Description:
Maybe a lot of people associate Louis Armstrong with commercial-type music like "What a Wonderful World"(Which has the same melody as Twinkle Twinkle Little Star!)but his older music is ridiculously good.Whenever I'm in a bad mood I listen to some of his classic songs like "West End Blues" etc.Impossible not to smile.

I dig it! I was wondering why the envelope filter, but then I got images of a trumpet player holding a plunger at the end of his instrument making the same sounds. Good stuff. Nice techniqe too. I wish I was that good.
Ibstrat
there is an envelope filter on this-but the Tone Port does have some weird compression on it that i can't seem to get rid of.Just checked out "Guitar Wanker".Great playing!
Moviz
light and airy and you have such a great 'quality' sound in your recordings. I could just imagine Louis singing this with that 'off the beaten track' syncopated ad lib in the middle. Just wonderful,....... and who besides you knew that 'Twinkle .....'and 'Wonderful World' were the same tune LOL you're right they are. We learn something every day, regards M
Ibstrat
I'd love to have you sing over one of my tracks at some point. If I get anything together I'll let you know.

...I'm a big fan of Mr. Armstrong...really fine rendition, Mark. Keep that thumb steady while the rest moves right along......thanks for posting.
Ibstrat
Bob-I 'preciate it.
Ibstrat

classic from you Mark. Love the guitar tone on this and you seem to have lost that buzz sound.
The playing is as usual faultless and it's a very catchy and lively tune. Thanks for a really lovely and refreshing listen.
Cheers

Louis Armstrong. Great picking Mark and I think I detected a twinkle in your eye while you were playing it.
Nice piece of work Mark, thanks for sharing it.

Ibstrat
from the ceiling did fall into my eye while I was playing I'm not sure how you heard that. Thanks for listening again!

You capture such a light playful tone in style and sound. bravo
Ibstrat
liked it.Thanks!

...that you would stop bombarding us with tunes that are, frankly, slaves to melody, harmony and rhythm...
On the plus side, playing with those weights on your thumbs seems to have really helped...
Seriously, sir, every time I listen to you play my spirits are lifted and my taste is broadened...
Ed
Ibstrat
not that hard when you take the chord progression from an old song and write a new melody.(An original concept that I recently came up with- I don't think it's ever been done before)How did you know that I've been working out with thumb weights?
droop
You got that right, especially with your wonderful version. Sure was something magical about the music of those times. Great tone, great playing, great style.........well just great.
thanks
Ibstrat
checked out your page-that's some major talent! Thanks for the comment.

Top playing Mark - and that's no great surprise! So many notes/so few fingers :) I can't imagine what level of discipline it takes to reach this level of playing. I still think you could improve your recording though (although this seems to be more "alive" than some others of yours). But that's maybe just me :)
Absolutely incredible playing - as Fran would say, deepest bows!

I don't know anything about recording.Wish I could drop over to Australia and you could help me out!My total investment in recording equipment so far amounts to $300 and I kind of barely know how to use it.(Abelton)I think I need to get some sort of Mastering software- I've been using the "normalize" function on Wavelab to raise the level but it seems to come out kind of distorted. If you have any suggestions let me know!
Thanks for your nice comments about the song,I very much appreciate it.
VicDiesel
This is a bit like that "stride piano" tune you wrote a while ago, and then there are the little solo licks, which I can imagine "pops" playing. Great stuff and a very nice tribute.
Ibstrat
Vic- I always appreciate your comments.

Everything you do is spectacular, and goes right to my iPod. Thank you for your gifts, which flow so naturally from your fingers.
This song, while light in mood, is done with a master's touch, and succeeds in elevating the listener, just as you intended.
Your talent continues to amaze me.
Ibstrat
me of the Seinfeld episode when Elaine's boyfriend insists on being called "Maestro" because he conducts a community orchestra.I certainly don't consider myself a master-but I'm really glad you like listening to my music. Thanks!
music that one can listen to...
and you do it so well. Lovely guitar. Great take on an oldie but goodie.
thanks.
Ibstrat
so much for the comment.I appreciate it!

Nice piece, Mark and well-played... as usual. This is a terrific tribute to one of the most important figures in 20th Century music.
Yes, old Satchmo's unique brand of music was an inspiration for a lot of white musicians, like Bing Crosby, who wanted to put a little pizazz in their work.
Listening to some of his old sessions is a very pleasant experience. So was this. ;)

This has a great light, live feel to it. Lots of space but sounds like you played this with a twinkle in your eye Mark!

of my complete lack of recording expertise I always record straight thru-so it is kind of live.I continue to check out everything here that has your name on it!
What a gem this is...So calm and delightful playing I wish I could play guitar like you.
Thanks for sharing

I could play like you! I love what you did on "Broadband".Thanks for the comment.
Thanks for the listening to this track.... Has a great happy feel over it... I like such guitarplay, and wish that i could so... But it's great to hear you....
Ibstrat
for your comments-much appreciated.

Chet Atkins, this has a terrific light airy sound. A feel good tune. This would be something I think Chet would love as well. It really has that feel. Even with bit of Les Paul, it seems.
Nice ending as well.
Ibstrat
guy that I listened to a lot at one point was Guy Van Duser-an amazing player. Thanks so much for your comments Bill-you are a great artist!
drakonis
The gentle ear-popping compressor that's on this recording was definitely a distraction at first, but quickly melted away as I became enveloped in the music itself... Man oh man you really know how to create a great piece of music... this just bubbles along like a Spring brook through a meadow of poppies. And your playing is both "dead-on" timing-wise and also quite fluid... not sure how you do that. In the end, it all comes together to make yet another delightful piece of yours!
ttfn,
Drakonis
Ibstrat
for the comment. Not sure how to get rid of the compressor,it seems to be built in to this Line6 thing.Glad you liked the song!

of your wonderful playing. This is sweet, charming, and melodic. I am in awe of your playing, and I'm very happy that you share these tracks with us. This will be in my head all day (and I mean that in a good way!) Cheers. Peace.

Another hot one from one of my favs. You do your stuff with love and we can feel it. Thanks for another tasteful tune.
Hope that carpo stuff is behind you or that at least your developing the muscle relaxing strategies to deal with it while your playing.
Keep that beautiful tone coming out of that unbelievable guitar with those dancing fingers.
Ibstrat
much appreciate your comments. The thing with my hand is a long story-it's a nerve problem not really muscles. It's doing ok.Glad you liked the song!

My first discovery of your music.. won't be my last. Such a breezy feel to such a rich composition. This is great, and would be jealous... instead, I'll just be appreciative.

Good style of play... And it's played in a good rhythm on the guitar.... A pleasure to listen to... A happy tune....
I'm not a huge fan of Jazz music but I can find myself loving this piece as it was my style! This is killer tune from you Mr. Mark, greatly recorded (the quality is amazing here) and the music composition skills are just at its best. Beautiful piece by all means ... You're a legend!

Had Louis and would put wonderful world but then it would move other to other tunes on the record... I listened to those a lot. Pretty good stuff without a doubt!
