Lonely

Written by Lisa Parrish and Performed by Bridge Creek
- Lisa Parrish, vocals, guitar
- David Weatherby, lead guitar, vocals
- Alan Crouch, bass, vocals
- James Moore, drums

Lisa wrote Lonely in the style of her idol, Emmylou Harris. It is a staple of Bridge Creek's live set, where people raise their glasses and sing along all the way to "the bottom of the bottle."

Special thanks to James Moore from England, who played great drums on the studio track - cheers, mate! The live version of Lonely features our wonderful drummer Dean Thurston from Portland, Oregon.

From Feb 1 to 28, please vote online at http://www.kink.fm f or the KINK FM 101.9 favorite local band and song in Portland Oregon. Lyrics:
(c) 2007 Lisa Parrish

Life can be so complicated
One minute I love it, the next I hate it
My only friend is my misery
I'm as low as lonely can be

You said your love would always last
Forgive me then if I can't get past
Those three little words they meant something to me
I'm as low as lonely can be

Chorus
So take me down
To the bottom of this bottle
I'm not done till I drown
I'm as low as lonely can be

I don't know what to do
But someday I'll get over you
I'm too tired to get some sleep
I'm as low as lonely can be

Thank you kindly, Feter! Yes you can vote. We just had a friend in Northampton UK vote, so it is OK to vote if you don't live in Oregon. Just go to http://www.kink.fm and register for the online community (there is a link on the home page). Once you register you will see a link for the Favorite Local Bands contest. Just vote for Bridge Creek, and Lonely. That's it! I appreciate you taking the time. Don't leave me lonely &mdash 02/02/08 - 01:40:12 PM
I haven't felt so lonely since the miller sang his song about lonely nights and lonely songs. Hey, this is a fine song in a genre that you suddenly almost make me want to appreciate. I keep thinking, don't go C/W. But here is a compelling reason to do so. Such presence and pathos!

Nicely done! &mdash 02/02/08 - 05:39:56 PM
Solid singing and playing on a cool country song. Lovely clean recording - you mention "studio", does that mean you've done it in a pro studio? If it's a "home studio" recording, I am very impressed with the mix and balance you've achieved.
Lovely vocal Lisa.
Cheers from Oz,
Neil

too good for the genre &mdash 02/03/08 - 10:16:40 AM
Solidly crafted song here... really well played and sung. Has a nice slow swagger, almost a dirge. Lisa's got a silky soft voice, perfect for this. The lyrics' meter fit perfectly. I may have to rethink my bias against C&W :-)

...meant as humor... &mdash 02/03/08 - 03:18:18 PM
by the way, my "poke fun at myself" style of humor is sometimes so subtle (that is, badly worded) that it is not taken as humor. I hope you know that I was trying to be funny and was trying to say that "I don't normally like C&W genre, but this is better than what I think of as music from that genre". I was not putting down C&W or your music at all, quite the opposite... just that I seem to be missing out on a lot of good music by having this mis-placed preconceived notion of that style of music.

One of the things I like about MJ is it stretches me into areas of music I don't listen to much of, and I always learn a lot. So, thank you!

Drakonis

All Good &mdash 02/07/08 - 01:50:44 AM
Drakonis,
Thank you kindly for listening, and sharing your thoughts. Yes your feedback made sense and the humor is appreciated! We're a fun-loving bunch, and it's nice to connect with someone else who is enjoying the ride, open to new ideas, and taking it all in stride (without taking it too seriously).
All the best,
Alan

Lonely by BridgeCreek. &mdash 02/03/08 - 06:42:56 PM

Yeah I know the feeling
you can be in the presence of lots of people but still feel lonely as lonely can be. I really liked your voice it felt really mellow and flowed along nicely. But then again i am no expert but i know what i like and what pleases my two ears and this is good. More than good its great.

It blended beautifully and besides I love country
lyrics worked well all flowed along nicely. Well done guys.
Now wheres that bottle. lol

I don't know what it is &mdash 02/04/08 - 09:41:22 PM
but I've been hearing some mighty fine country and this sounds nice as well. This has nice lyrics but I think what makes a strong country song is the the background singing and this has that special feeling with that. Plus nice guitar work, nice lead singing and the list goes on.

Thanks for sharing. I know Mj needs more nice country music like this especially female country. Not enough of that around these parts for sure :)

Thanks for sharing, Cool lyric theme "I'm as lonely as lonely can be" .

Thanks for sharing!!

Nice to meet you &mdash 02/21/08 - 01:45:46 AM
and thanks for your comments. Lisa, David, and I work hard on those harmonies, so I'm glad you liked them. We had a blast recording this song with James, and Dean is great to play live with (even if I need to make him sandwiches). We try to have a lot of fun our here in Portland Oregon and not take ourselves too seriously. We have a couple other tunes in a "country" vein which I'll try to get posted. We're also playing a bunch of different styles right now, from Blues to Jazz, to Swing, to Pink Floyd sounding tunes. So I guess you could say we're a diverse bunch - but its all fun.
Cheers,
-- Alan

Well now .... &mdash 02/09/08 - 12:32:41 AM
.. any song that references "drinking to the bottom of the bottle" has got to capture my attention .... I used to listen to a lot of country music before my son was born (um ... 13 years ago) ... and have kinda fallen away from it over the years (no time any more for two-steppin in those country bars) .... but it was nice to listen to this ... it took me back to a fun time in my life (and a skinnier time) .... Lovely vocal Lisa ... complete with the right amount of country twang. The mixing sounded pro to my ears!

we appreciate you stopping by to listen. Glad you liked the country feel - Lisa had to let out her inner Emmylou on this one :)

Not so lonely anymore, are ya? &mdash 02/20/08 - 12:45:39 PM
Looks like you've got lots of admirers now... not so lonely any more, are ya? Haha. Beautiful vox, nice acoustic guitar soloing, pushes the edge a bit on "rural" with that delay... but sounds great. Like the well-balanced rhythm acoustic, it's all good.

well done &mdash 05/06/08 - 05:26:09 PM
My first reaction to this song, honestly, was "Dr. Seuss rhymes" and that it was a bit predictable and such. Having said that, by the time I was done listening, the overall feel of the song and, perhaps especially, the guitar work, brought me to a happier conclusion. It just felt good!

I love a good "Sad country song" much as anyone. Probably my favorite of the sub-genres within country music.

In the final conclusion, at least for me, I would like to see more substance in the lyrics. The verses don't tell too much about the singer (other than that she's sad). I want to see some interesting word play and/or some deeply personal insights ... not just "your love would last, I can't get past".

I love the vocals, both lead and harmony, and the third line of the chorus has an interesting structure to it.

Well done.
