Description:
This is a piano piece I wrote a few years ago that I just subjected to the garageband treatment. I'd also just installed the symphony orchestra jam pack and was finding all the mallet choices. I considered renaming this song "I've Never Met a Mallet I Didn't Love" - but, well. As my tendancy is to do everything at once, I used all the mallets I could find. There you have it.

Charming and delightful...Bravo

Love it... great energy in this. An enjoyable tune, subjected to all manner of re-orchestrations. Great job with the ebb and flow of dynamics and orchestration here. The only nit pick I have is that since this is "symphonic", I was hoping to hear a richer spread in equalization... to my ears, you have all the right instruments, giving bass, midrange, and treble areas, but the recording itself seems slightly "claustrophobic", recorded in a closet kind of thing :-) Perhaps some magic fiddling with EQ knobs on some tracks to bring out more sparkle and rich bass timbre in different instruments, and possibly an overall slight boost to bass & treble on the overall master track would help "fatten" this up.
This is great fun, love this piece! Welcome to Macjams!

... for taking the time for this comment. If I had ANY idea how to do what you are suggesting, I would do it. Is there a master treble/bass adjustment? Any info on how to carry out your suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the welcome to MacJams. I'm off to listen to your music!

well, if *I* had any idea what I was talking about, I'd be of more help! :-)
This is where we help each other out... you'll have to play around and read up some more on GarageBand, there are a bunch of free tutorials out there if you get stuck too... but to get you started... you need to go to GB's "Track" menu, and "Show Master Track". A new track shows up at the bottom of the window... then on the same menu "Show Track Info", and in that window near the bottom, turn on the "Equalizer" or "Visual EQ" checkbox, then click on the little pencil icon off to the right of it (beside where it says "manual". Then you drag the bass up a little above zero, the mid-range a little below zero, and the treble a little above zero. This is sort of like turning on the old "loudness" control on our old stereos... boosting lows and highs.
You can do this equalization on different single tracks too, removing boominess from one instrument, and adding boominess for another, etc. These are the some of the intricacies of "mixing". Hope it helps... I am learning all this stuff myself too, a lot of it I learned by scouring the net and reading articles.

This is so full of joy and life. Really a wonderful composition, twists and turns in each phrase with a varied orchestration that takes me over hills and around turns.
Thanks for posting and welcome to MacJams!

love that galloping about 1/4 through. What a happy sound. Great interplay between the other instruments as well.
This is one of the best classical happy tunes I've heard hear. To me this is a great find. You have a lot of really good composing running through this gem of a tune.
Very impressive!
Quite a dang good compositions!!!!! Soooo much going on in this tune.

This is another enjoyable piece of music.
It's going to be exciting having you around. Some more great pieces of music to appreciate.
I would suggest doing what you do, to record your music and then revisit them when you have time, to maybe adjust things in them. That way you'll be able to record and arrange your music and let the technicalities and stuff come later.
Most people are here to add music and help, so get your feet wet and learn to swim later.
For the moment, most things are just fine.
Take care.

I am really enjoying listening to your music this evening.
It's all very inventive and interesting. I agree with Drak that adjusting each track is where you need to concentrate -- your musical ideas and sound choices are already excellent.
Keep experimenting with panning each track, so the sound is a bit more spread-out. Actually, it seemed more expansive towards the end.
The fade-out at the end was a little odd. I would recommend finishing this jaunty piece off with a last BANGING, punctuated chord!

Great.

This is a very visual piece to me. I can see it being used for a variety of scenes from a film.
Good instrumentation and chord progressions. Melody and rhythm reminds me of a reel, not a film reel, but an Irish reel.
Nicely done.

Sorry I only just caught up with you, but glad I did. This is excellent music and so charming..... so lively and a wonderful fun chase from a wonderful pianist. It puts me in mind for some reason of those period English films with Ladies riding side-saddle over hill and dale in some light comedy. The Orchestra parts are really a great addition, superb and really enjoyed this......regards M

Is this your playing... ?? you've got great chops... and composition skills too... is this just playing or have you also done editing or quantizing?
I'm very impressed
magnatone
Thanks Scott! I'm actually playing the piano, the rest is penciled in, and I mixed to the best of my limited ability
you commented on my music on the now half defunct icomp, so I looked you up and found you here. A nice sit I am attempting to join ( but having some trouble uploading music onto)
Any way this is a wonderful peice that reminds me a lot of Vince Giraldi. I hope that is taken as the compliment it is intended to be. Very energetic. God, I wish I had stuck with the fat lady as a kid and continued those awful piano lessons when I hear you play. But, of course , the fat lady would have had me playing like barry manilow so perhaps it was a good idea to stop. ANyway I really enjoyed this one.
Hopefullly Icomp will have the music on again soon but until then, Ill keep trying to upload music here.
Stunning work here. Excellent choice of sounds. This piece draw a big smile ... Very happy, very fine! Thanks a lot for sharing. KUDOS!

I'm finally getting some time to go through some of your prior works... Each one is simply amazing...
You put so much detail and depth into each piece. I'm continually awed by your work!
LunaTrick
Interesting composition and theoretically sound. I could hear this as a backing track to a documentary or something intelligent. I enjoyed it!

I'm with Flyinghorse. How fun it is to ride with you as you go malleting along.
(I've no idea what a mallet is, but if they are in this then, they are in good company.) So enthusiastic. You must get bored hearing how talented you are. I'm grateful for you.

my right foot is just tap tap tapping to this!
maybe a little bass would be all it needs to broaden and richen this....
nevertheless it's a very (agreeing w/ davevan) charming and delightful piece, 2 thumbs up from me, Karen!
Stellar! Uplifting, energetic --and yet transcendent! The sound is essentially perfect! Very disciplined and more than likely to remain a classic touchstone for years to come.
