Description:
I had this song rolling around in my head for a long time, and have made I don't know how many versions of it. But I finally settled on this as the version I'd go ahead and post. This version was done on analog tape and brought over to the Mac and GB for mastering.

It's a song about the one you want that maybe you should be careful about. She can make you or break you big time.

Enjoy

Verse 1
Black Magic Lady, you cast your spell
A cold hearted woman, lordy I can tell
She's a hard lovin woman, and she can treat you right
She make love to you boy, all through the night

Chorus
She's a Black Magic Lady, you know she weaves a spell
Better treat her right boy, or she'll send your soul to hell
Black Magic Lady, Black Magic Lady,

Verse 2
Black Magic Lady, she was made to hold
she can set you on fire, or she can turn you cold
If you want her to love you, you better treat her right
Or she'll steal your soul away, and hide it in the night

Chorus
She's a Black Hearted Lady, ya know she weaves a spell
Oh Black magic, ya don't treat her right she'll send you to hell

Tag lines
Now Black Magic Lady, oh so fine
Black Magic lady, treat you so fine
Black Magic Lady I wish she were mine

I guess you could say that this old man is stuck in the 60's and 70's, cause that's where this song is. Glad you stopped in to listen Feter and enjoyed this blast from the past. Thank you again for the kind words my friend.
Be well,

Great song Ed &mdash 02/09/08 - 03:23:49 PM
This is a great song Ed and such a good sound with all that perfect clarity of instruments and your vocal. Good lyrics too and you describe my ex-wife perfectly LOL. A different sound for you this, but I really enjoyed it and your choice of instruments etc. Regards M

Thanks Maurice &mdash 02/09/08 - 05:52:43 PM
Yeah, on that ex-wife, I think I may have met her once. As a matter of fact, that's where the song came from. Just thought you should know. LOL
Anyway, glad you like this old song of mine and took the time to let me know. Thank you again for the kind words Maurice, they are greatly appreciated. Having to do with the fact that this isn't my usual sound, it's actually is more like what I played most of my live performance years. It's only in later years that I started doing the Country thing.

Take care my friend, glad you came to the party.

Glad you came over for a listen Dave, and enjoyed the show. This one kind of takes me back to my playing days in the 60's and 70's with the style of song it is.

I really appreciate the kind words and encouragement. Keep on playing and putting out those great tracks Dave

It's nice to see you stop in for a listen and find something to liked here. As I've said, this is one of the oldest songs I did back in the late 80's and early 90's, and it was originally recorded on and all analog system. Bringing it over to Garage Band allowed me to bring it into the digital age and thicken up the mix in the mastering process. Made a big difference in the overall sound quality when you compare it to the old version.

Anyway, thank you Arend for taking time to comment and for you very kind words about this song. They are very much appreciated.

Right version.... &mdash 02/09/08 - 09:38:50 PM
no doubt about it. Ed, this is slo-motion dynamite.

You're doing everything right on this one. Great vocal... and nice band you got there backing you ;)

I am throwing kudos and calling for the encore!

cheers.

P.S. so many of us stuck in the sixties and seventies, eh?

Hey there Jack Good to see you &mdash 02/10/08 - 12:19:40 AM
Thanks for the Kudos on this old song of mine Jack, they are appreciated greatly. Funny thing is I wasn't going to post it at all because I've never been satisfied with it. But sometimes you just have to let it go and have other listen to it to get an objective opinion.

By the way, I think the reason we're all stuck in the 60's & 70's is because that's were the really great music came from. Everything since then has built been built on the backs of the musical legends from "Our" youth. And although there is some very good music being done today, it's more producer and less artist now than it was back then. What we did back then was raw and visceral compared to the highly polished stuff they crank out now. That may or may not be a good thing, as history will have to be the judge on it.

Thanks again for the Kudos Jack. Be well my friend and keep on puttin' out the trash ! lolol

What can I say, I have the voice that was. Was what is still to be determined, but there you have it.

I know that doesn't make any sense but it was fun to write. I appreciate you kind words Bill and your encouragement. It means a lot to me.

Be well my friend and keep those nimble fingers going please I like what they do to a set of guitar strings.

Really good groove Ed. I like this song's feeling very much as most of your production. Very well performed.

Thanks B &mdash 02/11/08 - 03:15:19 PM
I honestly believe there's a common thread among musicians here that should be researched. It seems every musician I have personally met has had this same experience and either knows of, or has been in love with, or both one of these very special young ladies.

That said, thanks for the kind words B, they are certainly appreciated. I've always liked where this song went, but I've never been satisfied with where I took it, if you know what I mean. I guess I finally decided to give up chasing this one all over the studio and post it as it is now.

It's nice to know that my fellow musicians like it as it is now. Be well my friend.

I really appreciate you dropping in and listening to this song. I did this song back when I was still playing on a fairly regular basis and my hands still worked pretty well. Now days I can't do the things I used to do so it's doubtful I could still play it like that.

Glad you liked the song, and thanks again for the kind words, they give me a lot of encouragement.

Glad you stopped in to have a listen to it. It's really a song I started in 1987 and just kept messing with until now. I've tried all kinds of different sounds and rhythm's on it over the years but I was never really satisfied with the way it came out.
I still think it could be better, and maybe one of these days I'll get it done right. But until then, this is the best I've ever done so far and it will have to do for now.
Thanks again for the kind words and comments Andreas, they are greatly appreciated. One can always use words of encouragement.

It's really kind of and old school rock song but it was fun to do. Glad you liked the way it came out. The keyboard part was fairly easy to do, but effective never the less.

Thanks again for the kind word Yeman, they are greatly apprciated my friend.

Ah, the dangerous lady. Just like a dragon... best to have them as friends, not enemies! Fun lyrics, good singing and playing. I like the emotion and conviction in your voice, tricky to do (I am learning as I try to sing for the first time myself!)

Thanks Eduard &mdash 03/08/08 - 12:16:16 AM
For dropping in and listening to this song about the "Lady". And you're right, it doesn't pay to cross her, the price is way too high.

Glad you enjoyed this one and I appreciate you taking time to comment. I've made probably 15 or 20 versions of this song over the years since I wrote it, and I've never been satisfied with the way it came out. But of all the ones I've done, this one seems to be the best, so far.

I may, at some time in the future, bring this one back for one more attempt, now that I've entered the digital recording world. I can't believe how long it took me to finally make the leap into digital recording, but I'm sure glad I did.

Take care my friend and thanks again for listening and the kind words about the conviction in my voice. I actually knew her in real life so I speak from experience.

Great Production/Performance &mdash 03/08/08 - 07:01:42 AM
Hi Ed

I like your country voice, guitar play and the way you 'wraped' all this up.

I know what you talking about have tried it with a black magic woman and she casts a spell on you. No doubt about it. So be careful.

Makes you think thats one of the reasons why I think this is good besides the way you have made it.

Take care.

I think that every male on the planet has at least one "Black Magic" woman in their past. That being the case, we all share a common bond. One of being ripped up and torn apart by this lovely and dangerous creature.

It's good to know that occasionally you get a song about where it needs to be, and comment like yours are the encouragement needed to keep wanting to strive to do this thing we call music.

Thanks again for you kind words Claus. Be well my friend.

Hi again Ed

Thanks for your feedback.

I just like to add that I was married to a black woman from Africa for 2 years. Took me a year to get over it (if you ever do...)

Anyhow your music is great.

Music is working with feelings and ... healing.

Early 70s &mdash 03/13/08 - 09:41:19 AM
...I'm driving aimlessly on an empty highway I don't know in a big car with a rumbling engine. It's sometime in the wee hours, and the radio is playing this rueful, warning of a song that came just a little too late. I can still feel the heat from the previous day in the night air, and maybe I'll stop at a truck stop somewhere for a cup of coffee. Maybe. Maybe not. I can still feel her, remember her, and the only thing filling that void is the road, the night air and this song on the radio.

Been so busy lately I've fallen way behind in my listenin', and look what I missed! I love this tune; the touches of organ add that "mysterious, dangerous woman" feel that slips along in the shadows of your guitars. Excellent ride.

And there can never be enough songs about mysterious, dangerous women.

I've lived and somehow not regretted. Thanks for the visual Rik, it works for me and the song.

Glad you decided to pull off the highway for a bit and refresh you mind. We sometimes get so wrapped up in what we're doing we forget to relax and just cruise for a while. Feels good to take a break though.

Thanks again Rik, glad you liked "The Lady" even if she broke your heart.

Be well my friend

Glad you liked the song, and were nice enough to send along some kind words about it Stacey. It's one of my oldest songs, in fact I started working on it in 1988 I think it was. Finally decided it was as done as it's ever gonna get, and posted it.

Sorry about that man, I didn't mean to confuse you, but you'll find that some of my stuff kind of defies genre placement. I guess that means that I'm the one who's confused.

Either way, I'm glad you like the song and were kind enough to send along a few kind words about it. Your comments are encouraging as they let me know I'm on the right track. (no pun intended, cause I'm actually on all the tracks)

Thanks again for the comments and kind words Chris, I really am happy you enjoyed the song.
