this Bill. Wonderful instrumentation, great reggae feel (which I love) and your always excellent production make this a definite download for me.

I never really thought about the fact that it does have a sort of Reggae feel too it. I guess it shows how universal music can be.

Yeah its very original lots of different sounds going on. but they all seem to work,
pulsating beat- drums sound good too. Very hypnotic.

cool piece Bill.

armour plated heavy tune with some heavy artillery through this.

Good description &mdash 02/04/08 - 10:34:42 PM
In places it does sound like artillery doesn't it?

Thanks for the comment.

really cool tune! &mdash 02/04/08 - 10:42:10 PM
i get a bit of a barry adamson feel from it. like something he might have created for oedipus or maybe the lost highway soundtrack. nicely done! love the bass groove!

Not familiar &mdash 02/05/08 - 09:10:54 AM
I am not familiar with Adamson's work but , because you mentioned him, I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the visit, the listen and the comment.

BRAVO &mdash 02/05/08 - 07:30:35 PM
you sure do a lot with a bass and a beat, bill.
the underlying rumble of heavy power goes nicely with the lighter eastern curving feel. i like that synthy ah ah thing starting at 2:00.
good use of minimal passages here and there. 3:11 transition thing was COOL and you gave this a fantastic conclusion. thanks for another swell sonic trip out of my normal world,
anne

And as always thanks for the comments. As you know, I try to keep my arrangements interesting and, if I can, a little bit unpredictable but yet still accessible because of some of the structural elements. I'm glad you picked up on some of these elements and liked them.

Interesting pic announcer &mdash 02/05/08 - 10:25:12 PM
ya, has that funky caravan feel. Like they way they boogie, enjoy the jungle sound, with that hammond organ type sounds that really get funky in contrast to the other sounds.

Way to go

An oleo for sure &mdash 02/06/08 - 07:04:35 AM
It is a real mixture of sounds here I must admit. But I was really pleased with the way it came out.

I really like the rhythm you have in this one... Some time simply is the best.
Thanks for sharing D-loaded.

Really appreciate the download on your part. Seems to me that is the highest compliment cause it means you may listen to it again and then maybe again.

Winner! &mdash 02/10/08 - 10:29:32 PM
Bill, It really finds the groove and then just keeps driving. I bet everyone who listens to this piece is thinking "Why can't I get my drum tracks to sound like that?" Your professional production skills really shine through.
Whatever the mind of Bill conceives, the mind of Bill achieves. This makes a good running (or driving) song.

Good job,
Stephen

The drums on this track are something that I like a lot too. In general I work hard on the drum tracks on all my songs. some of them are midi, some are real instrument loops but and some tracks are combinations of the two. Some of the production techniques I will use sometimes include doubling the track and applying a heavy gate to one of the tracks so that I can increase the thump in the kick without making it flabby. With just part of the hit coming through on the one track it can make stuff fatter. I also like to put symbol from a midi track on in certain places so to add interest. I'll often go through the song and ad fills and modified fills in some places too. I end up using a short reverb sometimes on one track and leaving another dryer to increase the fatness of a track. Another trick I'll use on occasion is to double the track later in the song but move the second track down a beat in the measure to in effect created a build in the track by making the drummer play double time. Of course the proper amount of compression and EQ also helps.

This is great &mdash 02/12/08 - 11:55:43 AM
i've spent some time listening to you this morning, wow, you're very gifted. This piece has a driving beat that pulls you in and keeps your attention. Glad i found you!

Way too kind. &mdash 02/12/08 - 08:09:46 PM
Thanks for the kind words but gifted is way to strong a word. I've got some mixing ability and perhaps an ear for music and arranging and what works together but I am far from gifted in the same way so many people here on MacJams are. I do appreciate the fact that you took some time to listen however.

best ... bill
