Description:
Summed up in a quote from my wife about 2 minutes ago as I was preparing to upload this: "What are you trying to do, drive me crazy?" Well, de gustibus non disputandum est is all I can say to that. It will be interesting to hear from some of you on this one. (A good headset might be the best option on this one.)

Lyrics:
nope

Hardware:
Roland RD-700 keyboard

Software:
bunco o' stuff I've plugged in...but no loops. (I can't figure that one out...not sure I want to.)

fantastic Paul. So well conceived and produced... in parts could easily be heard as a cacophony, (which in itself is beautiful in it's intensity) but which suddenly takes on the beauty of music describing the fluttering of the wings of fairies as they fly through the wild flowers. This is very cinematic and very clever writing and I love it, even though there's more to this than I can describe at this point, regards M

No need... &mdash 02/09/08 - 03:37:15 PM
... to use any loops! Your ability to be as spontaneous would be inhibited. This is wondrous and sparkling. I wish it were longer. But then, there are so many moments packed into this prelude, I'm not sure its necessary.

Yep. I've gone crazy. It works great over headphones. &mdash 02/09/08 - 04:17:40 PM
And again, I'm impressed with your breadth and depth, Paul.

Tentatively exploring &mdash 02/09/08 - 05:11:10 PM
It's as if a late Romantic Russian was toying with the sounds of the second Viennese School. I really like it%u2026 Let's have more !

Prelude! &mdash 02/09/08 - 08:40:18 PM
Smooth and beautiful. Nice work Paul. First time I've heard your work. I'll have to see what else there is.

And yes, I would love it to be extended.

intriguing &mdash 02/10/08 - 08:19:14 AM
So many things going on here, then it calms down and melts into peace. Like a cage full of butterflies let out during a Spring shower, and they're all flitting about, finding a place to rest. Then the sun comes out. Really cool piece, Paul. :-)

Well, you know... &mdash 02/10/08 - 08:38:21 PM
...Stravinsky was bombed when he debuted "Rite of Spring"...

...I think this is great...reminds me a bit of Prokofiev (one of my faves) with a lot of Paul F. Page in there (another of my faves)...

A nice mix &mdash 02/11/08 - 03:15:57 AM
of different styles, so I would call it your own. Not sure why your wife reaction was, "What are you trying to do, drive me crazy?" but believe me... it's not so different here... Just have a listen to my fugue.

What I do miss a little bit here though, is some structure. Don't get me wrong, I love it, it sounds beautiful. I'm a person of structure, maybe you could hear that already in my music and I always strive for that. What about making a longer piece out of it, bring in a contrasting part after this one and repeating this first again? Something like that...

still,
very nice work and nice to listen to.

Blimey Paul &mdash 02/11/08 - 04:57:54 AM
this is great and unexpected.

I love the way the discords threaten to resolve and just when you think they have then they're off on their own path again.

Impressive :-)

Cheers

Hi! my friend &mdash 02/11/08 - 03:15:50 PM
I can't think you need to use loops... That's me but sure it's fun with loops.... But I wish I could play like you that had been so cool.
You are amazing Bro.... I listen on my loudspeaker and it sound so good I've also D-load the song so I come to listen to it in my headphones later.

Take care of you and your wife

I've said it before and I'll say it again &mdash 02/12/08 - 10:32:02 AM
You can play beautiful music with the best of them, here is nice addition with the slight touch of avante garde.

What I really love about your compositions and seems to set you apart from so many of the pianist i've heard is you can go avante garde but you can mold beautiful melodies with out getting caught going to far out in left field weirdness. You maintain a nice touch of the sweetness of the mellow composers if you know what I mean.
It is great to hear a composer player like your self that maintains his style throughout all his music, but maintains high quality melodic content.

Truly one of the most exceptional pianist i've heard here.

Thanks for sharing

Hi Paul..... &mdash 02/14/08 - 01:26:52 PM
I'm arriving late at this party.

I was away from MJ's, then I came back and forgot to comment after I listened to the piece.

Someone likened it to Schoenberg and the Second Viennese School. I will take a rain check on that until I've listened to my Schoenberg, Berg and Webern piano music CD, and then I'll see what I make of your piece then.

I'll listen more carefully and then drop you a note. I am trying to learn more about the structure of music and how to arrange parts.

Take care.

Paul

The beauty always seems to come out in what ever style. Love the softness, delicate and articulate playing.

Prelude &mdash 03/05/08 - 04:19:55 AM
Awesome soundwork, full of fantasy. Light and airy, but deep and full of power, especially like here the piano part with its energy. Great composition, bravo!!

Thanks for sending me this... &mdash 05/20/08 - 11:03:47 PM
It is wonderful in so many ways. First of all... colouristic, almost Ravelian in the use of space and metre. I particularly like your treatment with the woodwinds and reeds fleshing out the piano lines. Of all your pieces, this one shows a predilection for modernity... but in controlled spoonfuls. The low reeds coming in off-rhythm about 3/4 through creates a great diversion. The Piano shows shades of Prokoviev/Scriabin at the beginning, moving into a lizstian frenzy before lulling the listener back. Very complex writing with some quite lovely counter melodies and rhythms. Fantastique!
