Description:
I have read that this song goes all the way back to the turn of the century and got it's start in vaudville. If so I am sure it was in a much different form. I learned it from the Lovin Spoonful who got it from the black Memphis jug bands. In an effort to make it more contemporary, I have rewritten a lot of the lyrics and unintentionally probably changed the melody some too. Hope you enjoy in the spirit it is offered up. Fun and humor!
Lyrics:
Well a rich gal, she'll drink that Wild TurkeyAnd a poor gal will drink Jim Beam
But my gal she's drinkin old shoe polish
And she gets drunk just the same
(Chorus:)
Well I'll be there in the morning if I live
I'll be there in the morning if I don't get killed
If I never, no more see you again
Be sure to remember me
Well a rich gal will ride in a Mercedes Benz
And a poor gal will be in a Ford
But my gal is walking all over town
With her thumb out and a very short skirt
A rich gal when she's fighting, she'll bop you with a stick
And a poor gal will hit you with a rock
But my gal has a rusty old razor
And she'll run you all over town
(Chorus)
Well a rich gal willl kiss you, she'll kiss you real nice
Poor gal she do quite the same
But my gal she'll lay one right on you
And you'll pass out before she's through
(Chorus)

It is so nice to hear you playing and singing a good old folk tune again. There has been a long time since I have heard a new tune from you. This is also the first song that i listen to on my brand new macbook, what a good start! The singing and the playing is wonderful, just the way i like a good Bronco perfermance! I have never heard the original, and i dont need to since i got this one! Thanks!
bronco

Enjoy your phrasing here. Enjoy that soul bronco blues style, the almost Hank Williams jr souful singing and the list continues.
Thanks for sharing !

Hey Bill, good to hear from you! Yeah, you know how I like those old songs. Hell I even liked old songs when I was young. Keep thinking that I am going to come up with a more polished sound one of these days but it will probably never happen. Glad I have a few fans like you that enjoy what I do have.
This vintage Tom Bronco hits the spot, glad to hear from you again. nice harp work, too
production note - the balance dwells on the left, then bleeds to the right every once in a while?

Hey there Harold! Doing okay, just needed a little rest from posting. Afraid I have neglected my playing also but I am trying to get back into it. Good to hear from you!
Feter
Man I love it ...jammin with you must be a top cool
think ...the bluesiest folkie sound here ..I just
loved this harp answerin your voice ..this is the
real man blues ...KUDOS !!!!
bronco
Hey Feter,
Yeah I like jammin more than I do recording and it probably shows in my posts. There is just something so great about making up a solo as you go or even improvising lyrics. And then there is the give and take between the people you jam with. Lots of fun! I'm afraid I view recording as more like work although the end product is sometimes enjoyable.
Wow! Great harp sound. Love it.
Yes I agree with everything feter said too.
another for my ipod.

Thanks Dee! Glad you enjoyed it and it is a privilege to be on your ipod.

...The Lovin' Spoonful's version. I loved them...
This does it justice, too, bronco...really enjoyed this...thanks.

This reminds me of a guy I used to record in my old studio. It's amazing what can be accomplished with only guitar, vocals, and a harmonica.
Nice post

I found your page- you've got lots of soul.Your voice reminds me of Paul Rishell, one of my all-time favorite musicians.I always wanted to be able to sing blues and old tunes like this but unfortunately I was not blessed with a good voice.Great version of a great song!

This is a great song! I can't wait to download it and put it on my iPod! Are you playing that mouth harp, man? One instrument I can NOT master!
Thanks so much for posting!

Thanks for the comments Stacey and it is a privilige to be on your iPod! Yes, it is all me on the song, all instruments including the harmonica. Love John Prine, flattered to be mentioned in the same light as him.
