This is really a combination of blues and rock. A laid back rock ballad with blues touches. One more song based on a real story turned into a poem and then into lyrics.

.. an interesting sound you got there.
I get that slightly unsettling thing too .. it's perhaps the gritty, seedyness .. mixed with the occassionally
more romantic reminiscent lyric... gives a certain creepy quality.
I like dialects in songs sung in English, it adds spice .. and this is no exception .. for a poor comparison I envisage Antonio Banderas after joining Dire Strait's band in a song, the Sultans of Swing... in some bizarre way... so pay no heed.
