Song Description

i don't care

Lyrics:
The Apathy Song

ask me if i care no
ask me if i care no
ask me if i care no
i don't really care

~~~~
don't you care buddy?
don't you give a darn?
don't you care sonny?
ain't you riled up?
don't you give a hoot?
don't you care?
aren't you fed up?
you're a yella belly.
don't you care buddy?
you mad as a wet hen?
where's your gumption?
don't you care sonny?
don't you care?
I absolutely &mdash 02/03/08 - 05:16:25 PM
love this Bill. Great and moving song and a real inspiration to use a bolero style.
Cheers
Len
thanks!
what an interesting song &mdash 02/03/08 - 08:27:25 PM
You make an interesting point about apathy and the reaction that overall apathy causes. There is an almost John Lennon feel to this song in some ways.
i'm never sure where a song will go when i work on one
there are serious, sad, silly, and sanguine things all stirred up in there
thanks
Really well put together &mdash 02/04/08 - 01:57:54 AM
Not that I care though.
Cheers
by the way, the song picture is of the aftermath of a forest fire
there's a good reason for that, but for the life of me, i can't recall...
nice song &mdash 02/04/08 - 01:30:34 PM
i really like the strings at the beginning,and all of the instrumentation changes make this all the more affecting. great song.
the whole build up and production is meant to be over the top - in stark contrast to the sentiment of the words
i'm not exactly sure how i arrived at that
the two ukuleles are strummed in different, perhaps conflicting, patterns. just thought it sounded interesting... maybe it hints at the incongruity of this song.
i tend to mix opposites a lot, sometimes it works, sometimes, not.
thank you
care package &mdash 02/04/08 - 08:36:14 PM
enjoyable, but i think you care :)
For some good reason it brings to mind a blend of ELO & 10cc. thats a cool thing to me!
i generally liked ELO - their mix of orchestral sound with pop/rock was very innovative at the time. certainly an influence for me
thanks
Well... &mdash 02/06/08 - 10:08:30 PM
...well...
:)
"sonny"...very funny...
Have you ever considered studying orchestration, Bill? This would sound absolutely incredible with a full live orchestra. Seriously...
that "voice in your ear" needed to be like the old timers from that scene in the bar in Back To The Future III. "Ever' body, ever where, will say Clint Eastwood is the biggest yeller belly in the west."
(Was that Slim Pickens? Harry Carey? Pat Bertram?)
~~~

wow, a live orchestra. that sure seems like an unattainable dream.

but now you've got me thinking...

Bill... &mdash 02/07/08 - 06:30:18 AM
You have an amazing breadth of musical interest, and, well, 'life interest', for lack of a better term. I constantly find myself thinking that you have to be one interesting guy...

One prolific guy, too...

Ed

Some pretty sophisticated humor in your work...

the core idea for this song occurred to me while driving to work. when i arrived i sent myself an email with the chords, melody and words.

i also knew it needed a voice talking in one ear timed so that the main melody singing "no" would be a sort of answer to some questions. i only had thought of "don't you care sonny" at that point.

i don't know exactly what's serious and what's silly in this. it's way overdone - that's for sure.

thanks

Pretty Lush &mdash 02/08/08 - 08:26:46 AM
Nice opening on this, with a great lyric that plays very well off the (clearly) careful composition/orchestration. Cheerful and gentle. Hats off.

i did spent a bit of time on this one

but there is a mistake in the mix. at 24 seconds the level drops for no apparent reason. i think i accidentally doubled the notes in the first portion of the harp part, so the notes are twice as loud as the rest up to that point... oh well

thanks

The orchestral arrangement &mdash 02/10/08 - 09:09:29 AM
has, to me, the feel of a good western soundtrack. This is really well put conceived and executed - clearly done with a lot of .......care? Kudos!

Cheers,
Doug

funny you should say that! see earlier comments about Back To The Future...

maybe that's part of the explanation of this song.

thank you
