Description:
I've been playing around with this chord progression for probably over a year. Now that I can record, I decided to try it out in garageband, but I couldn't get the song to sound like I wanted in my head, I think it's cuz I laid the guitar rythm part down first. After a week of frustration, I scrapped the whole idea and started over, this is the same chord progression, but I played the drum loops first and the bass line second. It made all the difference in the world to me.

I learned to delete parts of drum loops I don't like and played around with that this time. I now think I'll need a new interface so I can mike my instruments and especially so I can start recording my rhodes. My tracks sound like they're missing something, and that's what it is.... (besides the fact that I need to work on my chops...too much videogame playing...)

Also I played the first part of the solo guitar with a pick and the secont part, after the octave's, fingerstyle to see if there's much difference in tone. Can anyone tell?

Thanks for listening.
B

Its interesting to hear other people going through some of the same experiences with their recording. Getting an interface is a big thing. How are you putting your guitar into GB now? I like the jazzy latin feel on this one. I only noticed the change in style after you pointed it out.

still using the RP350 for everything. It'll be months before I can afford to add any other hardware. I just think a nice interface will suit me better. I get great tone out of my amp, so I'd rather do that. I can't find the same tone in GB. So I think I'll start looking for a good interface that takes XLRs and buy a Shure mic like everyone else.

I worked in a recording studio 30 years ago and they always used a Shure SM-57 at a 45 degree angle on the guitar amp. Then I worked on a stage crew for an outdoor event a couple of years ago and the sound tech did the same thing for the lead guitarist. I guess some things don't need to change.

I appreciate the comments on the bass playing. I think I'm naturally a bass player cuz I love the groove, but I grew up in the 80's. Watching "Crossroads" and Eddie Van Halen and George Lynch, etc. at an impressionable young age made me feel like I have to be a guitar stud.

i've recently developed an interest in Brazilian jazz - your song was a pleasant find.

wow &mdash 02/11/08 - 07:45:40 PM
you make your own instruments? It sounds pretty good for the most part, though some parts sound a little out of tune (Im no expert). I have to say I find it very relaxing. Thanks for sharing.

I love the Lounge-Lizard feel. Makes me feel very relaxed. Hope you don't mind if I download. This is going straight to the iPod. Another great song to help me study for some tests. THANKS.

there's a hint of the band 'War'- remember them, also semi-Santana- hey it sounds pretty good to me, heaps of space & a funky groove.... really nice and laid back- WELL DONE!

Cheers,

Alf

thanks for the note &mdash 02/21/08 - 12:25:52 AM
i appreciate the feedback. that was one of the things bothering me is that I couldn't figure out how to record the space with a metronome ticking in the background. It's good to know it translates better than I thought it would.

Very Nice &mdash 02/27/08 - 06:22:05 AM
The guitar sound is really nice. I would like to hear more of the rhythm guitar track near the end. Is everything panned center? Sounds like it is. Maybe you could experiment with panning the rhythm guitar off to one side a little bit.

I really like the percussion entrance near the end - it ads a nice variety to the loop. Overall, very nice - thanks for sharing.

yep &mdash 02/27/08 - 11:30:52 AM
I've never tried to pan anything yet. I don't get it. I feel I would throw everything off balance. I also cut the rythm part out at various points because it was getting tedious to my ears.

Hmm. I'll definitely have to start playing with the panning of the instruments though.

Thanks
