Description:
I wrote this while I was staying in the HenryIV hotel in Coutras,France in Septemmber 2005. I always try an write a song when I'm away from home as it always reminds me of my stay in that place.

A fun song, though it it about a seriously nasty piece of work I used to know so I thought the least I could do was to write a song about her.

Lyrics:
Heavy Mary written by Woofer3 Sept.2005

See her coming down the street, hear the pounding of her feet,
Heavy Mary, - Heavy Mary
See her frying in the heat, trying to shed a little meat,
Heavy Mary, - Heavy Mary
Smell like an ash tray, vanilla and stale ,
Move like jelly and drink like a whale.

A little sweaty on the side , a little sweaty underneath,
Heavy Mary, - Heavy Mary,
Mary’s made from something you won’t ever want to eat
Heavy Mary, - Heavy Mary,
Mary smoke like a man all the day long,
Mary smoke in a chain ‘til they’re all gone.

Mary, Mary ,- what do you say,
How does your garden grow,
With silver bells and cockle shells,
And a desk full of ashtrays all lined up in a row.

See her coming down the street, hear the pounding of her feet,
Heavy Mary, - Heavy Mary
See her frying in the heat, trying to shed a little meat,
Heavy Mary, - Heavy Mary,
Mary smoke like a man all the day long,
Mary smoke in a chain ‘til they’re all gone.

Although I really like your very masterful piano playing of jazz/blues - I must admit to loving these great songs of yours. You really have a knack with real lyrics - a la Ray Davies.

it is these songs which make you unique and a special joy to listen to.

I feel that maybe you are posting too many too soon. People tend to listen here (in the first instance) to just your latest, comment, and then move on to the next. I am worried that your earlier songs might be being missed and that would be a big shame.

Cheers
Heavy Len

hi there Len &mdash 02/07/08 - 06:24:26 PM
I wrote this while I was in the south of France a couple of years ago. I don't really think it's the sort of thing that would ever be a hit. It just had to be written I felt and I felt so much better for having done it. This woman was dreadful with an ugly personality and a nasty nature.

I will take your advice and leave it a little while before I post anymore. I have written over six hours of music altogether, mind you some of it has sensitive subject matter.

Thanks for the generous compliments, -Ray Davies ay ? phew !!! don't know what to say, You've made my day.

Best wishes,

John.

Ha! neat song. &mdash 02/07/08 - 09:05:34 PM
Yeah some things just have to be written. I like your writing structure and I really like the groove on this. I even start hearing a little Robert Palmer
groove with the wurlitzer part there at the end. I tend to look at the lighter side of love myself.....no pun intended.

I can tell you &mdash 02/08/08 - 09:43:30 AM
- you wouldn't have loved this beauty Len, she had first refusal for the lead role in Alien, and by that I don't mean the Sigourney Weaver part, though somehow the thought of that is even funnier....

Glad you like the song, I appreciate your comments and thank you.

Fun song! &mdash 02/08/08 - 07:14:58 PM
Coincidence that a song about "Heavy Mary" would have so much bass as low end? I think not! :)

Love the emphasis on backing vocals and how the accentuate the lead so well.

Good to have aboard here at Macjams!

Wonderful little pop song. Sounds simple and innocent but the lyrics are not all that innocent, and simplicity is hard to pull off convincingly. You did very well. Good writing and great performance.

Reminds me a bit like Joe Walsh. You know what I mean. Very, very good changes. I really thinks this an excellent song. Really catchy. I'll have to promote you here at MJ.

all of you who have commented on this song I'd like to say thank you. 'Tis much appreciated, I'd never thought of my stuff sounding like Ray Davies or Pink Floyd's music to be honest, but that's a very flattering comparison. When I wrote it I had Frank Zappa in mind, you know the sort of Bobby Brown fun period of the late 70's to early 80's.

You've made my day,

John.

Dug this one. The reminders of other artists have been stated, but it has it's own flavor too.
Dug the instrumental ideas that very much helped to make the picture of this song come alive.
Fun tune.

Welcome to MJ Len! &mdash 02/13/08 - 02:41:07 PM
Damiengh put me onto this one. I really like this - great lyrics and a rhythm and structure that sucks you in. I hear the R.D. connection and also the R.P. one - I'll add Jethro Tull, mainly because of the lyrics.

I really like how you use your voice, and while there are probably aspects of the production I'd do a little differently, it works really well as it is.

The humor is all U.K. My Anglophile wife has got to listen to you. When she does she may be headed across the big blue to camp out on your doorstep.

Truly amazing work!

thanks for spending so much of your time listening to my music and even more for taking time to comment on it. Your words mean a great deal to me. I'm glad you liked this particular one, - it was born in France and is the only one of my children who is French, though my ancestors on my mother's side of my family it seems come from this lovely part of the world. I wish I could speak the language....

Best wishes to you Birdman,

John.
