in my heart for these old trucks. Used to ride around in the back of my friend's '60 Chevy pickup when I was in junior high and high school. Rain, shine, heat, freezing cold. It was the seat of honor back there. [ Reply to This ]
Oh yeah, the seat of honor &mdash 02/01/08 - 04:52:33 PM
For me that was shotgun in my best friends 1953 Ford Victoria Convertible. It didn't matter if it was 10 below zero, the top went down and we were cruising the boulevard with the radio blasting out what ever the current top 40 was on the AM only radio. FM was just a clint in the eye of some station manager at that time cause no one had a radio to play it on. Those were the days my friend, those were the days.
See ya

if hank williams were around he'd be singin like this.....great song with its gentle swing and lowdown voice......harmony is classic.....enjoyed it much...thanks for sharing!! [ Reply to This ]
Thanks McBoy &mdash 01/31/08 - 07:33:37 PM
Mighty glad you stopped in and gave a listen here, and found something you like. As to whether Hank would be singing like this, I get the feeling it'd be a bunch better with him doing it. But that's ok, cause we need to give the greats their due, and then build on their work when we can.
Thanks again for the kind words Mc and for stopping by. It is much appreciated and encouraging to have any comparison where Hank's name is mentioned.
Be well my friend

I owned that truck. Country music is often about a clever turn of phrase. Loving somebody badly, than no one at all...........that's good. Now you've gotta do something with Polly Pedestal!
Good job Ed!

Thanks Joe &mdash 02/01/08 - 03:45:14 PM
I had an old 73 Chevy Pickup that was in really nice shape like this one is, and stupid me, I let it get away from me.
Polly Pedestal is gonna take some doing, but the ideas are floating around in the vacuum inside my skull as we speak. Maybe while she's in there she'll bump into my brain and something good will come out. We can always hope.
Thanks for the kind words Joe, they are appreciated. I wish turning a phrase was as simple as turning the wheel on the 72 Chevy.
Be well my friend.

I'm gonna take that hook and go fishing with it one of these days. Maybe I'll catch and A&R man or a Producer or something like that.
Thanks for the kind words Dick, I really appreciate it. By the way along with Polly Pedestal, is a song called "Remember" rolling around in there looking for a hook and a verse. I'm working on it guys.
Be well my friend

Whooohooo! Ed, &mdash 02/01/08 - 07:57:49 AM
Those harmonies are to die for... love them. The song and the lyrics as always are excellent. That's what I like about Country.. you could sing about a Gas Stove and it would still sound right... I love those story songs, regards M [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Maurice &mdash 02/01/08 - 04:07:20 PM
I have a confession to make to all of you about my song writing. The stories I tell in songs come to me very easily because I listen to the voices in my head. You know, the ones that say "Don't Shoot" about 80% of the time. My typical response to them is to ask "Why Not", but they never answer that question.
GOTCHA lollollollollol
Thanks in particular for you comments on the harmony parts. As you know they can be a real bother to do sometimes, but when they work, they can take a song to a new level. Your noticing them helps make me want to continue using them when I can, even though they are a pain in the a** to do sometimes.
I know I could make a song about having Gas, but I'm not to sure about a Gas Stove. I'll sick that one in with Polly Pedestal and Remember and see what comes out. Maybe something about "Remember when Polly Pedestal Burned the house down with the Gas Stove, or something to that effect. Maybe I could base it on "Jumping Jack Flash" by the Stones!
Thanks again Maurice for the kind words, I'll share it with my friends. lol
Be well my friend

glad to see that you have posted a new (old) one.Another well-written song. You have a unique style- I can hear lots of influences but it really sounds like you.Great! [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Mark &mdash 02/03/08 - 10:15:49 AM
Sometimes I'm very reluctant to post some of the old stuff because the audio quality was sadly lacking and the production and arranging were amateur at best back then. But then I think to myself I'm among friends here and they understand about the learning curve involved with this thing we do called music.
So I suck it up and see if I can improve on the original recordings by supplementing it with some new rhythm tracks, maybe a bass line or drum part and maybe a guitar part or two. Then I throw caution to the wind and post away.
It never fails to amaze me how kind and generous my fellow musicians are here on MacJams or how well these old song are received. It is encouraging to me and I'd like to thank you Mark, and all of you for you kind reception of my life's work. Not much to show for a lifetime of putzing around with music I guess, but with the help and encouragement of all of you I'm sure there will be more and better things in the future.
Thanks again Mark for your support. Your friend !

Thanks for the kind words and the new saying. I'll find plenty of places to use that one. Glad you dropped in and found something you thought well of Bud.
Be well my friend and enjoy the journey as much as the destination.

Another Round &mdash 02/11/08 - 03:51:09 PM
... sitting here drinking a Labatt's Blue, and feeling like a few more. It's amazing how you can take me out of cold, cold Vermont and plant me in some Southern roadhouse when things are just getting interesting.
I gotta say, I was sold on the first line - that was a killer, and it never flagged from there. Superb feel and harmonies with a classic touch of Ernest Tubb.
As far as posting 'old' stuff... I once swore that all of my 80's-era 'weird-hair' music would go to my grave with me, but I've posted a few here and been amazed at the response too. In retrospect my attitude towards the old stuff has changed as well; I've started to see them as part of an era and my contribution to it, not as 'good' or 'bad' or what have you. Like many of us have discovered; it's the journey we're really singing about, not the destination.
And hey, why wouldn't she like your truck? That's one very fine 72 Chevy. [ Reply to This ]
Thanks Rik &mdash 02/11/08 - 08:43:53 PM
I've made that kind of declaration too, right up until I found MacJams and a few other sites. At first I just posted what I thought were the very best I had to offer. But then I discovered I could use GB and Cubase to tweak some of the other ones, like this one here, and they started to sound like maybe I should go ahead and post them. To my utter amazement most of them were received very well. I guess it just goes to show that none of us are near as smart about what other people like as we think we are. I know now that I'm not.
Like you said "Like many of us have discovered; it's the journey we're really singing about, not the destination." Good words to live by Rik.
Thanks again for the kind words. I guess we share a little more than just a song or two. Probably true for more people here that we could guess.
Oh yeah, by the way, I wouldn't mind having the Chevy truck either.
Be well my friend
