Keywords:
Apotheosis (1)Hero (9)Journey (42)HJP (5)
Description:
The hero crouches on one knee against the cold stone floor of the ancient temple, its pillars silhouetted against the pre-dawn sky. All these trials...all the pain...and for what? The waves lapping against the slabs of the foundation far below don't answer. A breeze stirs as the sky lightens and the sense of loneliness and numbing fatigue starts to lift. There is light, and as it grows in brilliance, streaming golden through the vast archways, the hero realises why...

Lyrics:
This beautiful composition and orchestral work is all Feter's. I felt it could benefit from a little vocal background to add to its intimate, sacred feel and added the boys and full choirs. Hope you enjoy it!

The honour was mine to work with you! &mdash 02/08/08 - 08:06:37 AM
It was both fun and inspiring to have the opportunity to share how the piece moved me and reflect that back trying to stay true to your original inspiration. You are a pleasure to work with Feter.

Until our next one...
Be well,
Doug

Hi John - I'm so very glad you liked it! &mdash 02/08/08 - 08:16:49 AM
I too was drawn in by Feter's composition and felt the sadness, a kind of desolation amidst a sacred calm, but also an inner strength and confidence that lay under the piece and rose gradually to being fully known and present toward the end.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you sample some of the other works in the HJP.

Keep well,
Doug

A beautifully &mdash 02/08/08 - 04:21:45 AM
worked piece of music, tinged with pathos and yet there's strength there. Lovely work from both of you, regards M

I'm so glad we communicated to you in this way &mdash 02/08/08 - 08:38:26 AM
The strength aspect of this piece is interesting to me, in that it exists like a foundation throughout, it grows in realisation in what I hear in the violin solo, until it is finally confidently manifested in the final crescendo. I seem to recall that Feter used the words welcoming by a monarch when we were corresponding on the piece, and my interpretation was that the strength, as represented by the monarch, was there calling/welcoming the hero all along, and it was only a matter of the hero paying attention and realising it. It is for that reason that I think it fits everyone's personal hero's journey - we all have great potential that is too often buried by other concerns and thus untapped.

Thanks Maurice, and I'll step off the soap box now.... :o)

Feter does draw out the best &mdash 02/09/08 - 10:33:56 PM
Hearing his file after he mailed it to me was very stimulating. A little Logic ambience and harmonic processing, add a voice or two and here we are. Thanks for your kind words and the doff of your cap(s)!

Apotheosis - Feter & Doug &mdash 02/08/08 - 06:02:12 PM
Hi

What a 'Masterpiece' I can just imagine the scene
what a lovely musical composition with the choir like godesses hovering above the hero. feeling all is suffering and pain.
The added boys and full choir is a stroke of genius
it fits like a hand in a glove. This is a work of art.

Another on repeat for my Ipod

I am so happy that you shared this with me.

Thank you

Peace

Dee xx

You know... &mdash 02/08/08 - 06:49:49 PM
...I've been listening to your stufff...and a few others on MacJams...and I've gotta say that I'd LOVE to hear this and other pieces with a live orchestra/chorus.

I love this and can only imagine how great it would be in a live setting...

Wonderful work, folks....

I'm certainly influenced by a lot of the &mdash 02/09/08 - 11:13:18 PM
cinematic composers who are liberally using choirs to round out their compositions. I'm still scratching the surface of what the Symphonic Choirs can do, and have not tried the Word Builder software yet, but I will soon and plan to craft a new piece for the HJP with it.

And with Feter's work as muse, it was comparatively easy. :o)

Thanks for the ever encouraging comments Bob.

Keep well friend!

Powerful piece of music... &mdash 02/09/08 - 09:45:54 PM

Feter, a multi-talented musician.

An inspiring orchestral song!

violin samples &mdash 02/09/08 - 11:49:27 PM
A very nice composition. Pity I have such a hard time hearing through the violin sample. It has the strangest attack. Time to invest in a more expensive orchestral library?

Thanks for the comments Vic &mdash 02/10/08 - 01:05:24 AM
Glad you like the composition. As gitapick said, this would be cool to hear with the live orchestra and chorus. For now, Feter and I will make the best of the tools at hand.

Thanks for having a listen!

Feter's quite an amazing composer. He's definitely pulled on the emotional heartstrings here. Your suggested description fits it quite well, as does your touch with the choir, subtle change, with a powerful result. Kudos two you Two-(dos)!

this with the picture as well. I am a real choir hound, especially with newer jam pack selection. I did have the East West but they don't work in Logic. Thanks for the sounds, Loved that ending as well.

Mr. Tiler &mdash 02/11/08 - 09:32:30 PM
Great to hear from you, and thanks for the kind comments. I used EWQL Symphonic Choir with Logic 7.2, but because I have an Intel Mac had to do so through Kontakt. The good news was that I could cross-grade to Kontakt 3 from the Kompakt player that was already in the choir package so it was not as much of a shock to the old pocketbook.

I will use more choir in future pieces, but for now I have some more learning to do to get to know the package's ins and outs.

All the best!
Doug

I sure enjoy this,... &mdash 02/10/08 - 09:56:48 PM
listening now, real moving at times, at other times enchanted, then angst of arrpegiated violin, then the moving changes return, full and well bodied in contrast to the ornate that was in it. So very, very, beautiful.

This is a great collab &mdash 02/17/08 - 02:46:40 PM
The original track is excellent, Feter - wonderfully sweeping and evocative. And, Doug, you have done some incredible work here. Those voices are terrific - giving extra depth and resonance to the instrumentation. A great example of what happens when two creative souls are on the same wavelength, I would say. Very impressive. Kudos to you both. Peace.

Feter provides inspiring material, to be sure &mdash 03/27/08 - 11:43:37 PM
Thanks Diviner. I felt the same cinematic feel in the original which was touched by a sensitive treatment of something quite personal and yet at the same time larger than that.

Appreciate you stopping by,

Cheers,
Doug
