Description:
Written by Jelly Roll Morton, I seem to remember reading somewhere that this dates from about 1907, though not too sure about that. Jelly was a virtuoso player who died in 1941. He is generally acknowledged as the first real jazz composer. The song it'self is about as rude as it gets in it's original form, - being surpassed only by Lucielle Bogan's , Shave 'em dry , which is definately as rude as it gets. Wining Boy Blues is not strictly speaking a blues. This version is a cleaned up version. Janis Joplin also recorded this song in 1962.

This version recorded -Sunday Aug 26, 2007 | 5:57 PM at Druid's Bunion in South Wales.

lots of talent here. Singin and playin that sounds very pro sounding.
This is so polished. Love the in club sound here. I thought it had a live sound, then I read the last sentence. Wow again. Great job recording this the way it was.

Again so entertaining and polished.
Not sure if I've heard any better at what you do here with this tune at MJ.

Way to go!!!!!

Thank you Len and Dee and thank you Helen, one day I'd like to go on a pilgrimage to New York where Jelly made some of his famous Victor cuts in the mid 1920's just to be there. Oh wouldn't that be wonderful.

I'm so late listening to this, but I'm really pleased I caught up with it. Such wonderful piano playing and the vocal is wonderful sounding so authentically from a past era. Love these sort of songs, regards M

Nice playing. Love that Naw'leens phashizille razzle-dazzle piano style (you know what i mean) ... Voice is sweet and natural. A pleasure and an education. You're good to go.
